  1. Telling Joe Ryan "You're starting Game 4" should soothe any hurt feelings.
  2. With Lewis still hurt I think Stevenson as a pinch runner and defensive replacement is more valuable than Buxton as a pinch hitter.
  3. Zoilo had one great season, but really only one great season. It's kind of sad that having one great season puts you in contention for best Twins SS ever.
  4. My wife was wondering how they clean the carpet too.
  5. Massively unfair to lump Cal Ripken in with Derek Jeter. That's like saying "I've seen Torii Hunter and Rich Becker play CF". Ripken was a plus-plus defender at SS. It wasn't necessarily range (although he had as much as Correa does this season with his chronic foot injury) but instead he had great positioning, heads-up play, impeccable fundamentals and strong, accurate arm. Sounds like Carlos Correa to me. BTW - Correa has had one season of +20 RField. Ripken had five of them and played in an era where most teams sacrificed offense for defense at SS.
  6. Or you let some other team pay for his (potentially injury riddled) 30s and play someone younger.
  7. I'd say the "sweeper" has been around for 60 years. It's just a slider that is more horizontal than diagonal.
  8. I understand why Rocco does it the other way. He can guarantee Julien and Polanco both hit in the first inning. If they get a lead he can pull them quickly. If Polanco pinch hits then they need to find another player to replace him defensively and the bench starts getting thin.
  9. That's funny, because my direct quote was "it was a great play". So much hyperbole on this because of the emotional impact of the play. It was a great play. It was a difficult play. It was not the best play ever made by a SS in the history of baseball. A faster baserunner would have made it even more difficult for someone else to make that play but Bo Bichette got thrown out by 8 feet.
  10. For modern players I would expect Lindor and Swanson to make that play. Crawford would have made it a couple years ago but he's a step slower now. Other guys (Adames, Pena, Seager, Witt, Turner, Bogaerts) COULD make the play but I wouldn't expect them to. Heck, Kyle Farmer could make that play if you told him what was going to happen in advance but probably not in real-time.
  11. The MLB website shows Games 1 and 2 on FS1, Game 3 on FOX. Games 4 and 5 are TBD. College football and the NFL will be on FOX on Saturday and Sunday.
  12. I have seen people write "nobody practices that play" which is utter garbage. I know Correa has practiced that play because his throwing fundamentals were right out of the clock drill. You don't accidentally get perfect baseball fundamentals.
  13. I can believe this coming from a Twins fan because in all the years I've watched the Twins only Greg Gagne is on par with Carlos Correa defensively. The Twins have not been a hotbed of talent at SS over their history.
  14. Watch the replay again. At the moment Jeffers caught the ball Bichette was at least 8 feet away from home plate. He was at the edge of the dirt circle around the batters boxes.
  15. You should have watched Ozzie Smith and Cal Ripken in the 1980s.
  16. Even with a hundred extra grounders Polanco will still be a worse 3B option than Farmer, Castro and maybe even Solano. Julien is nearly as good as Polanco at 2B now but that's mainly because Polanco is looking washed up defensively.
  17. This is some pretty extreme hyperbole. People brought up the Jeter throw as an immediate comparison. If an awful SS like Derek Jeter can make a similar throw there are plenty of SS who can make that throw. It was a great play but Carlos Correa is not the only MLB SS who can make great plays.
  18. You're making the assumption that other SS couldn't have been good defensively and hit a few singles. Correa is a very good SS and a smart player but he's not the only very good, smart SS in MLB.
  19. I wouldn't necessarily say this team is built on defense. Polanco, Wallner, Julien and Kirilloff are in the starting lineup for offense. Fortunately they have someone (Castro, Farmer, Solano, Stevenson) available to replace all of them defensively if the team takes a lead.
  20. Ober was better than Duran, too. I think people continue to underestimate how much more difficult it is to be a starting pitcher and get outs for 5-6 innings than it is to be a reliever and get outs for 1 inning.
  21. Sonny Gray was phenomenal at limiting HR this season. That's everything in 2023 baseball.
  22. The Twins were clearly more prepared for this series than the Blue Jays. Great job by the guys behind the scenes figuring out how Gausman was tipping the splitter and also the Jays hitters' vulnerability to curveballs. The Jays were outmanaged in several ways.
  23. I have no idea who that reporter thought he was talking about. Can someone tag him and ask?
  24. Expanding the zone with 3 balls in the count is a terrible idea. That pitch gives him a walk at least 75% of the time. Swinging at a pitch at the edge of the zone is not going to have a 750 OBP, especially for Julien who has a hard time hitting pitches in that part of the zone.
