    Uh, there is way too much season left to not keep Louie stretched out. SWR will be back up, but Louie needs to be a starting pitcher (either in St Paul or Minneapolis)

    When Pitchers and Catchers report, some hitters show up, but they don’t really do drills or backfield games. The first full week with hitters, usually end of Feb into beginning of March, is my favorite. Just a couple days after they begin drills, but the moods are still good because they are all catching up with old friends and family. the closer to opening day, the more minor leaguers get reassigned and things get serious. It’s still a lot of fun! But that first full week… and you can also run into “us” at ST too. Many of us go every year, meet us at winter meltdown, see us again at ST. i usually run into Seth Stohs for some reason. He’s always super nice!

    That’s easy for you to say in hind site, without the decades that many of us have put in to making this site what it is if Phil Mackey had gotten his way (he wasn’t the only one)… you and I wouldn’t be having this conversation now. There wouldn’t be a forum for us to have a coherent discussion at all. That the owners of this site stuck to their guns and pushed through is why we have what we do. They let you post content created elsewhere here. Do you understand how privileged you are? Try putting up a Jeff Bezos or Sam Walton poster up in your local boutique and see how they like it.

    Phil Mackey holds a special place in many of our memories. In the early days of TD he initially supported, then attacked many of the founders of the website. In the 15 years since, the lines have blurred and time has forgotten, but the emotions are still a little raw

    The Twins led the league in Strikeouts last year 1,650 a record. Last year the MLB struck out 41,826 times, had 40,832 hits. The average team struck out 1394 times, In 1902 the cumulative league struck out 1,290 times. in 2023 the strikeout leaders also scored the 10th most runs league wide.     To calibrate a bit in 2023 the Twins were 4th in mlb in starting pitcher innings pitched at 895 innings. There were 5 pitchers who broke the 200 inning threshold in ‘23, none of which were Twins. Pablo came in 9th in the league with 194 innings, Sonny came in 22nd at 184. Ryan 44th at 162 innings, Ober 64th at 144, Maeda 117th at 101 innings. The quest to 1400ish innings requires starting rotation depth through 7-10 at a reasonably high quality, plus a significant reliever work load.

    To concur with this post and back it up Arraez Polanco Julien Arraez’ best year fielding 2B was ‘22 at 1 run above average, but the body of evidence, especially last year is a terrible 2B. Polanco was a -5 at 2B last year. Julien over the course of the season was a 0. average is a low bar, but better than -10

    Concur! My in-laws just sold their house in Fort Myers. I was there 10 of the last 15 spring trainings…. It’s the best! Especially the minor league games and the backfield practices

    The Op has Santana as the starter, as do several posters, and Santana has been mediocre to bad for 4 years… I fail to see the difference other than the dollars.

    This is why I understand and accept the Santana signing. I don’t love it, but I get it. i still gotta bet on AK because he’s the strong side of the platoon and younger, he’s the most likely, and has the most upside.
