  1. Scott Erickson had an EPIC mullet
  2. Agreed, the straw-man here is really difficult because it’s not a one:one comp. The question isn’t “what if player A’s results were replaced by player B’s results?” The straw-man is “what if instead of carrying both Winder and Sands on the roster, they shuttled between the two and carried another leverage arm?” “What if those 13 games 22 innings were thrown by one roster spot?” Really hard to determine, but declining to use either pitcher in even modestly leveraged situations is a decision too.
  3. Good discussion point. I think we need to add that Sands and Winder have been bad and underutilized, putting more innings on Jax, Pagan, Thielbar, and Duran Any of Lopez, Hicks, Stratton, Moll would have been an improvement over either Winder or Sands and would have spread the burden out on Jax, Pagan, Thielbar and Duran. At least Jax and Duran are looking a little tired right now. Agreed, no better than the current top end relievers in the Twins Bullpen, but comparable to Jax and Pagan and adding depth.
  4. The rule is “down 8 runs you can pitch with a position player at any time, up 10 you can pitch with a position player in the 9th”.
  5. The Cleveland broadcast explained… if you are up 10 runs you can have a position player pitch the 9th. If you are down 10 runs you can have a position player pitch anytime. Ohtani is listed officially as a two way player
  6. If you’re going to a position player to pitch in the 6th, why not forfeit?
  7. Good question! I have no idea, but my point of reference is marathon training. I’m starting my taper now for a marathon in early October, that I started training for in April. 3-4 weeks lines up, but I’m not sure how comparable this really is, and just like an Il stint, every situation and athlete is different
  8. Yes, but Ober has obliterated his career innings record this season. Ryan is on track to exceed his innings record too even after his IL stint. Gray hasn’t been a workhorse. this team was going to need some reinforcements for the August slog, I’m ok with that being a guy you dont feel bad about DFAing when he’s not needed anymore.
  9. I’m still in the River in Egypt phase
  10. So disappointed for Buck. I can’t imagine what he’s going through! Gotta be brutal for such a competitive guy!
  11. To specify, they could have 60 day Il-Ed Miranda on 8/31 and added Stevenson to the 40 so he could be on the post season?
  12. It’s the journey, not the destination. I loved watching both World Series championships, but if hope doesn’t spring eternal, there’s no point.
  13. A batted ball can be more productive than a K. It can also be the same as a K, and less productive. Double plays usually happen on batted balls.
  14. Along this line, baseball is a sport filled with individual contributions, but is a team game. Ultimately how one player does is important, but how the team does is more important. Is it more impactful to team wins and scoring runs to have a homogeneous lineup in terms of skill/ability, or heterogeneous skill/ability?
  15. Correct, trade assignment waivers have been gone since 2019. No such thing as an August trade anymore. AZPhil of The Cub Reporter has a great MLB Roster Rule resource. https://www.thecubreporter.com/book/mlb-roster-rules-presented-arizona-phil-22
  16. They could come back for game 4 of the World Series I guess
  17. For non-contenders agreed. For contenders, the 40 man slots are a big deterrent though too, if the claims are post 9/1, you lose two 40 man spots.
  18. Sure, they could, but the claimed player can’t be on the post season roster. So you’d lose 2 spots on 40 man depth for the post season. The guy you claimed, and the guy you released to make room.
  19. No one is going to claim them Sept 1. If you aren’t making the post season you aren’t adding the cost. If you are making the post season, you don’t want to dilute your roster with players that can’t be on the playoff roster. in other words, a catch and release will cost you the salaries
