  1. Great article and a good question - the answer right now is no - will the game change again, I hope so. The years I began to love the game we had Yogi Berra, Del Crandall, Sherm Lollar, Roy Campanella among others who caught and played most games - you depended upon them. Of course you bring back thoughts of the good old days and at the same time make a really good case for why Joe Mauer should be in the HOF. Our problem is that Jeffers, so far, is just not that good. With a poor arm and a poor bat he is nothing but a pitcher framer who plays catch and if they go to the electronic ball and strike call he his value drops again. I had great hopes for him and still think he might turn into what we had expected from his rookie year. I do not see the Twins going for Contreras, but in fact Catcher is nearly as important as SS.
  2. I know what you are saying, but when you finish 481 it really doesn't matter what you might have finished. We stunk and one player could not raise the sinking ship.
  3. Jeffers has disappointed since his rookie season and we need to see something change before he can be considered a starting catcher. I like Murphy, but the A's do not give their players away.
  4. I do not know the answer, but I wonder how many of these players will be on the Twins Roster in 2023 (at some point - not necessarily out of ST)? Julien breaking out reminds me of Miranda the year before. I hope all the young players are healthy this year and we get a real chance to see who the Twins are.
  5. It is interesting to me to see the Dodgers win all those regular season games, sign all those high priced free agents, and still they have been there twice in the last five years. and they have won once since the Twins last championship in 1991. Will Correa make the difference - he led us to a 481 pct. Not his fault, but baseball is complex. I do wonder what they do need. They have been there 3 times since 1991, but only won once. The wish lists and desires of fans aside, trying to make the right decisions are really difficult.
  6. Ryan is not the pitcher I worry about. Give him the ball and work on our other rookies.
  7. I would trade Emilio Pagan for a bag of used baseballs or a dead Ty Cobb. Never rule out a trade until you see the final results!
  8. I do not like trading Lee, just as I hated seeing us send our first rounder Chase Petty in a trade. At 19, in the Florida league - Daytona he had a 3.33 era in 18 games, 1.197WHIP, 8.9 Ks/9. He had the potential to become an ace. I do like the idea of getting Woodruff, if Milwaukee would take option 2, but would they? Winder could not replace Woodruff in the lineup. Rodriguez is hard to give up. And Milwaukee does not need a SS or RF. Interesting speculation
  9. I have no idea - I just want to have more young starts than mediocre veteran starts.
  10. I don't know - it takes 2 - 3 years in MLB before we have the ability to start making that judgment. An awful lot comes down to attitude. Some just have the mental strength to surpass physical assets.
  11. I like the Houston team - need to say it since there is still so much hate. Since the Twins were willing to take on Correa the talk of cheating should be in the past - I have great respect for Dusty Baker and hope he gets the series. But if he does Pressly will play a very significant role. Interesting that two top closers in the article are both former Twins. The most impactful trade is not in the article - it was the trade of raging cancer called Donaldson who let the Yankees down, created his normal level of frustration by behavior and mouth and not enough with his bat to make it acceptable. Character does matter. Gibson did not pitch well enough to really be a contributor - his 5.05 ERA takes him back to his Twins days and we are fine to be rid of him.
  12. All of these options are either old and ready to diminish in quality or they are injury prone. Let's start working on developing our own Ace. Give one of these a ridiculous one year contract like we did to Correa and see how the team shapes up.
  13. He is our best candidate to move. Better to move veterans like Polanco than the younger prospects. I think Polanco has peaked and he like so many Twins has too much injury history. But most of all, there are a lot of replacements that are good quality. If we want something good we have to give up something good. A position player like Polanco does not have the value to get a strong SP by himself, but in a package he can be the name that starts the discussion. He represents more than Kepler who was discussed in another entry.
  14. I am not sure what their strategy is, but even if the rotation is sound, 4 - 5 innings means we have half the game in the hands of the BP - every game! This has not worked and won't work. Time for a new strategy for both SP and BP.
  15. Like the others I want to redraw your Gray line - none of these pitchers move the bar. It is young pitchers or a trade! Odorizzi and Gibson on the list indicate how weak this FA crop really is. As I read your reviews so many had bad years, so many are questionable, and almost all of them are too old to expect a great rise in performance.
  16. That is a great recap. But luckily we have Winder, Ober, Ryan, Varland, Richardson on the team as the season ended, the question is which if them will get a good chance in the majors next year. Balazovic and Enlow are the two most disappointing. Is this a pipeline to A+ starters or to middle to end of the rotation arms? It will be interesting to see how it sorts out.
  17. There are some names in this article that really make me nervous - no to Kluber, for example. No to Clevinger, please. If we want to upgrade we may have to trade one of the pitchers we have plus something. I would think Maeda would be a perfect move quickly candidate.
  18. Not sure I see this years ranking matching this.
  19. Rortvedt and Curtiss should be in the injured list making 5 on that list. It is not a bad record, but reading the first entrees the pattern was that they regressed this year after a breakout last year - LaMonte Wade, Baddoo, Littell and Diaz. Why this trend? Overall it is a positive draft.
  20. All I can say to your question is - we could not win with a Superstar. It is about the team, not one individual.
  21. Moving the mistake called Donaldson was the plus and the reason the trade works. Signing Correa is a different issue no matter how people want to shuffle the dollars. Kiner Falefa would be the fill in SS this next year until Lewis is ready. Urshela was a definite plus, Sanchez is gone. Their combined salaries subtracted from Donaldson did not leave us a big surplus to sign anyone. Would our winning pct have changed with Donaldson or without Correa?
  22. The Astros got rid of Correa - maybe he was the guilty one. Anyway I am rooting for Astros because there has never been one of my 77 years where I could root for the Yankees.
  23. I love all the spend money responses - actually I just love all those who post to argue with me - but spending ridiculous money will never be something I support even if it is monopoly money - unless there is a get out of jail free card too.
  24. ONCE AGAIN WE SAY - GOLD GLOVE IS MEANINGLESS. RIDICULOUS.
