  1. how is it hard to find in the results? We know exactly how he has "contributed" on offense, and it holds negative value. Nothing about the TEAM won loss record says anything about their relative value, unless you think LAA having a losing season says Trout isn't as good as Kepler last year....
  2. I don't think anyone disagree with the fact they'll be better in 19 with Gibson than a minor league player.....I think some disagree they'll be competitive next year....I'm firmly on the fence, since I don't know their plans.
  3. catcher wins? Is that really a thing? I mean, the Twins went to the playoffs with Jason Tyner at DH.....doesn't mean they couldn't have done better. The Astros have a few holes, doesn't mean those bad players are good players, just because they are on a winning team.
  4. Garver dropping a pitch right down the middle costs the Twins what, compared to Wilson not hitting at all? That's the math.....and, yes, I don't get to see the games.....but I can't imagine Wilson is that much better at defense......I can't imagine anyone is at catcher, to make up the offensive difference.
  5. How about Gibson and Pressley and a random minor leaguer to ATL for Austin Riley and one of their AA pitchers (Toussant or Wright). Sano moves to 1B next year, Riley is your 3B, and Toussant/Wright is a starter by mid year in MN.
  6. After reading an Athletic article glowing about Rosario.....and his base running....I had doubts. but, man, of the qualified hitters on FG's leaderboard, he is third overall on their baserunning rankings..... huh. Kind of the "halo" effect in reverse, where it is so easy to remember the bad plays, I guess. Good on him. Actually, other than 2017, he's been VERY GOOD on the basepaths.
  7. Ya, unless he takes a discount, IMO, you have to go year to year if you keep him. Pitchers get hurt at this age..... If I'm him, I turn down the QO if healthy and still a number 2 or 3.....because someone will give him 4-6 years and a lot of money at that point.
  8. ' As you know, I've been arguing to pick a path..... either add MLB talent, or add more high ceiling minor league players.... But don't ride the middle. So, sure, I'm happy to trade for Realmuto or a legit OF/DH/1B type.....but if they don't bring in outside talent, they are not, imo, good enough to compete with NYY, BOS, Houston, a fully healthy LAA, and probably not CLE either. So, pick a path. And, yes, you kind of have to pick it now......because keeping Gibson is picking that path (somewhat....as his value will be less in the off season). So, great, I agree, if you are going to compete, then trade for some players now or in the off season. But, pick a path.
  9. Except I never said gut your team every year.......no place. And not on this thread. I'm happy to have a debate, but let's debate what is actually typed. If they keep him, they need to find: 1B, DH, 2B, C, and probably 2-4 RPs. If their plan is to spend the money and prospects to fill in the holes, then keep him (as I said in the quote you quoted - it is about if you are going to compete next year or not realistically).
  10. Funny, I was kidding when I typed "free Kiriloff".....but looking at Soto and some others, maybe he should move up.
  11. By that logic, you never trade for prospects ever. Good luck building a team.
  12. Because he's signed for one more year. It really depends on if you think they are contenders next year or not.
  13. I have the conversation with myself often.....welcome to the club.
  14. Is he wearing down, or is AAA just harder? Or both?* *yes is an acceptable answer, though I'd like more.....
  15. I have not read one word of the thread, I just wanted to type how much I love the title. Now, I'll go read the thread.
  16. Expansion of rosters? No doubt, good point. universal DH? yup, that too. world wide draft? Agreed, though that will be very bad for Central American players.
  17. A great CEO is key for disrupters and smaller/newer companies especially. But, being the public face is different than that..... Clearly it is increases the risk some, but I don't know if Papa John's is being hurt or not with their CEO leaving. Musk leaving? Won't likely be good for Tesla......OTOH, while Apple is a different place now that Jobs is gone, it's still running ....
  18. I put a quote about Rooker in my new thread in the MN Twins part of the forum.......you may or may not want to read it....
  19. Interesting comment on the heat.......the globe is warming, so starting later and going only 7 innings might be a thing.....I had not thought of that at all. I agree expansion and 154 games are almost inevitable. Living in Portland, I just don't see how it will work, given the size of the corporate world here, but I do think it will come here. Tampa will lose its franchise, and Portland, Charlotte, and Montreal will get teams.
  20. I sold it off after the big bump recently. It isn't my style stock, really. But yes, if they drop enough, they can be a good short term play (or boring, dividend, play). shopify....new relic....nvidia.....okta.....activision....not that I'm offering advice, I'm just listing random (ha) stocks....
