  1. The Dodgers show, imo, one of the issues with "efficiency"..... Sure, they have more / better prospects since they didn't trade for Dozier, and spent less, but to what end, exactly? What could have been last year, or how would this year already be different, if they had acquired Dozier instead. IMO, it shows how efficiency should not be THE measure of every decision for a MLB team. It's not like they are short of resources....but they are of 2B.
  2. Have you looked at the FA list for 1B and SP? Good luck with that. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/12/2018-19-mlb-free-agents.html
  3. money sure, but people here all the time say no to players that age....that's why I'm asking the question. I would....not sure everyone would be.
  4. ramos is 30 and Grandal 29.... Are people good giving three year deals to catchers over 30 at the beginning of the contract, at 10-20MM per year?
  5. only worrying about the future is a good way not to ever have a present, also. I don't think anyone is saying sell the whole farm. I don't think anyone is saying sign every FA, or trade for a guy that is only here this year. I'd guess that once they "know" if Buxton and Sano are good, no 2.5 year elite player will be available in the time that they "know" that. So, you are then trading real assets for half a year, most likely, and we'll get to read about how that's a terrible idea. Which I know, because I've read that here over and over.
  6. They've shown no desire to add elite position players in FA or trades either....so I'm not sure how that matters. I'll ask again, where do people expect this team to get A LOT better in the next two years if you won't trade for players?
  7. As a reminder, the FGs guys like Jeffers a lot more than some others did, and had him 77th overall. They also had Sands 78th overall. If FG is right, using those picks that way was impressive.
  8. You and I have talked about him from the beginning! So yes, I was. Thanks, as always, for your awesome work, sir.
  9. It went down for "meh" players....but there is no evidence it is down for good players. Having money, and winning bidding wars is very different. They spent a lot, but NONE of it was in the bidding war zone at all, which is maybe why they are "meh" for the most part.
  10. Certainly reasonable options. Given position scarcity, they'll cost around 15-20MM per year....ready to pay that?
  11. Btw, Lewis won't be in Minnesota until 2021... He's in low A ball. By that time, most of this core is one year from free agency, give or take. I don't think it's the same window ...
  12. If trading two great prospects makes the farm barren, then this team has no pipeline. No one is saying they are one player away either, so let's not put words in people's mouths. There is room to trade for this guy, and buy some free agents. For those that say no to a catcher.... Where do you propose spending assets to get better? Not the outfield.... Probably not first, or third, depending on how you feel about Sano. Short and second and DH? Name the guys you like more than the best catcher in the game. Not a good player, an elite player. The guys that are available and they will have a shot at. Maybe you think Ramos is a better answer. Of course, they'll have to win the bidding there too. That's possible, but he's not a difference maker. Oh, and when not catching, Realmuto could DH....
  13. Seems like trading for this guy might be a good idea, but I haven't given it much thought....
  14. Joe Mauer is either a HoF or very close....but he's not going to help this team win ball games next year. IMO. If you sort on offense and first baseman....it's not pretty on the leaderboards for this team. Also odd: Astudillio (sp?) has not caught one time. The reports from the internet say he has an average glove back there. Given the state of catching in this org, I don't understand why he hasn't caught. Heck, he's barely played the last few days, despite, so far, showing he might be a hitter. Maybe he can play first next year, while we wait for Rooker or give Sano more time at 3rd? I expect Lynn to be traded, and maybe Escobar and Rodney. That's about it, I'd guess.
  15. Raising the question....what is the plan? I think it is showing Lynn and Odo for trade..... As for "working on things", he can do that in the majors....though maybe psychologically that is hard.
  16. They barely made the playoffs last year... With ESan and Dozier and Mauer playing very well....I think we'll just disagree on this.
  17. It's a minor move if he doesn't block Wade.... Another LH? Don't got it at all
  18. What if the guys before them are great? I mean, that's basically your argument to some extent.... At this point, they are all major question marks, and pretty much rated the same. It hurts this team a lot how bad, so far, these two high picks have been. If Gordon washes out, that's potentially a very bad streak of number one picks.
  19. Glad they are giving Cave a shot as some here wanted. Now let's hope they give us Garver people, who are really mostly people that think he can maybe be decent someday, what we want too. And wow, Baltimore is bad.
  20. there is an extra not in there.....which should be a "more"....sigh. I think he accepts the QO, and I'd hate to pay him 17MM next year.
  21. I don't agree with all of this, but it is very well written! And I understand the feelings well.
