  1. I’m with you. Toby is probably heir apparent edit to add: I think he’s a great candidate
  2. I’m with you on doubt Rocco is fired. They’d have to miss the post season, and even then, maybe third place in the division. I have no idea if Cruz can be a good manager or hitting coach. This is probably not the right time for the Twins to find out… unless Falvey or Levine get canned and they gut/rebuild. a scorched-earth rebuild might drive me away from the team. Yuck
  3. His -0.26 WPA indicates what happens when he’s forced into leverage. my vote is no, he has not atoned. his role needs to be for relievers with 5-6 years of control in front of them, not a 5 year veteran. It’s a terrible investment where you put the cost of using those key development innings and the best case scenario is you get crap innings and then extend him at full market price. nothing against Emilio Pagan, and I hope he gets his money, but it shouldn’t be, because the MN Twins are the poster children for the sunk cost fallacy
  4. I love a good super utility guy as much as the next, and think he’s earned his spot over G-Cinco, but let’s not over-sell his fielding. He’s average in 6 positions. That has value, but he’s not an “elite fielder”
  5. Agreed, if they do trade off Gray, there’s no shot in the post season. The pitching is built for the season, not the post season.
  6. I’m with Chief, not worried about Gray’s comments. I’m listening on trade offers for Gray, but only accepting an absolutely silly overpay. He’s worth a ton to the Twins and I want to watch good baseball, not continuous rebuilds. the QO is a win-win for the Twins
  7. To the OP, I agree that it’s easy to game plan against a one dimensional opponent. Lineup construction matters.
  8. https://www.eg.bucknell.edu/~bvollmay/baseball/runs1.html Disagreed, the linked article does a good explanation of old school stat correlation to run creation
  9. But then why measure barrels and hard hit rate? Pitching and hitting stats normalize at different rates, but there isn’t a FIH, just a FIP.
  10. I caught the Twins at Wrigley pre-renovation and it was just kinda old, but the charm of the rooftop bleachers was cool and the neighborhood around it is awesome! I caught a Brewers game there post-reno. The scoreboard was jarring
  11. https://www.eg.bucknell.edu/~bvollmay/baseball/runs1.html Ks have almost no correlation to runs scored. R-squared is statistical fit of the trend line. 0 is no correlation. 1 is perfect correlation. Of course the trend line is negative, but the R-squared is -.078. This in compared to OPS the R squared is positive .9 so if we look at the Twins Ks leading the league, it doesn’t tell us much about how well they score runs relative to the league. the Twins are 24th in the league in Runs scores they of course lead the league in K rate But they’re 22nd in OPS why? Because they’re 16th in walks and 20th in slugging. So yes, they’re 24th in the league in scoring runs. The sneaky thing is they’re second in preventing runs they don’t need to be the best hitting team in the league to go on a tear. Incremental run improvement can absolutely improve this team’s outlook.
  12. I don’t expect Gray to retire either. He still has a ton of fire. However, Gray strikes me as a guy who would pitch for free.
  13. And you call yourself a Twins fan?! how did you pass the quiz in order to get your TD login credentials?
  14. what does “urgency” look like to make a decision for JP? Will JP give a sell order (or buy order) to Falvey by the trade deadline? Has he already? What might need to happen between July 14 and July 24 that might change the course of direction? Is July 24 the deadline?
  15. NYT moderates their comments, just like Twins Daily does. Not sure if the Strib does, but my guess is, no
  16. This is where I’m at too. I’ll believe the urgency when I see it in action. In order to change there actually has to be, you know… change
  17. inside Twins has the interview https://podcasts.google.com?feed=aHR0cDovL21sYi5tbGIuY29tL2ZlZWQvcG9kY2FzdC9taW5fcG9kY2FzdF9yc3MueG1s&episode=MzI0ZWUwMjYtMmE1NS0xMWVkLWE1ZTAtNDMzYTZjOTk4N2My
  18. I was on this train for a very long time. Then I read Rocco’s Rant again, and I realized part of his exasperation is, he has no idea what to do. if your manager and hitting coach are at a loss, it’s time to change. Agreed, there likely won’t be enough improvement to magically turn the season around, but a different hitting coach will bring a different perspective that isn’t loss and failure.
  19. Not exactly inspirational candidates to be the head hitting coach
  20. Does strike shortened count? regardless, winning the AL West was no huge feat. Rangers “won” it with 52-62 record.
