  1. Give Donaldson his $110: $35, 30, 25, 20. Trade Larnach, Alcala and Jake Cave to the Marlins for Alcantara. 2020 payroll is ~$145 million. Line-up is stacked. Bullpen is solid. Rotation might look pretty good by July.
  2. That's a huge leap of faith. One guy has a full MLB season under his belt. The other has like ML innings. And Graterol is probably good for 100 innings this year at the most. They are not in direct competition for a rotation spot, IMO.
  3. Falvine and their "assigned values" have made a mess of this off-season. Have they not seen enough to admit this and adjust yet?
  4. Exactly. Doogie is saying he's enjoyed the Twins pitch and would like to face AL Central pitching. He will come here if we pay him, despite our frozen tundra and the modest plane ride from Backwater, FL.
  5. Pretty much saying he'd be a Twin if we offer the 4/$110. Atlanta is clearly not offering that. So who not do it? We can afford it this year and next year. Plenty of time to figure out 2022 and beyond. Passing over an extra $4-5 million/year is so foolish. If you think he's a good risk, do it. If you don't you shouldn't offer $90 million either.
  6. I'm guessing Falvey won't be doing Q&A at Twins Fest or the Caravan.
  7. As for moves from this point, I don't think there's much to do. I'd like to see them make a trade for Price if they can get the Red Sox to eat a significant chunk of 2021 and 2022. I'd like to see them sign an IF'er, but the prospects are getting snapped up. Either Ginnett (sp) from the Reds or Doz works for me. I know some don't like Arreaz at 3B, but I don't mind it. I don't think a bigger trade (Archer, Boyd, Gray etc.) is in the cards. We won't give up top 10 prospects and you're not getting any of them without one or more. I don't see any of those teams being that motivated to make a deal. That said, I don't think any of the above will happen. Outside of a minor league deal or two, I think what we have now is it.
  8. They can't go into details. But if they made top offers on one or more guys, they can certainly say that without disclosing who. Or they can leak it through Doogie, etc.
  9. I understand what you're saying and I disagree. It would seem the FO doesn't agree with you or they wouldn't make these offers and stay engaged on these players for days and weeks on end if they knew they had zero chance of signing them.
  10. I've read that (obviously he isn't signed yet). I've also read we offered 4/$90 and haven't budged. I'm not sure which is true, but I know which one is more likely based on history.
  11. I wouldn't hold my breath. Along with negotiating with FA's, clear communication does not appear to be Falvey's strength. Perhaps the issues are related. For example, letting Molitor find out Eddie Escobar was traded by watching MLB network. We've gotten "gee I wish I hadn't said "impact" pitching". I think that's as close to an explanation/apology as we're going to get.
  12. If, even once, the Twins tested your theory and offered him $10 million more than the next team, you'd have a point. Instead they offer $4/80 when the top offer is 4/$100 and you tell us we could never sign him anyway, so it's OK if they don't raise their offer. Why are they wasting their time then? Why stay "in" on him for weeks on end? Why offer Wheeler $100 million? Why engage on Ryu at all?
  13. FWIW, Iglesias and Thames have come off the board today, so the plan D options are also dwindling fast.
  14. In the case of the Twins, there's no one else to bring up, because we've signed no FA's to long contracts in years. That doesn't change the fact that MadBaum is the only one known to have left $$ on the table this off-season. The Twins didn't make the top bid for anyone and get turned down for other reasons. Period.
  15. That's not comforting. It's quite aggravating. It only reiterates that indeed there is a huge window open now. Both in the AL Central and the AL overall. Yes, we would still be underdogs to the Yankees, even with another starter. But let's give ourselves a fighting chance to avoid them in the 1st round and at least have a shot if we do face them.
  16. There's no silver lining to the Pohlad's pocketing $30 million we should have spent on the 2020 payroll. Will they add it to the 2021 payroll? No. Certainly not $ for $. This is pretty desperate spin.
  17. Both Cruz and Lynn have earned tens of millions of dollars in their careers. Why come here to our frozen tundra when they could have gone elsewhere for only a couple million less? Why not go to Houston where it's warm and there's a better shot at a WS? Not a single player has turned down an extra $10-20 million. Certainly not from the Twins. But not from anyone else either. MadBaum's the only one who turned down more $, and it wasn't from us.
  18. Ah yes. 2023. When Rosario, Buxton, Sano and Berrios won't be here anymore. That's the year to shoot for! Thank God Terry Ryan was at the winter meetings with Falvine to drive this point home to them.
  19. Give them Rosario and Larnach instead of Kepler and I'd do it.
  20. Who said we should sign all 5? Now you're just making things up. We have a payroll of $110 million. We should have a payroll of $140-150 million. We desperately need one more top-end starting pitcher. All any of us asked is that we sign ONE of them. Signing Donaldson doesn't address the issue, but would make our offense lethal and perhaps make us more willing to make a trade for one. As it is the Twins are going to pocket the $30 million they said they would spend on impact pitching and do nothing. That benefits no one who's not a Pohlad heir.
  21. Why did Nelson Cruz sign here? He could have taken a couple million less and gone to Houston? Why did Gonzalez? Why did Lance Lynn? All of them signed here because we made the best offer. MOST of the time, FA's will go where the best offer is. Occasionally there is an exception. You're claiming the exception applies in every case when we have not made the best offer to ANY of the top FA's this off-season. Yes, I believe all things equal, Donaldson wants to stay in Atlanta. He's also played for a lot of teams, and if we top Atlanta's offer by $10-15 million in total, he'll be a Twin. But we won't. And maybe we shouldn't. But the same cannot be said for Ryu, Kuechel, etc.
  22. Yes. And I'm shocked he was willing to come here and put his family through the hell that is MN.
  23. At this point, I'd be happy with trading for Price, eating $25/15/15 of his contract and signing a 2B (Gennett or Doz) and moving Arreaz to 3B. It doesn't improve the D that much, but it's better than using Gonzalez at 3B. Especially when he'll be needed in the OF once Buxton gets hurt.
  24. What SS's are available though? Iglesias doesn't excite me.
  25. First, the narrative was he wouldn't leave the west coast. Then he goes to Toronto and you're telling us this spin job. He went where he got the most money. What would it have taken? A better offer than Toronto, which we never made. There is no evidence we were the highest bidder on any FA we missed on and got turned down because they didn't want to play in MN. If our offers are less, of course no one will sign here. And if they're equal they probably won't either. If you want to play in FA, you have to overpay.
