  1. 2017 is his best year in years...... Here is where he is over the last 2.5 years among first baseman with at least 500 ABs over that time (200 per year) since the number of qualifiers is too low to be meaningful: 18th in the majors - remember, that includes his best year in years Adding in 2015,,,,, 20th. that's WAR, so it includes defense. Taking out defense: Mauer is 46th among 1B in offense since 2015.... 31st in offense only since 2016
  2. Some great prospects for sure. The pitching depth seems so much better than in the past, imagine if Stewart or Jay were doing better... Thanks for the great coverage of the minors!
  3. All Wade does is hit. And steal some bases (not many, but some). And play defense. big fan.
  4. Of course they count, but they aren't particularly predictive. and, they are on pace for 110-120 losses, so, not an exaggeration. Historically bad. The next worst teams have won 50% more games than they have.
  5. The Twins beat up on 2 of the historically worst teams in MLB history.....I hope the FO isn't fooled by that.
  6. I don't suppose any of the crack reports asked why McGill is on the roster, and not being used....say, ever, or in a blow out? I am baffled by this....
  7. I'm done. It's almost like we are ignoring all the posts here. Enjoy.
  8. Except for all the new draft picks added.....to the list also (at least on FG) https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-updated-top-131-prospect-rankings/
  9. With Dozier hitting 40 bombs, and Mauer having his best year in the last four....both of whom may not be on the roster. And, as pointed out by you and others, not even close to competitive in the playoffs. Catcher is one of the few spots where they can clearly upgrade, from "meh" to good or better. They'll either need to trade to do so, or will have to outbid the other teams for the 2 good FA catchers. I'm not saying they SHOULD trade for Realmuto, I'm saying it is one of the few opportunities to get an elite player they have.
  10. Has anyone argued otherwise, on that last point? I sure haven't. Do you think it likely they will outbid all the other teams needing catchers? I can't think of one time they've outbid teams for the top talent in FA....they are good at getting the "efficient" plays....
  11. Like? There aren't many good choices, if we exclude the outfield, to upgrade the team in free agency. Also, assuming we exclude the elite talents
  12. Definitely not a preference for pitching, having read them the last few years. They are all bunched up in about the same spot, my only point is that I don't get the opinion that somehow they made the right choice for sure or not at this point.....nothing more or less.
  13. I'll take that bet. I'm guessing he's a league average MIF for at least five years of his career (barring injury of course).
  14. Since you asked what I'd do....I'd rotate Gordon with those two, and have him playing at least 2/3 of the time. Despite what some say, ML experience and information gathering are important, and I'd want to gather info. Then, unless he's awesome, I demote him to AAA to start next year. If he is awesome, he's my starter. Lots of teams are learning that they should trust great performances, and let players prove them right or wrong.....I'd take that chance if he's great up here in September. Most likely, he's ok, and he starts next year in AAA.
  15. If that's what you really think, then they should blow it up, right? Didn't you just type you don't think they can compete next year? IF so, fine, trade Gibson and anyone else not part of 2020 or beyond.
  16. Gibson loses a lot of value if you wait another half year to deal him. So, yes, I'm asking them to make a decision with imperfect information. I've looked at the FA list, it's not actually all that pretty......
  17. FG has Gore, McKay and Wright ranked higher in their updated prospect list, and they've seen them and talked to scouts across the leagues to do those updates. Greene has been better as the year has gone on, but is ranked lower than Lewis on their update. I love Lewis, but I just don't get these posts at all. For the list....I don't know if I'd have Gonsalves this high, but I'm not sure or not. Can't argue with the rest of the top 5, or the order, at all. A good top 5 for sure. Lewis can hit and run and Kiriloff looks like the hitter that the scouts talked about. Gaterol has elite stuff, just need to see how it holds up and develops. Grodon will have a long career at SS or 2B, maybe not elite, but good, long, career.
  18. actually, I've been clear just a few posts above that I'd be ok if they went a different route.....just a couple posts up. But, pick a route, that isn't the middle "do nothing" path that either doesn't add minor league talent, or doesn't add ML talent.
  19. I'd guess Adrianza or Polanco plays 2B when/if Dozier is traded. Gordon will be up in September, and rarely play, if history is any indicator...
  20. Of course, those would not be the only two things that happen, either...... How does not adding talent help them get closer?
  21. they won't be as good as those teams in the next three years w/o major trades and / or major FA signings. The Twins will be w/o Mauer and Dozier (most likely), with no replacement for either that looks even close to those two at their peaks. They have no catcher that will be really good in that time frame. They have one or two starting pitchers. They might never be as good as the Yankees if the Yankees keep cranking out prospects and keep signing / trading for great players. Houston and Boston ad NYY are younger and better, and have better prospects in AAA. What is the strategy to ever be as good as them in the Buxton/Sano window?
