  1. I'm not sure how that Escobar trade is anything but an A at this point. It was an expiring contract in a year the team was going nowhere. My issue with all of the "buy" trades was they aimed low. Like they were hedging their bet, instead of really going for it. I recall the angst many here had about trading Ynoa, and how those people were pretty much ridiculed for thinking the Twins couldn't afford to deal a low A prospect for a legit MLB pitcher. The Pressley trade is the only one that I think (of the sales) you can really question. That said, the two guys they got should be better at some point. Getting anything for Diaz was good. Signing him in the first place was VERY questionable. They had the most or near most international room that year, and signed a 1B. Mind. Boggling. So? Inspiring? Not really, yet. Terrible? The only two you can question, and one of those is pure hindsight, is Ynoa and Pressley. Mostly they deal guys with not much value for guys that have not yet (and maybe never will) provided much value. Really, the issue is NOT being more bold. Trading off good/great players for better prospects, or trading better prospects for better MLB players. Much like the last FO, pretty much very conservative.
  2. I have no idea what that has to do with Tatis Jr?
  3. Tatis wasn't this highly thought of when dealt. Had he been, he wouldn't have been dealt. The key is to pick the right players, regardless of how everyone else feels about them. As for the game......Rodon is pitching great this year. But you still have to score more than 1 run...... As for trading Berrios, I don't think anyone WANTS to trade him. Some of us think the Twins won't/can't sign him after next year, and it is better to get something for him other than a comp. pick (yes, I know he was one, but it's a rare comp pick that turns out this great). Personally, I'd like them to sign both Buxton and Berrios. I just don't see it as likely at all.
  4. Certainly a promising list for a team that won't pay for top pitching. I only know what I read, but Duran reads like a RP and Winder like Berrios, so I don't understand the rankings.... But that's nitpicking. Let's hope at least half work out!
  5. I will harbor no excuses. It is their job to make this franchise better. If they don't deal a couple guys, they will have failed.
  6. He's not paid to "do fine"....though. that's one of the issues for this team.
  7. In looking at Kepler's numbers.....he's an above average player this year.....so I guess I don't understand the angst. Especially for the cost. He'll probably end up with 2.3-2.5 fWAR, hit about 10-15% better than league average, and run fairly well. If they played him in CF (instead of Celestino) he'd be about average in CF ....bumping his WAR up even more. I think worrying about Kepler is much ado about nothing.
  8. FWIW.........Fangraphs' new mock is up....they have the Twins taking 2 catchers.....2 more guys that can't play SS, CF, or pitch, in round 1 and 1+.
  9. there is a 0% chance the FO signed Donaldson to prove they weren't cheap. They signed him because they believed in this core and their ability to find pitching.
  10. Add me to the list of Winder is way too low (or, he's not actually a legit SP prospect that people think is a number 3 or better)....and an older player who can't hit A ball is way too high (another bat first corner player in round 1, ugh).
  11. We who? Do we think any players really care what is said on this message board? I don't. I find his antics entertaining, so it 100% isn't about that for me..... I'd trade him to free up money to hopefully keep Buxton and/ or sign a pitcher or SS. They don't have a SS next year at all, and I think they can cobble together 3B easier than SS.
  12. I'm pretty sure the nail was in the coffin before. Now? Now it is in the ground....I really did NOT see this coming, but it is reality now. Alas.
  13. Risk....while the others have higher upside, Ober is in the majors and doing back-end stuff already. The others aren't close the majors (and injured)........rankings are about risk and reward, not just reward.
  14. It is amazing that BOTH Kepler and Sano are not hitting well....... What to do this year? Keep sending them out and hope they find their groove again. There isn't much other option, imo.
  15. Dobnak and Thorpe don't have stuff.....it isn't their struggles, it is their stuff. They are likely great AAAA pitchers. It is possible they are more, but neither has the stuff of a good MLB pitcher. I'm hoping Winder and whomever else is healthy gets 8-10 starts in the majors this year, so they are more likely to be ready next year.
  16. Because Rogers isn't good at it. No idea why. He just isn't.
  17. Just to be clear......if Winder and/or others come up and show something....that's great. I've said all along this is the year that I will start judging their development practices. But if they haven't done anything by the end of year 5....ugh. So, ya, still early to say one way or the other, but so far, not good.
  18. I really hope they don't take a 19 year old HS player who only plays a corner position.
  19. How many good starting pitchers can they actually sign next year? Maybe 1. To be clear, you think they can trade one year veterans for starting pitchers that will be ready day 1 next year? I have my doubts, but I'd love that!
  20. Right..... I get it. The farm was BARREN of pitching prospects....but that doesn't mean this FO should have Ober and ??? to show for their time here. That's it, right? Of the MLB pitchers, they have maybe 1 guy anyone trusts? Alcala? Jax? Dobnak? Who have they brought up from the minors anyone really believes with any certainty is a MLB pitcher, let alone starting pitcher?
  21. What is the path to 2022 being competitive, even with Berrios? That's 1 starting pitcher you can count on. They might be able to sign one good SP in free agency.....so that's 2. Pineda is gone. Maeda? I don't trust him.
