  1. This is great news for me, since I hate strikeouts when the Twins are batting. Because of this and Santana's good fielding at 1B, and Buck, C4 and Lewis being healthy and Julien having more experience at 2B...I am looking forward to better defense and offense from the Twins. More runs scored by the Twins and less runs allowed. Oops, I forgot about losing Sonny Gray and Maeda and (I never thought I'd say this)...Pagan. The Twins main off-season need was a #1 or #2 starting pitcher. I think the stronger bullpen is great, but will this be enough to make up for the loss of Gray and Maeda? That is the big question for me going into 2024.
  2. I appreciate Mr. Pohlad's service to our country in WWII in an infantry unit. 3 purple hearts says it all for me.
  3. I am a big Severino fan. I wish him well this year. It is an important year for him. He must convince the Twins that the Twins need him on their 26 man roster this year or next year, at the latest. That will be difficult with Lee and Martin knocking on the 26 man roster door also.
  4. Good point Doc. Thanks.
  5. Are you referring to Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin? Austin Martin can't hit homeruns and he has not played one game in the major leagues yet. See Doc, I did not agree with you about Martin, but that does not mean I won't respect you in the morning. Keep on writing Doc. You are one of my favorite writers.
  6. I hope you are right JD...but I have my doubts.
  7. Doc, Don't go. It is almost spring and hope springs eternal. Right now the Twins are tied for first place. You made some good points, but I did not agree with everything you wrote. Sorta like voting for a politician...I don't agree with everything any politician says or does, but just have to pick the one who makes the most sense to me. You are one of the posters who has made the most sense to me through the years. I look forward to your continued posts.
  8. Plus the Twins would still have the minor league Gold Glove SS to trade for a pitcher.
  9. As Will Rogers said: "All I know is what I read in the newspapers." In my opinion, the Twins FO is not going to sign Hernandez. This is an example of possibly the Twins called the agent involved in October to inquire, but nothing was done, an the agent is using this as leverage to motivate some other team's FO to sign Kiki. I think this sort of thing goes on a lot more than we realize.
  10. John, Why did you mention Niko Goodrum in your article?
  11. I wish C4 nothing but the best. The left side of the Twins IF has enough positive energy to make Norman Vincent Peale proud. ( For you younger fans, Norman Vincent Peale wrote "The Power of Positive Thinking"...a magnificent book.)
  12. Dave St. Peter sure did crawfish on his answer to a good, legitimate question asked by Aaron.
  13. Don't knock a good bar fight. The best "bar" fight I was ever in was while I was serving in the Army in Korea. My infantry company, C Company, got into a fight with B Company at the NCO club about 2 miles south of the DMZ.. It was involved 30 drunk 19-22 year old soldiers, knocking over chairs and tables, wrestling and punching in the beer and hamburgers and blood on the concrete floor with no bottles being used as weapons and few punches actually landing. The MP's came and separated our two companies and the MP's only arrested Sgt. Jones from B Company and no one from my company was arrested. As the MP's were taking the handcuffed, bleeding, B Company sergeant out of the NCO Club, I yelled loudly, "Goodnight Sgt. Jones !" And the fight broke out again. It was the most fun I had in my 16 months in Korea.
  14. One of our intrepid TD owners/reporters needs to specifically ask Joe Pohlad and also Dave St. Peter this 50%-52% payroll question. I'd ask the question if I had access to either of these fine gentlemen. Inquiring minds want to know.
  15. Good article Lou. I live about 50 miles from Mt. Airy, North Carolina (the basis for the fictional Mayberry), I hope Sheriff Paddock produces a Sheriff Andy Taylor season, and not a season like Deputy Barney Fife.
  16. It is a shame we (I) get so worked up over the lack of off season acquisitions, when we (I) really don't have enough facts regarding why the FO does what it does. I wish he Twins FO could convince me that it was being completely transparent, however sometimes rumors and quotes and interviews are used as negotiation tactics to try to get closer to a figure, or a trade, which both sides can agree on. Puffery comes into play also. It is a fine line between what is acceptable puffery and what is not acceptable puffery and what are just downright lies. We've all done it. When we tell an auto salesman we can't go that high, but we really will, or we decline an insurance settlement offer and say we can't take less than X amount to settle, when we really will. It is called the art of negotiation.
  17. I think it may be that the Twins have signed Clay Bellinger for added insurance in the bullpen.
  18. Good summary. The Twins BP is loaded. The Twins BP is a likely source of trade bait, like the Twins 2B was, although the Twins traded the older, injury prone 2B (Polo) and I doubt that other teams want "older, injury-prone" relief pitchers.
  19. The difference that I am counting on is healthy seasons from C-4, Buck and Royce Lewis. That is a big "?". They pitching has lost the most. I hope the pitchers bond together like they appeared to do last year.
  20. Don't forget "Willi" (Castro) you be my Valentine. You have put your legal training to good use with your clever puns.
  21. I'm Gladden you are my Valentine, because I can't (TC) bear/bare to be away since you Rocco my world, so I ask, "Willi you be my Valentine?"
  22. Outstanding series of articles. Terrific information. Lots of hard work involved in creating these articles. My only concern about the Twins' farm system is that the Twins need more top quality pitchers in the pipeline. Thank you.
  23. What a great problem to have. In years past, I remember articles like this about who will play SS. Also, for too many years, after Mauer stopped catching, we Twins' fans were asking: "Who will catch?" The FO has done a good job of building a good team which only has a few questions about the roster. If the second or third (after the 5th starting pitcher and the left fielder) most questionable roster spot is the 8th reliever, the FO must be doing something right.
