Way too early to be excited about any success(pitching and being 11-8). Also way too early to dwell on how poor the hitting and run scoring are. Check back at the end of May and you will be able to draw your conclusions on a bigger sample size. Something tells me our pitching won't be as good as it looks now and our hitting will be better(warm weather and addition of Polanco to lineup). Right now enjoy being in first place with 10 days to go in our most diffcult month schedule wise.

What Happens when Polanco and Kirilloff Return?
miller761 replied to Hans Birkeland's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Another option is a trade. Could trade Max given his contract situation and organizational depth behind him. More than likely he will be gone at end of season anyway so a marginal prospect in return would be great. -
Reviewing the Tyler Mahle Trade
miller761 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Most deadline trades do not grade out well for the team acquiring the major league talent (in this case Mahle). It is a risk the acquiring team makes to get them into playoffs and win a championship. Sometimes they work great and sometimes not so good. I applaud the front office for taking the chance and also for their moves this off season. They are trying any way possible to get this team to win the division and go far in the playoffs. The FO traded from its surplus knowing they other good players coming who may even be better that the ones they traded away.- 57 replies

Twins 2023 Position Analysis: Designated Hitter
miller761 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Very concerned about Polanco. Saw him in Fort Myers with a slight limp not taking part in infield practice. Does Royce Lewis play 2nd base? Is he the long term fallback option there?- 21 replies

Rumor: Falvey says "Bullpen not a priority"
miller761 replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
There are a fair amount of bullpen arms out there unsigned. Pretty sure the FO is playing the waiting game for a great bargain. -
Wouldn't a final bullpen spot be good for a reliever who can throw multiple innings? Maybe a starting pitcher who does not make the rotation. He can then piggyback a short start without using multiple bullpen arms. He could do this 3 times in a 2 week period saving a lot of bullpen appearances.

The Twins Forgotten Center Fielder
miller761 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Maturation is the key word. It takes more than physical ability to play at the major league level. He has been delivered a wake up call. Now it is up to him what he does with it. Here is hoping he makes the best of it in St. Paul. -
The Twins Need to be Realistic With Max Kepler
miller761 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Let the playing field decide what action or non action needs to be taken. Even by his not so pretty 2022 stats he is economically priced as far as payroll and value are concerned, There is a chance he rebounds with the new rules and even swipes some bags. If that happens you have a valuable piece going forward whether on the field or to trade. If he stays at 2022 levels on the field you still have the same value at the trade deadline as you have now. My hope and prediction is that he finally gets it and adjusts launch angle on his swing and we will enjoy watching him play for the Twins this year.- 69 replies

This is no guarantee for success but I certainly like where this roster is compared to last year even at the end of spring training when the additions were made. If the above article is correct in outlining the FO strategy I am very optimistic about this season and the ones to come. Now comes the fun part - playing the games.

Who Will Be the Twins' Opening Day DH?
miller761 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Crazy to even think about trading Miranda. This kid will work his butt off to improve defense and will get it done. He can also play first base. the Twins need to keep trying to get more athletic. Their base running, base stealing and defense must improve. We need more guys like Miranda not getting rid of them.- 60 replies

This is why you wait until the offseason is over to criticize the FO. And there is probably more to come.

Not saying he is a SS. But remember Derek Jeter"s first season in the minors. This kid is an athlete who can hit. take a walk and steal bases. Oh and he hits right handed. They will find a position for him, he will work at it and become MLB adequate or better.

Three Free Agent Outfield Upgrades for the Twins
miller761 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
An outfield of Gallo, Buxton and Kepler against right handed pitching looks good to me. Great defense, athletic and good speed on the basepaths. Everyone picks apart Gallo's numbers but the fact is his career numbers at Target Field are good. Will that translate to a full season remains to be seen but he also can be flipped at the trade deadline. The 2 biggest causes of our collapse were blown saves and depth last year. So what if Larnach or any other younger player has to start the season in the minor leagues. Those are decisions all good clubs have to make. Let the FO do their job and we can judge them at the end of the season. To do that now or say they should have done this or that does not carry any weight at present time.- 32 replies

I am judging the FO by how we adjust to the new rule changes. Everything starts there and is followed through on the field. If we continue to play station to station baseball with poor execution on hit and run, bunting, hitting behind runners and base stealing then Target Field will have a further reduction in attendance. There is no excuse everything is on time this year and spring training will be normal. TK made sure there was attention to detail on even the smallest things. It is up to FO to demand that and Rocco to get it done.

Minnesota Adds Farmer to Infield Mix
miller761 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Decent right handed bat who has versatility and can also play catcher in an emergency. Great addition to our team. No problem finding playing time for him even if we add a top 4 SS. There is more to a MLB team than just marque players. -
Rocco needs to get his nose out of his sheet of paper and trust his instincts. A robot could do his job the way he approaches it. The paper tells you what to do and when to do it. Use that sheet of paper but also use your baseball instincts to make your decisions. Don't be afraid to take a player out of a certain role if he is not performing. Don't be afraid to lose your player's manager reputation. Baseball like life is fluid and ever changing. Our manager's approach should be the same.

The One That Got Away from the Twins Bullpen
miller761 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Pressly would have been gone after 2019 or traded at that deadline cause we wouldn't have paid. Don't think that was that bad of trade in fact it might turn out to be a good trade. -
I would not give up on Pagan. If wrong he has only cost you 2.5 million. His stuff and late season performance warrant another look. Many a relief pitcher has put up good to great numbers after a terrible or mediocre season. Of course many have fallen after a good or great season. The point is this: bullpen arms are very volatile in terms of results. Pagan is worth the chance again considering his stuff.

Twins Trade Candidate: Austin Martin
miller761 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Twins need more players like Martin. See the Houston Astros. Future is not base to base unless you hit a homer run. Starting next year players like Martin will be more valuable as the game is shifting. Hit and run, base stealing, running the bases first to third and first to home and making contact will be trademark of successful teams. -
