Hopefully we can get a decent return for Paddack at the deadline. Hopefully a AA or AAA SP with some potential. We desperately need a catcher too. Between Paddack, Bader and Castro I think we should be able to fill some of the holes in our roster for next year. If they do the deadline right of course, which is definitely not guaranteed :(

I hope they trade off all expiring contracts and get all the minor league talent they can. Then let a lot of these young guys play out the rest of the year, kind of like an audition for next year. See if Sabato is a legit option at first, see if Gonzalez, E Rodriguez and Martin look good enough for the majors, see if Eeles can replace Castro as our infield utility guy. I'd rather see Prelipp, Raya or Morris get a shot in the pen over Wentz ...that guy needs to go.

Simeon Woods Richardson Has A New Pitch
LambchoP replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He's looked much better lately. Hitting 96 on the radar gun, getting K's. I really think Rocco needs to take the leash off and let him go deeper into games. Last few starts he's been pulled after like 5 scoreless innings with only 50-60 something pitches thrown. He needs to be let loose if he's ever to improve and get better like we want him to. Destroying his confidence at what, 24 years old is awful management if you ask me.... -
Twins 8, Cubs 1: Ryan Jeffers, Twins Ambush Cubs
LambchoP replied to Steven Trefz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It's way past time to stop pulling him after 5 innings despite performing well or pitch count. How can he ever improve his stats third time through the lineup if he never has the chance? This has to be horrible for his confidence. Why are guys like Festa and Mathews allowed to go deeper but not SWR? If he's going to be one of our SP long term, it's time to let him pitch. Also, can we get rid of Wentz yet? I don't think I've seen him have a clean or scoreless inning since we got him. There HAS to be a better option somewhere in this organization. If not, that tells you our pitching pipeline is in serious trouble. Too bad we dumped Henriquez, the kid has looked amazing with MIA this year. We blew that one for sure....- 66 replies

Really great news that both Jenkins and Rodriguez are both healthy and productive. Let's keep it that way. 2 guys to be excited about, at least this year, are Culpeper and Gonzalez. Both are tearing it up in AAA and could move to St Paul by the end of the year. Eeles is another one to watch. While he may not hit for much power, he seems to have good hitting skills and can swipe bases. Could be a good table setter at the top of our lineup. Maybe we give him a shot at the utility position if Castro is traded? Maybe try out Sabato at first if we can unload France?

Simeon Woods Richardson Has A New Pitch
LambchoP replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Twins sure need him to establish himself as a legit SP. With Martin looking like a part time player, the Berrios trade isn't looking all that great. -
Do the Twins not have PFP or something? Most of our pitchers have looked like little leaguers trying to field their positions lol. Topa should never be out there in the 9th inning. Didn't like the pen management in this one. Winnable game for sure. Too many mental mistakes.

Great bunch of guys at AA having great seasons and are looking like they could make AAA by seasons end. Culpeper, Gonzalez, Rosario, Fedko and Olivar. Martin is hitting well in St Paul, he should take Keirsey's spot on the roster. Sabato could earn some playing time at first if France is traded. Anyone else think it's awesome that DeBarge already has like 43 steals in A+ ball this year? The only problem is, all this potential help coming in the next year or two is all position players. Our minor league pitchers have not had a good year for the most part. Maybe we can get some pitching talent at the deadline....

Week in Review: Something to Build On
LambchoP replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Not much we can do about Correa other than move him down in the lineup. If they can trade France I wouldn't mind a first base platoon of Clemens and Sabato. See if he has what it takes to be a starting, everyday first baseman. Then at least we'll know if we need another one for next year. Doesn't Bader have a team option for next year? That should be picked up. Guys like him, Buxton and Keaschal are what this team needs. High energy, fast athletic guys who play the game hard and actually seem to care about winning.- 36 replies

This isn't his first slump. We all know Wallner has major power, but the question is will he ever be able to produce anything other than the homers. His K rate is climbing sky high. He is a three true outcome guy with limited defense. With guys like Rodriguez, Gonzalez, Martin and Fedko coming up, I think Wallner will need to find a way to be a bit more consistent and make more contact or he could find himself losing starts. With our OF depth right now I wouldn't mind seeing what we can get for Wallner. Maybe another team is intrigued by his power and tears of control.....
-
Catcher is our weakest position. You don't trade from your worst position unless we get a return of catching which is unlikely. Vasquez is gone this year meaning we need to either acquire or sign a MLB caliber catcher to pair with Jeffers next year. If we traded Jeffers we'd be looking for two catchers next year because as the article states it doesn't look like we have any legit catching options in the minors ATM.....

Twins Trade Fiction: Imagining a Ryan-for-Duran Swap
LambchoP replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
No way, Ryan is one of our rotation anchors. We need to upgrade our pitching, not get rid of our number 1 or number 2 guy. If we were to trade a pitcher I'd go with Duran. We should be looking to upgrade at catcher and 1/3rd base. I think we have enough OF depth. Maybe Duran and Wallner/Larnach gets us next year's catcher and a SP prospect. We should definitely be able to get some return for all our expiring contracts like Castro Paddack Coloumbe Bader France and Vasquez.....- 14 replies

Hopefully we can get some kind of value from trading away Castro, Bader, France, Vasquez, Paddack, and Coloumbe. We need better SP depth in AAA. We also need a catcher and first baseman. It'll be a serious disappointment if the Twins sit out another deadline and do nothing. Letting all these guys walk and getting nothing in return would be pure stupidity but I wouldn't be surprised. They'll pick up a released reliever off the waiver wire and give us the typical " with Lopez, Ober, Mathews and Keaschal all returning in the second half, we feel we have a real chance to make a deep playoff run"......
-
Loved the bunting there. Twins need to do this more, especially when struggling to score runs. I've been pretty impressed with what I've seen from Clemens. Kids got some real power and most of his HR have come in game changing moments. His defense seems passable at second and RF as well. I wonder how they keep his bat in the lineup when Keaschal returns. Of course it'll be a lot easier if Castro is traded.

Not sure how I feel about this new way of handling these young arms. Having them try to be hybrid guys, throwing 3-4 innings every few days. Wouldn't it be better to get guys on a true starters routine, at least the few arms we know we want to develop as starting pitchers? McLeod and Klein are both pitching well. Hill looks to be a K machine. Both him and Prelipp. If Prelipp and Hill can lower the walk rate, go a bit deeper into games we could find them both in the rotation in a few years, bringing back memories of Santana and Liriano ;)

Correa being one of the highest paid players in the entire game and one of our team leaders should inspire confidence. These are the guys you want to come up with RISP and in big game situations. All this year, whenever Correa comes to bat in a big moment, I let out a defeated sigh, and then watch him strikeouts or weakly ground out to short like he does so often. Twins need to find a way to get him right or he will be hurting this team with that contract for at least the next 4 years....

I would also much rather see Martin up instead of Keirsey. Martin can do all the things Keirsey can but would also be a better hitter. Keirsey is an automatic out and has not even been that great of a base stealer despite his speed.

I think if Royce Lewis can start hitting again, maybe they could try him at 1b starting next year which would open 3rd base for Lee who is better defensively. I would rather they trade for or go out and sign a power hitting true first baseman but we all know that won't happen. Maybe if France is traded at the deadline they can give Julien or Saboto a shot. Why not let some of the kids get a chance, seasons basically over anyways.

Gabriel Gonzalez is Back on the Prospect Map
LambchoP replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Glad to see some of our position player prospects having great years. Mccusker, Eeles, Gonzalez, Culpeper, DeBarge and Fedko. This anemic team needs an injection of offense. We need a true long term first baseman and some catching help, Vasquez is almost gone and Jeffers doesn't look good lately. Those are our biggest issues, but upgrading the offense no matter where it is needs to be a priority. -
This list tells me we really need to try and acquire some upper minors pitching at the trade deadline. Specifically guys we think can be starters and throw more than 3 innings. The guys that were supposed to be at the top of our SP depth like Morris, Lewis, Raya... they're all getting ROCKED :(

Castro should be a solid trade chip. Would be great if we could get a projectable SP in AA or even AAA. Maybe a SP a little further away and a AA catcher, something like that. I think trading Castro and Duran should nab us some interesting pitching prospects and hopefully a catcher we can pair with Jeffers next year.
