  1. I would never boo a member of my family for a mistake, lack of success or failure. I really do come to care for these Twins players and I want them to succeed. But they, like we, are human and they, like we, don't always succeed. However they are in a public arena, closely analyzed and viewed "in hindsight" and we are not. That is tough. I know baseball is not life or death, like some of our military and law enforcement personnel experience, but most of us do not enjoy being criticized in crude, emotional ways. Your article was excellent Melissa. Thank you for writing it. It makes me re-think some of my critical posts here on TD.
  2. Find the player who gives the best results on offense and on defense and play him at 3B. As of today, it is MIranda. When Farmer is activated, it will probably be Farmer. When Lewis is promoted, it will probably be Lewis. We shall see.
  3. I was wrong to protest so long and loud the trade of Petty for Gray. I had seen Petty pitch some in spring training before the trade, and I was very impressed. I hated to see him traded. But I have been shown the wisdom of this trade, every time I watch Gray pitch. Thank you FO.
  4. Please give some credit to the FO for not re-signing Sanchez to catch another season and for signing Vasquez. Vasquez is a difference maker for the pitching staff. If you doubt this, read yesterday's article by Ken Rosenthal, about the Cardinals mistake in signing Wilson Conteras. It was a monumental mistake according to Rosenthal because Conteras cannot call pitches or handle a pitching staff. Rosenthal writes that the Cardinals should have traded for Murphy, a former gold glove catcher or signed Vasquez, instead of signing Conteras, who has now been moved by the Cardinals from catcher to DH, not due to any injuries, but due to his inability to handle a pitching staff.
  5. Even without pitch framing, catchers are much more than "blockers playing catch". Most pitch selection is done by catchers. I contend that is vital to a pitcher's success.
  6. Pitching is the key to success. Pitchers have more to do with the outcome of the game than any other position. Catchers can help pitchers more than any other position. Good defense also helps pitching. It is important that the Twins get the 5th draft pick correct this year. I wish there were a really dominant pitcher in this year's draft in addition to Skenes, who will be drafted before the 5th pick, I'm afraid.
  7. I guess I was referring to steady good play of Lee due to the fact he was the only top 20 prospect who hit .300 (.319), with only 3 k's, no errors, 2 doubles. It was the best hitting and fielding week for a top 20 Twins' prospect last week and he played at a premium position (SS). But I did say "he keeps on rolling along", which you are correct, implies that I took into account all of this young season, which, as you pointed out in your reply, for Lee has been "nothing too exciting". Seth, I hope you know how much we at TD appreciate your valuable input, especially as it relates to the Twins' minor leaguers. I would venture to say that outside of the Twins' paid organization, you may be the most knowledgeable person in the whole world in the area of Twin's prospects. I really enjoy your writing and your interviews. Thank you.
  8. Brooks Lee is like the mighty Mississippi River, he just keeps rolling along.
  9. I agree about Fenway. While I understand the historical significance of Fenway, the uneven concrete walkways were dangerous. It was not friendly to elderly and persons who have difficulty walking and climbing stairs.
  10. Nice article. I am so jealous of these road trips. Sounds like lots of fun.
  11. The Twins could always trade 35 year old Donnie Solano and keep Gordon.
  12. Michael A. Taylor is a baseball player. I really have enjoyed having him on the Twins this year.
  13. I hope we do face them later...because that will mean we'll be in the playoffs.
  14. I have been favorably impressed with Gallo's play at 1B. Last night he had two great picks and you have to admit, his stretch at 1B is impressive due to his size and flexibility. The man is big and athletic.
  15. Sounds like a great time. I need to move from North Carolina so I can participate in these special TD events. You Minnesota residents are having a lot of fun. I look forward to the pictures and reports from the attendees.
  16. Your article is quite prophetic when we look at Polo's performance in tonight's game against the Evil Empire.
  17. Seth, I understand giving Maeda 10 more starts and see how he does, and there is much wisdom in that approach. But I believe there is possibly a better way to handle this situation. This is why. Last 2022 season and this 2023 spring training and this early 2023 season, Ober has pitched well enough to be one of the Twins starting pitchers. That is not the issue. The question is 2 part: 1) Can Maeda can pitch better than Ober as a starter. Or 2) whether having Maeda in the bullpen would improve the bullpen. Who would you rather see coming in from the bullpen twice a week for 3-4 innings, Maeda, Headrick, SWR or Sands? Remember, if Maeda remains a starter, Ober is not going to the bullpen. Ober will remain at AAA as the first call-up when a starter is out due to injury or lack of performance. By moving Maeda to the bullpen, we either improve the starting pitching or at the very least, it stays the same with Ober starting instead of Maeda. But by moving Maeda to the bullpen, there is the very real potential to vastly improve the bullpen and by doing so, improve the Twins chances of winning more games.
  18. To answer your question of where does Larnach play, after carefully considering all the options spelled out in this worrisome, intelligent, well written article and the comments which followed, I vote for St Paul.
  19. At the time the Twins acquired "the bringer of rain", I also posted several times about Donaldson's frequent leg problems, which I contended were due to his being a catcher in the minor leagues and a catcher when he was beginning his career in the majors. The article mentions that Donaldson is currently out again with ... leg problems.
