  1. This core of the Twins farm system looks really good to me. However, the Twins farm system is only rated 22nd by Bleacher Reports, and the Twins are not mentioned in the Jonathan Mayo survey of the MLB executives ranking of the top farm systems from 6 days ago. I'll report back after my annual March trip to Ft. Myers. Hope to see some of you TD writers and readers there.
  2. Keep both Lee and Julien. They both can be useful, productive 2B, 1B, 3B (Lee, not Julien at 3B). Kirilloff is questionable at 1B due to injuries. Polo is worth every penny of his contract. But if the right offer comes along for Polo, take it. Stretch out the most promising AAA prospect pitchers. Keep juggling the AAA pitchers in the 5th /6th rotation spot until one (Varland, Raya, Caterino, Lewis, Festa) proves himself superior to the other 4 and then use that one as 5th SP while the others continue to improve at AAA. And hope no one gets injured.
  3. Oh good grief. I didn't know that. Thanks.
  4. Send these stats to all the HOF voters who have not voted yet. Great article Cody. Thank you.
  5. Since the Twins had the easiest schedule of any team the second half of the 2023 season and one of the most difficult schedules during the first half of the 2023 season, possibly Kep was doing better against weaker opponents, as did the majority of the Twins team.
  6. I wrote him and got an autographed picture back when he was playing. Several years later, out of the blue, I received a Christmas card from him. That was nice of him.
  7. The Twins have created quite the conundrum for 2024. How to get a playoff, quality starting pitcher. without paying big money for a FA and without trading any "fan favorites"? Friends, it can't be done in 2024. The logical choice for us fans, who wrongly assume that the owners "just want to win games" and "who do not care about the profit margins", is to sign a FA stud pitcher and hope he is not a flop. Or don't trade away the promising starting pitchers they do have. The Twins previously had the #2/3 SP they needed in Jose Berrios. Let's look back at the Jose Berrios trade for just a minute. Berrios would have been a perfect fit for 2023 and 2024 and beyond. Instead, the Twins have Austin Martin and SWR. Turns out that was a very bad trade for the Twins. Sonny Gray, Pablo Lopez and Jose Berrios would have been quite impressive as the first three starting pitchers for the Twins this past year. And for 2024 the starting duo of Lopez and Berrios would have been awesome. Sometimes the best trade, is no trade at all.
  8. I wonder how much weight is being placed on a prospect's mental make-up and attitude? I believe there is a correlation in attitude and being successful in one's goals. However, if I recall my mental make-up, as an 18 to 22 year old , it was nothing to be proud of. Sure, I graduated from college during those 4 years, but I did just enough to get by. I finally grew up in the US Army, 1967 - 1969. It was there I learned to be more than "just good enough".
  9. I bet it is hard to program your brain differently for what to swing at in a 2 strike count,
  10. How soon we forget "La Tortuga".
  11. Mark Davidson, from Statesville, NC was called "Country".
  12. I wonder what Zack Bove told the Royals FO before Staumont was DFA'ed? I wonder if the Twins FO checked with Bove, or would that have been unethical to even inquire Bove's opinion. If I were Bove, I would not feel comfortable discussing Staumont with the Twins FO. That is not Bove's job now. His loyalty is to the Royals.
  13. I I were Kep's agent, I would argue that he should not take a chance on changing his position during the last year of his contract. It that experiment didn't work out, Kep may have cost himself millions of dollars as a free agent. He has repeatedly graded out extremely well as a defensive right fielder, and while CF is a more valuable position, I don't see Kep being as good defensively in CF as he is in RF. Plus it may be difficult for Kep to adjust to a new position, which he has said he did not want to play, which may affect his hitting, causing him to have to take a midseason, ALL-Star week vacation in the European alps again to forget baseball for a while.
  14. Of all the in house choices, I like Castro best. I don't think he has hit his peak.
  15. I don't know if Kep has always been a "team player",
  16. I agree 100%. Catching development has been overlooked by this FO. I would love for someone who has access to interview Falvine, to ask if they would agree, and if so, why has it not been emphasized more? Catchers may be more prone to injuries, but that is all the more reason to hire the best catching development coach possible, and pay him well with a long term contract, so he won't defect to the Yankees after a year with the Twins.
  17. The above is an important 3rd question that the Twins do not have an answer for. By moving Kep to CF, and playing an unproven Larnarch in LF, the Twins may be lessening all 3 OF positions defensively and offensively.
  18. Nick, Here in North Carolina, it is a cold, gray, rainy day after all the Christmas excitement and I have a cough and a cold. My kids and grandkids are leaving early, to go to their homes so they won't get sick. Then I read your realistic article about the probable regression of Julien, Lewis and Wallner...and now I feel even worse. Happy New Year.
  19. I agree that last year's Twins pitching staff was one of the best, if not the best, I have ever had the pleasure of watching pitch. And that really was my point in my argument of disagreeing with the premise in the article that hitters' strikeouts are less important than hitters making weak contact. Both are bad. My guess is that a team should strive to minimize hitters striking out so much and try to get more runners on base and advance runners by any means, including sometimes the weak contact bunt and the weak contact of hitting behind the runner to advance the runner. Not exclusively, but more than I have seen from the Twins of late. The importance of hitting according to the situation, is not emphasized by the Twins hitters and manager, as much as I would like.
  20. No wonder I did not recognize him. I defaced and traded most of my NY Yankee cards. It wasn't until I could learn to read that I learned their real name was not "Damn Yankees".
  21. A really good point. Hitters like Julien and Arraez have better abilities as they are batting, to judge a strike or a ball than do many umps, according to the little strike zone boxes on my tv.
