  1. Watching him makes me even more excited for next year. The Twins finally have developed depth beyond the major league roster to supplement that roster when needed. I can not remember the last time we could have at AAA at the start of year players like Wallner, Winder, Varland, Moran, Woods Richardson. I am sure I missed some and there will be others who won't make the major league roster.
  2. Henriquez deserves his chance at the MLB level for the rest of the year. More than likely he spends next year in the minors. Putting a rating on young pitchers is easy to do. Their development is fluid from year to year. Many top prospects don't make it and some come out of nowhere. Having as many young talented arms at AAA is a great asset. That is what we will have next year and they will sort themselves out there or in the majors. Henriquez is among those talented arms.
  3. Rating prospects is a crapshoot. Some of the best fail and some of the under rated make it in the big league. He deserve his chance - let his performance tell his story.
  4. What needs to be done to get Jorge Lopez back to first half form? Is that possible?
  5. Once again this points to the fickle nature of relief pitching. Very few bullpen arms can be relied for multiple years. There are ups and downs. Pretty sure the Twin's FO feels the same way that is why they don't spend money on it. The price we paid for Lopez was relatively cheap so I will take the next 2 years plus what remains of this year gladly. No complaints here. He has helped stabilize the part of the team that needed the most help. Is he perfect? No he is a baseball pitcher just learning the art of closing games in a divisional race. If there is any fault it is that he gets way too amped up in these situations. That has got him in a few hitter's counts with his control and also I think the movement has flattened out a bit on some of his pitches. I am glad the Twin's brought him here and look forward to 2 more years of Jorge Lopez.
  6. This is not the first or second time this year Gordon has made an out at 3B on a base running mistake. Rocco better be lying if he said he did not talk to Gordon. Any manager who is any good at his job would have some sort of conversation with the player. That is the big thing lacking with this team...baseball IQ. We are not good at situational baseball and that is the manager's responsibility. Yes he is a good company man (follows the front office) and lets his players do their thing but that won't win games in October and the only division it might win would be the AL Central.
  7. Do not understand him. Tonight he brings Archer back for the 5th inning after getting hit hard in previous inning. Most every game Archer goes 4. Had to bring a reliever into a messy inning and gave up the lead. Thielbar can only save so many innings for the guy. Give him a clean slate to work with and go from there. Would love to hear the explanation on that.
  8. From where the Twins have come, how can you say we may have too much pitching?
  9. With all the doom and gloom just a reminder. If you told a Twin's fan in January you would be in first place on August 1 they would be jumping up and down with joy. Let's have fun watching seeing where this is going.
  10. Duffy looks and pitches scared in high leverage situations. Too much nibbling and not enough going after the batter. He needs to be a 6th inning guy no matter how good he pitches in those situations. How many more chances does he get in high leverage situations. How many more games is Rocco going to allow him to lose? We are trying to win our division I think.
  11. If we are ever going to go somewhere in post season play we have to be average or above average in the other apsects of the game. Baserunning is one of those things along with bunting, hitting behind and/or advancing the runner, taking the extra base when it is there, hitting and running, stealing bases and getting the runner in from third with less than 2 outs. See the Houston Astros as a prime example.
  12. This kid grew up in my area. If he stays healthy the Twins have a good one here.
  13. The FO needs to get better in the bullpen. Start by adding Winder. He can piggyback Archer or Bundy abd take a lot of stress off the bullpen those days. Maybe Ober can help bullpen also. If they keep the same 5 starters our bullpen just got a lot better with those 2 additions.
  14. Why can't we use Josh Winder in the bullpen? Why is he pitching meaningless innings in AAA?
  15. We can not continue to waste good starting pitching if our goal is to win the division. We need the best pitchers we have in the bullpen as there are only 8. You can not hide arms there. We need to improve the pen either through trade or our system. My suggestion is to put Winder in the pen - he has proven himself by the results he has got starting. In the pen he can pitch multiple innings in a close game like Duran. That should also limit his innings for the year. We are leading the division now is the time to make changes not wait for the other 2 teams to catch us.
  16. Until Rocco changes his managing style we won't win close games or important playoff games. He manages like it is a softball game...go up their boys and swing away. We seldom ever manufacture a run. Steal, hit and run, hit behind the runner or advance the runner with a bunt are hardly if ever used. The Astros are an example of a team that uses these resources plus some aggressive baserunning to win games. So are we resigned to lose a game if we don't get double digit hits and score less than 3 runs? Is that the only way we can win? I wish that weren't the case but it seems to be showing a pattern. Rocco you can do this!!
  17. Stop a losing streak or give the bullpen a much needed breather. Devin Smeltzer is your man. Where would we be without him. If he continues to pitch like this he better not end up back in AAA when all the SP is healthy. Come on Rocco you should have given him a chance to go 7...he had an easy 6th inning. This management handles SP like they are expensive china and give everyday players too many days off. For what to prevent injury - look at our injury report. Try something different management...you may find there is more than 1 way.
  18. More to baseball than hitting and pitching. Failure to hold runners close to the base, dropped pop up, errors on throws, our guys botching up their base running. Last night's game looked all too familar - see 2021 season. Even if we make the playoffs we are doomed. Look at the Yankee and Astro games this year (1-5). These failures are on the manager. Hopefully this is a one time thing but it can't continue.
  19. If your bullpen options are limited as our options are...why not take a chance with your SP who has better stats than most of our bullpen?
  20. Please explain to me why Smeltzer gets a quick hook and Duffy stays in too long.
  21. If this FO is committed to winning this division Smeltzer has to be in the rotation based on results and pitching deep into games. Archer needs to go to bullpen in long relief. When everyone is healthy a 6 man rotation would be great. It becomes a question of who Rocco and the FO are committed to... 2 over the hill free agents or talented young pitchers who need the experience and development and are giving you results.
  22. Everyone (including me) who thought he should not make this team in the spring raise your hand and be counted.
  23. The Astro series taught us that the real elite teams work the count, take their walks, can bunt and play small ball when needed. Good to see the Twins putting more emphasis on that. It makes a difference in big games and the playoffs.
  24. Feel like Jax is progressing and has the potential to be an effective 1 inning guy out of bullpen. Uptick in velocity and progression of his slider make him a better long term choice than Duffy.
  25. Agree the bullpen is a mess. I also agree that Rocco doesn't trust the young arm in high leverage situations versus having an experienced player pitch the inning. "Stuff" plays in the big leagues... see Duran's example. Who was the guy KC pitched in the 7th that shut us down? He was in that situation because of his "stuff". We have better pitchers for the bullpen in St. Paul. Get them up here who cares if we lose a pitcher to waivers in the process. Have Winder and Smeltzer piggy back. There is no rule that you can piggy back the 6,7 and 8th innings or just the 6th and 7th. For as creative this organization thinks it is lets see some of that on game night.
