  1. mike sixel 3:30 I'd think Buxton isn't signing any kind of deal until he is healthy next year, at which point the Twins probably won't pay him what he wants.....what do you do with Buxton? I know you said you can't trade him for value.....but you also can't sign him long term (as he'll want to be paid like an elite player).... Ben Clemens 3:31 I think I'd just let him play out the string, if he mashes great, and keep trying to convince him to stay If he's the MVP (or something near that) next year, you got your value If not, well, you probably still got as much value as you could have traded him for It's always nice to perpetual-motion-machine it like the Rays, but it's not always possible
  2. I'm fascinated by all the posts saying how valuable he is, but that the Twins wouldn't get value for him......Like, isn't what you'd get back 100% the measure of how valuable he is? In any event, I don't think there is ANY chance they deal him. More likely they deal Gordon as a throw in with another player, who goes onto have real value to a team that will actually play him (like, I don't know, a team whose CF is hurt and the prospect they have up can't hit MLB pitching yet......).
  3. Which other teams have successfully replicated Tampa's success? I think that's the point some are making....it is hubris to assume the Twins can, when no one else has. Sure, use a lot of what Tampa uses, but to assume you can replicate it when no one else can seems like a bad idea. I mean, why can't every golfer just use the same process as Phil Mickelson and win as much as him? Process alone is not enough to be successful. But then, you know that. At least I think that is what people are trying to say, at least that's how I read what they are saying.
  4. I'm too lazy to look at much more than wRC+.....I know given my posting volume that might be hard to believe......but that stats enough for me 90% of the time. If the Twins were to trade for someone, I'd probably look at what makes that up some.....
  5. We agree on that....I'm pushing back on the "RBI are a measure of how good a hitter he is".... To BE CLEAR.....no one is saying RBI don't matter. No one. Not one person. What some are saying is the RBI are a function of the other hitters around you, and opportunity......and that if you want to know how good a hitter someone is, you should look at other things. I remember people saying Mauer wasn't a good hitter because he didn't have enough RBI....when you looked at the stats, he actually hit BETTER with people on base than the bases empty, but he didn't have many opportunities given where he hit in the order, and the hitters in front of him...... No one is saying RBI don't matter. People are saying something totally different than that..... None of that is aimed at MLR......btw. He and I agree on this, though I guess that would be hard to tell sometimes
  6. Not everyone here will admit they might be wrong....I was just making sure no one thought I was some kind of MLB contract expert....
  7. I think he's going to want 4/100.....as a guarantee, and the ability to sign another deal.....maybe as low as 3/70......but that is a total guess.....compare him to Donaldson..... If he played half a year at 1/4th this year's pace, he'd put up 4 fWAR.....what is that worth? If you play a guy like Kepler the other half, and he puts up 1-2 as your CF? I'd guess a lot.... But, sure I could be wrong.....I freely admit that.
  8. Who would Eddie be driving in, on this team? I mean....he's on pace for 100 because he hits in the prime RBI spot for a good hitting team....not because he's a better hitter than those two.
  9. The Yankees paid oft-injured and not as good Aaron Hicks 7/70....they'd pay twice that to Buxton, at least. They and other big-market teams CAN take the risk that Buxton plays more than 120 games a year.....I just don't know if the Twins can. Like, I don't know the answer for a team like the Twins. The Twins paid sometimes injured Donaldson 4/92.....Anyone think Buxton is worth less than that? I doubt the Twins or Byron do.....
  10. Got it. I too would like the coaches to be more aggressive.....
  11. Trying to understand....are people saying the player should have run through the stop sign the coach put up? That's what people want?
  12. How is that fair to Buxton? I mean, looking at what Donaldson got, that's low.....and that's from a mid market team....
  13. Not one place did Vanimal say he was mad....he said one side wasn't interested in staying together. I'm not sure where you got this at all. As to the point, MLR is right. Buxton and his agent want him to be paid like a superstar....and 5/100MM isn't close to that. I'm guessing 4/100 would be a good starting point, as it is a longer term prove it deal, that still gets him to FA at 31/2.....Even that probably isn't enough, though. More like at least $150MM ...over 6 years is the minimum.
  14. I've mostly been wrong this year.... But a nice ETF is DRGO.....
  15. In context of the system, next year looks lost to me.... So I've suggested that for the right price, I'd deal more players than I want, yes
  16. When it comes to expiring contracts I'd copy them. I'd copy a lot, but realize that isn't enough.... They also need to spend more aggressively. I certainly don't think they should always do what Tampa does, but they should consider it .... I'm no defender of this team but paying players like Tampa....
  17. One team can do what Tampa does. One. The Twins need to be more aggressive than Tampa, because it is more than unlikely they can duplicate what Tampa does. That said, they can copy some of what Tampa does. .... But they can't just do that.
  18. I'd be happy to get a high ceiling player for him. He won't be here next year.
  19. I'd deal him....they have Polanco, maybe Gordon, and several minor league players that look like they can play 2nd, all of whom probably have more speed and more power and likely play better D. That said, I'd keep him if they don't get an offer they like. In other words, I'm not looking to deal him, but am willing to deal him. Trade from strength.....
  20. Same.....because they won't find 3 good starters in trades/FA.....hence, move them both to AAA NOW, and get more data against better hitters. If possible, get them some time in MN but I have my doubts given innings limits.
  21. apples and oranges.....since Berrios has an influence on every opposition AB while in the game......but you knew that.
  22. All the more reason to promote faster......Or not. But if not, good luck getting much help in MN early next year.
  23. While I have my doubts* about him.....I agree. Let's see what he can do. *doubts = I don't have as much confidence he's a legit MLB players as I do some others.
  24. Too early.....but if they don't have one of Duran, The B pitcher whose name I don't know how to spell, or Winder in the majors this year, so they are ready next year, I will be ready to look closely at removing them. They have zero to show on the pitching front, other than maybe Ober, so far. Zero. If they don't have 2 good starters from their minors in the MN rotation next year, I don't think I'd keep them around. 5-6 years is enough time to develop 2 good starters. So....too early, but next year is the deal maker/breaker for me (unless they all get injured, you can't control injuries). And, they do have responsibility for developing the players that were here when they got here....the process was supposed to be better, not just the scouting. As for FA and trades? I'm not in love, but I'm not in hate, with what has been done there......
