  1. Game theory. They want the other team to believe Duran is available at any time.
  2. I think Duran is a great reliever but I also think we haven't seen his best season. He can get better with location.
  3. Castro has been well above average defensively. He might be the best fielding utility player in baseball in 2023.
  4. 100% of balls hit over the outfield fence become hits. A triple play is factually the worst outcome of a plate appearance.
  5. Plausible, but it's never likely to win 4 games in a row. The Twins have been winning 70% of their games over their last 10 but that only gives them even odds to win the next 2 in a row. To get a 50% chance of winning 4 in a row you need an 85% chance of winning each game. To be "likely" you're saying the Twins have a greater than 85% chance of winning each of the next four games.
  6. Helman will be a minor league free agent. He should be looking for a non-contender.
  7. I hate even more that they split the games and the different rounds over multiple networks to require you to have a premium cable bundle to get all the games. If I could stream all the games on MLB.tv I wouldn't care what time it was on.
  8. Increased velocity is going to shorten careers. I think Joey Votto, for example, would still be productive if pitchers were throwing 92 but he can't catch up to 98 MPH. You're going to have a whole generation of players who don't have "Hall of Fame" statistics. Very few pitchers > 150 wins, very few hitters > 2500 hits or > .250 batting average.
  9. I found this article today Pitching Velocity Continues To Climb. How Can Hitters Adapt? (baseballamerica.com)
  10. Feller threw gas. His contemporaries included guys who threw 85 MPH fastballs. That whole list is full of pitchers with great fastballs.
  11. The Twins were 18-25 in one run games. If they won half of their one run games they would have won 21 or 22. 3-4 additional wins, not 10. What is your evidence that they lost those games solely because of the batters striking out? The bullpen was a mess for most of the season.
  12. I agree with this. I also believe you have to give a lot of that credit to Rocco.
  13. The last line is important. I don't expect this record to last very long. We may look back on this team and remember fondly how often they made contact.
  14. They can only have 14 pitchers. If they kept Floro they'd have to option someone else. They can't option Floro so cutting him opened spots on the 28 and 40 man rosters.
  15. That was Byron Buxton. They traded Aaron Hicks to clear a place for Buxton on the roster. He wasn't good for a couple more seasons.
  16. Peter was the one who said he thought it would happen. He should be giving me even odds. I split the difference.
  17. They could make it to the World Series. All they need to do is go 9-6.
  18. It's more likely the Twins play Toronto than Texas in the first round. The Jays close the season against the Yankees and Rays. If the Jays get the #2 wild card they will be playing back-to-back series against Tampa.
  19. If Texas goes 2-5 they will get the 2 seed. I will give you 10-1 odds that the Twins are not the #2 seed.
  20. Keuchel will probably pitch in the Colorado series, then a bullpen game to end the season.
  21. No, they're both below average players who won't help a team win in the playoffs.
  22. They did win - on Friday night. The rest of these games are basically exhibition games now. Give everyone enough playing time to be fresh for the playoffs. No sense burning the whole team out chasing the 1% chance at the #2 seed only to fall short and be exhausted for round 1.
  23. You wouldn't have to worry about that. He would never make it through waivers.
  24. We're at least one additional infield injury away from thinking about Brooks Lee.
