Walks and hit batters have to be unacceptable for this current teams. Catching the balls you are supposed to is a close second. Make teams hit to beat you don't give them extra outs and baserunners. This Twins team can be an 80 win team but the 2 things I mentioned above must be executed. We have 2 other shortstops on current roster and Royce is coming back. Sit Lee or send him down and give the other 2 a good look, Send down or sit Wallner if there are players producing at AAA. If a player has no track record of success why do the Twins stick with said player. Tom Kelly expected a player to make the plays expected of them...not the great plays they are a bonus. I had hoped Shelton would be different than Rocco in this area. We are 20 games in to the season with an off day tomorrow before the road trip. Time for Shelton to make some changes with shortstop, right field and in the bullpen.

Love how Shelton uses his bullpen. Relievers coming back out for an extra out or inning.

Is Bailey Ober Behind Schedule This Spring?
miller761 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
How about Ober in the bullpen? -
Martin has earned the right to play everyday!! Let the kid go and see what happens. Also Roden needs to play everyday against right handed pitching. Larnach should be traded for a right handed relief pitcher. Wallner plays if he produces. Martin and Roden can add speed and athleticism to the team. We need more of that.

How can anyone in the Twin's front office leave Austin Martin off the opening day roster with what he did last year? If anything he has earned the right to play everyday until he proves he can't hit right handed pitching. Outman, Kreidler and Wagaman are AAAA ball players at best. Much rather see a young player thrown into the mix than waster at bats on these guys.

I thought Roden can play CF also. If that is the case there is absolutely no reason for Outman to be on the team. We have 3 young rookie outfielders of which any of the 3 could hit better than Outman right now. I for one will be watching these 3 last roster spots closely. Outman was Falvey's trade. Zoll should have no reason to keep Outman around. I think Larnach gets trade at the end of spring training and we pick up a player who makes our team as a back up infielder.

If Rojas doesn't make it as a starter he will be effective in the bullpen. That would make the trade even. If Roden becomes a regular major league outfielder the trade becomes a good trade. If Rojas a #3 starter and Roden makes it as an outfielder it becomes a great trade. Respectfully I don't think Varland becomes more that a setup man in the pen. Looking forward to see how this works out.

He certainly deserves this season before making any judgements. Give him 1200 AB's. In baseball you have to make adjustments and work to strengthen your weak areas. Am always excited to see if there any positive results to those players who work on that in off season. You can call me a "homer" but I am looking forward to see what Brooks Lee, Matt Wallner and Royce Lewis can accomplish this year.

I am curious what effect LaTroy Hawkins has on this group. I am hoping we are pleasantly surprised. From his broadcasts I liked his honestly and forwardness. I hope that translates well.

Why the Twins Shouldn't Replace Pablo Lopez
miller761 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Follow Milwaukee's blueprint. They are consistently in the playoffs in a small market like the Twins with a similar payroll. They get rid of most players as they approach free agency and take younger players in return. They then blend the younger players into the MLB team each year. They are always a young, athletic, good fundamentally and a very sound defensive team. You don't need a team of stars, you need a team of baseball players. Milwaukee has shown it can be done and how. The Twins just need to be copycats.- 39 replies

Report From The Fort: Five Spring Training Tells
miller761 replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Again I will state Tom Kelly's mission statement. Make all the plays you are supposed to make. We make much too much fuss about great range or a great arm. In baseball if you make all the regular plays you will win more games than you lose. If Shelton preaches that the Twins will not be all the doom and gloom everyone is forecasting. -
Report From The Fort: Intentional From The Start
miller761 replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If I am the manager I would have TK at spring training everyday he wants to attend. I am old enough to remember TK's teams and their fundamentals. You very seldom saw a throw to a wrong base or an overthrow of a cutoff man. If there was a physical or mental mistake there was nothing done at the time of mistake. But it was taken care of behind the playing field and in some cases the player was not in lineup next day. Under Rocco it was very hard to watch sometimes. Baseball is a game where the most talented team may not win on a given day. a kind bounce here, a mistake at a bad time by the other team can give an inferior team a win. This happens more often than you think during a season and can make a big difference in how much success a team has. I look forward to a season when I see a Twins team bunt, move runners over, get a runner in from 3rd with less than 2 outs, make the correct throws in the field and just make all the normal plays for your position. If Shelton can accomplish that fans will start showing up again because we are winning mor than we are losing. -
Roden has to stick with the big league club. Pass or fail. I can name 3 outfielders who will need to play everyday in St. Paul. It is those 3's turn this year and next year. If guys like Outman and Roden aren't producing it is time to send them packing so they aren't blocking the way.

The Twins Are Waiting On an Offer They Can’t Refuse
miller761 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't know why we keep talking about getting KFA for $5 mil. Spend that money on the bullpen. He is just another mediocre MLB player. We have enough of them already.- 71 replies
