  1. https://www.thecubreporter.com/book/mlb-roster-rules-presented-arizona-phil-22 AZPhil has a good explainer on Waivers “If a player is claimed by only one club, that club is awarded the claim. If more than one club makes a claim, the club with the lowest winning percentage (regardless of league) either from the previous season (beginning on the day after the conclusion of the MLB regular season through the 30th day of the MLB regular season) or on the day the player clears waivers (beginning on the 31st day of the MLB regular season through the last day of the MLB regular season) is awarded the claim. If two clubs with the same winning percentage make a claim, the club in the player's own league is awarded the claim. If two clubs from the same league make a claim and they are tied in the standings, the club with the lowest winning percentage from the previous season is awarded the claim. If the clubs are still tied, standings from two years back (or three years back, four years back, etc) are used to break the tie.“ the current waiver period ends Aug 31.
  2. If you absolutely have to catch that 10:45 train, I’d take the green line. Parking is hard to get out. I usually park in the ABC ramps. Very slow to exit. Typically on my way back to Wisconsin, it takes 45 minutes to an hour to drive to downtown St. Paul. The only reason I don’t park in St Paul and ride the green line in, is the extra park time and cost of parking/train fare, but that’s not an issue for you.

  4. Please Tell me Funderburk’s walk up music is Thunderstruck by AC/DC You been… Funderstruck!
  5. Oliver Ortega got the 60 day, Ober was optioned
  6. Kinda surprised Jeffers didn’t stand in the box wearing his catcher chest protector
  7. With Royce active and productive, Jhoan Duran might be more important. If Correa goes on the IL, there’s options that can be very productive, including Royce & Farmer if Duran goes to the IL, I shudder to think who fills that gap…
  8. Lopez since joining the Marlins has an 8.39 ERA and a higher bb rate than k rate. Floro has a 7 ERA and a k rate twice his bb rate. the Twins have thus far won that trade, but it’s close
  9. I pray DK doesn’t make the post season roster. 2.08 K9 and 4.85 ERA doesnt exactly scream bullpen Ace to me.
  10. Their contract with Bally was always scheduled to end after this season. Diamond Sports/Bally bankruptcy wasn’t public (at least for us) until a couple weeks after the Twins signed Correa on his vastly reduced contract. (Jan 11 Correa contract, Jan 25 Bally). there’s more at stake for the league and the market with the bankruptcy. It removes a lot of leverage from the new broadcast rights negotiation when the incumbent is bankrupt. it removed a lot of leverage when dozens of teams will begin the same negotiation within a year or so.
  11. Correct, but the Market price of Carlos Correa today, is much lower than it was a year ago. the risk with hedging is prices go down too
  12. There is a chance that Correa has already gone the way of Buxton isnt it also short-sighted to lockup 60 million per year for 6 years on 3 players who can’t play anymore? part of the strategy must include attrition further, and it pains me to say this, but with the way Bally sports is going, the revenue part of the business plan for the majority of MLB teams is going to change, possibly reduce significantly. There may be a shift in player salaries accordingly and having too many players already locked in, could prove detrimental to the purpose of a hedge contract. A real life example in 2001 gas sold at retail under $2. There was a gas station in the town I went to college that sold gas on futures. When gas prices were forecasted to increase, their sales boomed. The generations older than me remembered the Iran led OPEC oil embargo of the US in the ‘70s. Prices skyrocketed when the US was in conflict with the Middle East. When it became known that the 9/11 highjackers were middle-eastern, many people hedged buying thousands of gallons still being offered at $2 price, at the Gas station offering gas on futures contracts. They were right, prices doubled in less than a week we were seeing $4 and $5 gas. What could be the problem? The gas station filed for bankruptcy when they went upside down on wholesale gas becoming more expensive than the retail price they sold it at. the hedgers bought thousands of dollars of nothing
  13. We’re talking about Royce “I’ve already had two ACL surgeries” Lewis? I can’t imagine Royce agreeing to the lowball offer that the Twins would float. Acuna was 3 years younger, never (before the signing) had an ACL surgery, let alone 2, and was far more successful. In 2018 Acuna played in 111 games and put up 4 WAR. Lewis has played a total of 46 mlb games with two extensive injuries and good rate stats, comparable to Acuna’s 2018, but half the games over twice the seasons. let’s see if Lewis can put up a 4 WAR 120 game season next year before locking up another hobbled player that might not last the length of the contract, let alone make it look like a good signing
  14. What do you love about it?
  15. Holy crap! I turned it off when Winder came in… I should have stuck with it, but then I would have jynxed it
  16. what a shame! https://www.mlb.com/news/shohei-ohtani-has-tear-in-ucl?partnerId=zh-20230824-1011726-mlb-1-A&qid=1026&utm_id=zh-20230824-1011726-mlb-1-A&bt_ee=L5Z0v8VRZ9Zl2dkDaKjVn4zHllnPqvvvWLBycyIc38dLJlj35t%2FlZWQjX6EcRW7E&bt_ts=1692880874719
  17. Hindsight is 20/20. What prospects are doing this year is not a fair way to grade a trade. https://www.ballysports.com/north/news/minnesota-twins-2022-mlb-trade-deadline-grades-mahle-fulmer-lopez This was published 8/3/22, and offered several writers grades on trades and the Twins’ deadline as a whole. Lots of As and Bs and Twins won the deadline.
  18. No way, luke warm take, at best. Probably closer to tepid
