  1. So, you are planning to punt on another year of Sano and Buxton? If so, which might be realistic, shouldn't they be trading Pineda and Gibson right now?
  2. The issue isn't that, it's that if they keep him until spring training, they spent 5MM on him. And not someone else (or putting more money on a better player). Whether they spend the money eventually or not, they spent some of their FA money. It is, of course, possible he is cut before spring, and they use the money on someone else (they'd be on the hook for around 500K). But, realistically, do we think that's the plan?
  3. I'll try to explain my thoughts. 1. That is 10-15% of the FA budget. That's not an insignificant number. 2. They can cut him during the time they are signing FAs, but that seems really, really, unlikely to me. 3. If they have 45MM left, and a good SP costs 20MM a year, that leaves 25MM. Now you need two RPs, that's another 15-20MM, and a 2B, and an OF and maybe a backup #B. You are out of money before you even get to 2B or OF, unless you want to spend a lot less on players, in which case, it is harder to get real impact. 4. I don't believe they have any where near 60MM to spend.
  4. Ersatz Logan Morrison 2:45 What are your thoughts on the Twins picking up a second Rays first baseman? Meg Rowley 2:46 That if present LoMo and possibly future LoMo are ever in the same room together, it could rip a hole in space time? Cron's 2018 was promising. There's limited upside there, but he's also likely an upgrade on their existing options and isn't very pricey. https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/meg-rowley-fangraphs-chat-11-27-18/
  5. I hope they acquire some long term assets this year. They've acquired one MLB player that was for more than 2 years so far....one. So, while I think Gray is an interesting bounce back option, that leaves Pineda, Gibson, Gray and Odorizzi all with 1 year left on the team. That doesn't scream long term competitiveness to me.
  6. It simply isn't true that "the same people complaining" wanted Cruz.....you know, like me, nicksaviking, and vanimal, for instance who wanted a rotation of guys currently on the roster. And, for the money to be spent on difference makers at SP and an OF that they could trust (and rotate into DH some).
  7. I really hope they aren't using ST to make decisions on this kind of thing. That's not a good use of sample sizes, among other problems.
  8. We shared a preference.......with Garver's concussion history, I'd have made him nearly the full time 1B.....you know, so he doesn't end up with brain issues, and can have a long, healthy, life and career.
  9. Sano, Kepler, Garver, Astudillo, Austin. That seems like enough first base options to me. Add a legit OF who can also DH. Rooker is in AAA as a backup option. They now have 39 players on the forty man.
  10. Especially if said player is signed for more than a year or two..... Like, an actual long term asset.
  11. Every move? This is the first move, isn't it? I'm not angry,I disagree with the move. A lot.
  12. Or, we don't like the move. For all the actual reasons laid out, and it isn't some kind of irrational anger over losing.
  13. And he's controlled for two years, can only play one position, and costs more. They need multiple RP, a really good SP, a backup 3B, and a SS or 2b, and probably an OF. This just doesn't do much given all their options. Also, I no longer believe they believe in Rooker. Certainly not for this year.
  14. So you think this did not come out of the free agent budget at all? They'll still spend just as much? So if they keep him, they would be four or five million over budget. Or, you think they have a fre agent budget, and it is now less?
  15. If the twins have a fifty million dollar spending budget, five of that is gone. Do people think they'll go over, and then cut Cron? Or, do you think that money is now spent and not not available?
  16. Ten to fifteen percent of their free agent budget is now gone. To add a guy that might be 1 WAR better than Austin, and making it likely Garver sits around for 80-100 games, instead of playing some first and DH .... At least to start the year. Unless Austin is gone.
  17. My plan was to add an OF that can also DH. Which I meant to add above, but I thought it was implied from my previous posts in this thread.... And, Garver is my nearly full time 1B, and Astudillo is my backup catcher. mostly. Some flexibility there. And, if Sano isn't great, all this is moot anyway, so he's DH some to rest him.
  18. they have an off season budget, are they going over it, and keeping Cron around until they cut him later? That seems unlikely to me. Not how I imagine anyone running a business.
  19. Depends.....if I think I can spend the money better on adding RP and SP, I probably roll the dice and play Austin, Kepler, Sano, Astudillo, Garver at 1B/DH when they aren't playing other positions.......it isn't as easy as choosing between those players, you also have to consider that there are only 25 roster spots, some players have options, and there are budget constraints. Would you rather have Eovaldi or Corbin, or the next best pitcher that you can get for $5MM less than one of those two?
  20. Austin, Kepler, Garver, Sano, Astudillo.....that's what I've said all off season.
  21. They have about 30-40MM in money available, give or take. $5MM is somewhere between 12 and 17 percent of their entire FA budget. Give or take. And, they should have cut Grossman anyway, and added $4MM to their FA budget, that's a 10-15% increase in budget.
  22. You don't think that $5MM is now spent, and coming off what they would spend on other FAs or trades? I do. so, it's not just not signing another 1bDH, it's not spending that $5MM someplace else too.
  23. I need a lot more stats than that, plus playing time, plus positional options to make any comment. Oh, and age, and if there are options left.....lots more data.
  24. Rosario, Buxton, Cave, Kepler, Austin, Cron are all VERY likely to be on this team in April. It seems hard to believe they'll add another OF. I would have preferred another OF, since I have doubts about EVERY single name there.......you seem to think they will still add another OF. If not 5, who from the above is not on the roster? And, how do you have all those players, and Austidillo and Gaver and Castro on the roster at the same time?
  25. Or, they could spend $5MM more on their preferred SP.......
