    I think there honestly needs to be a #4: They were a little spooked that last year’s deadline deals were a disaster.

    Good question about Dallas Keuchel. I guess we will find out soon enough. The Brock Stewart thing was always too good to be true. How many guys suddenly add 5 to 6 mph to their fastball? Best to thank him for his contributions than worry about his absence. The rotation should still be fine, but are starting to wear down. Clearly they were overachieving in the first half. Odds are good that at least one of them gets hot again as the season winds down. And then Correa and Buxton. Shoulder shrug. Sounds like doing nothing at the deadline was unacceptable to a lot of fans here. Well, I had no idea what they were supposed to do, and neither did they, apparently.

    Hopefully this launches Houston into the AL West division win. I shudder at the thought of hosting them as a 4 seed in the opening round. (Would probably be 2 games and out, our only round)

    This Twins front office doesn’t do squishy stuff. If this is up for debate, then I would start by asking why they traded away Arraez, a fan favorite.

    ? I don’t know how you can compare Cleveland and Tampa Bay. They are both smart? Sure that works Clevaland has been in MLB for 100 years, and Tampa Bay is the youngest MLB franchise that literally had no fan base and no money when their team began playing, still have few fans and little money, and adapted accordingly.

    Strategic trade by Cleveland. They sold high on Civale and are thinking beyond 2023. Even if Cleveland happens to back into the postseason this year, they have no shot of going anywhere. The Twins at least have a punchers chance of advancing past the first round. I have no idea how Cleveland fans feel about that trade. Probably a range of opinions. I am expecting a quiet day tomorrow, but like you said, with this front office you have no idea. I’m confident Larnach stays put. Can money and draft picks be traded nowadays?

    It feels more like 'sell' to me too, but not throwing in the towel. It looks like they will gamble on 2023 with their three impressive rookie starters still in the rotation, plus Syndergaard now, plus whatever callups or bullpen games they can patch together. It was probably their best or only chance to get a guy they really liked in Manzardo.

    That's what makes this fun. Civale is pitching really well, but the guy from Tampa Bay will flat out mash and could provide a spark for them like Julien has for us. Cleveland has those six years of team control of him, in exchange for 2.5 years of Civale. We hear it all the time, but in this case it is probably true that Civale's trade value will never be higher than it is right now.

    Well, right. To their credit, Larnach was their starting left fielder as the season opened, but when they started needing roster slots, Larnach usuall drew the short straw because he had options. Larnach does strike out a lot but he can hit and is still among the team leaders for RBI, despite not playing for the last month. Kepler and Gallo are gone next year. I don’t know what problem is solved by trading Larnach.

    Falvey called Larnach one of the team leaders back in April, so I would be very surprised if Larnach is traded before really getting a fair shot here. I know the Larnach steam is out there, I’d just be surprised.

    How bad is the AL Central this year? Every other team in the American League--except for Oakland--every other team in the American League has a better record than the Twins. The Twins would be in 5th place in the AL West, and in 6th place in the AL East.

    The Twins have the best record in the AL Central, but if they don’t come back tonight, they will have the worst record of the remaining teams in the American League except for Oakland. Except for Oakland, all the other teams in the American League have better records than all of the AL Central teams.

    The problem with the postseason is that you can’t count on the other teams to beat themselves, like bad teams Oakland, White Sox or KC do

    This is a very interesting trade. This is not Cleveland throwing in the towel. I’m a big believer in change of scene making a difference for pitchers, and Cleveland is obviously hoping Syndergaard can find some former glory. He will definitely get his chances. My guess is Cleveland will go with Tyler Freeman at short, a prospect who is waiting to graduate and get regular playing time. Cleveland probably gets better both offensively and defensively, just by playing Freeman or someone else over Rosario.
