  1. With regards to the late (and sometimes great) musical artist Meatloaf.
  2. Due in large part to a ton of poor quality at-bats and a general lack of clutch hitting. When have we seen and heard that before, especially this season?
  3. Supposedly, the strike box that home plate umpires are rated on each game is slightly larger than the strike box that is superimposed on the televised games. Exactly how much, I'm not sure, but it's definitely the case (or so I've heard).
  4. UGH! Not the least bit surprised by this assessment of the game.
  5. While I didn't expect the hitting approach to change overnight, even after the team meeting in Atlanta, I was expecting to notice some incremental improvements. Thus far, outside of Friday, I have not gotten the sense that much of anything of significance has changed. I didn't sense it yesterday and maybe someone who actually watched the game today can comment on that point. If we’re still seeing the same garbage after a home series against KC, then, in my mind, it might be nearly time to take a very hard look at how this team is constructed and managed on a day to day basis. As a long time fan, I hate even thinking this and being this pessimistic, but it's becoming increasingly clear to me that all is not well here and some significant change is needed here or we're just going to keep spinning our wheels here.
  6. Plus better quality depth, at least on paper, should help.
  7. While I fully agree with all that's been said here thus far and sympathize with those being affected, being an "out of market" viewer appears to insulate me from many of the concerns raised here, for the 2023 season, at least. I switched off the MLB Extra Innings on DirecTV package beginning this year in favor streaming on MLB.com. Still affected by the archaic blackout rules, but that part (supposedly) won't change at all under the streaming package I purchased. I also fully agree that the outdated manner in which MLB sees that its team's games are broadcast needs to change significantly. However, I don't have a good solution to offer regarding the most efficient and practical way to deal with it.
  8. Sure gives that appearance. May be that some of the COVID-19 related "complications" that were beyond our ability to control, plus some unfortunate injuries, may have blurred our view on the potential incoming pitching pipeline.
  9. Good point. I had forgotten about that. Hope that hire begins paying positive dividends sooner rather than later.
  10. I believe that another necessary thing to address would be overall hitting approach (and discipline) at the plate. In recent seasons, it appeared to this relatively untrained eye that plate discipline and an ability to produce "quality" outs was sorely lacking far more often than not. A lot of times, that hurt us immensely. How to best correcting it in a productive and sustainable manner is something is something I'm not qualified to answer. However, the acquisition of a high quality hitting coach who preaches that philosophy would be a start. I know some of us out here have stated they'd like to see a return of James Rowson to that role. I don't know if that's doable from a contractual standpoint, but there must be someone else out there with a similar pedigree we could get. Now to identify him and get him here. Go Twins 2023!
  11. Based on what verifiable evidence? Or is this just an example of very sour grapes coming through?
  12. I couldn't agree more with Doc's comments. I've lived well away from Minnesota since the season of our 1st WS win in 1987 and about all I ever hear about the Pohlad family originates on this site and other Minnesota-centric sources, same as Doc. And I take many of those comments and opinions with a grain (or two) of salt. I've personally never really had any significant issues with how the Pohlads have run the franchise since they bought it from the Griffith family. I know that there are some out there with a dim view of their ownership. They're definitely entitled to there own opinions but I, for one, have never seen or heard verifiable corroborating evidence that supports some of their opinions. Maybe elevating Joe will help elevate the appeal of the team to a younger fan base and maybe some of the more cynical of the older fan base, too. However, only time will tell there. I'm anxious to see how this all plays out.
  13. I would hope to also see greater organizational depth (and skill) throughout the system. While it's clear that injuries were a clear problem this season, what was most telling to me was that it often appeared as though many of "next man up" types were clearly not up to the challenge for any significant stretch of games. In my mind, that also clearly needs to change rather significantly for the better if we want to take major steps forward in the near future.
  14. Can't help but feel good for the young man. I just hope that not many of us jump to hasty conclusions on him or the organization based solely on how this start goes. That would be so unfair at so many levels.
  15. Because this year is quickly turning into a dud.
  16. I fully concur with your assessment.
  17. Problem is we'd likely need a lot more than that to have anything resembling a decent shot at the World Series this season.
  18. Nice thought, but realistically is probably nothing more than wishful thinking.
  19. Situational hitting has been a team-wide problem for more than a few seasons now. We can clearly score runs knocking the ball out of the yard, but driving in runners in some other manner is highly problematic and their usual inability to do so is highly frustrating for us fans. While pitching in general, and the bullpen specifically, is IMHO still the team's biggest concern, I believe that somehow addressing that weakness needs to be done. However, how to accomplish that is up for debate and is something I don't have a good feeling for right now.
  20. Between their regular 1st round pick and the compensatory pick after the 1st round, I'd like to see at least one pitcher drafted. College or highly rated prep arm doesn't really matter to me, as long as it's someone that can be reasonably projected out as a starter.
