  1. I will preach in every format here that Polanco should be the everyday DH. Switch hitter with ongoing injury issues. Plug him in at the 3 spot and play. Imagine if he could play 155 games. We have a ton of options at 2B. This is just too logical...
  2. I will stay consistent in my belief that Polanco should be our full time DH. His bat is too important to this team to have him dinged up for a third of the season. I also think that Nick Gordon has "earned" the right to have a shot at a full time gig. Yes he is a valuable utility guy but we have a ton of Utility guys.. Castro.. Solano...Let the guy play. Some would question his defense but I do think that given a shot to play everyday at the SAME position it would improve a ton. The guy has just played great given the opportunity.. Let's see what he's got while ensuring that Polanco's bat stays in the lineup.
  3. I would trade Lee, Raya and others in a heartbeat for Burnes IF he would sign an extension for say 4 years. Otherwise just can't go there.
  4. So... if you are worth 30 million on the market or more... and they go to arbitration over 700 K while making 10 million and are underpaid by nearly 20 million... So, if you at your job is worth 30 dollars an hour and they offer you 10 dollar and hour but would settle for 11 dollars an our and they go to court (arbitrator) to get that dollar... ridiculous and REALLY dumb of the Brewers.
  5. Head scratcher... With all of our infield options why add another. As stated... me thinks something is up...
  6. Maeta will be the 5th starter... more about getting his trade value up than anything. Will be teams lined up by June for him if he can show that he is healthy and effective. Rays .. I mean the Twins way of getting guys for reasonable contracts and them flipping them for value. I believe that Sonny and Mahle will be in the same boat and there is a good chance that we Will move at least 2 of them depending on health of the rotation. Makes little sense letting them go for nothing unless we are "killing it".
  7. Our BIGGEST addition may be our new trainer... If we have the ability to keep players of the DL we could be pretty good.
  8. My hope is that he pitches well in spring training and somebody wants him and we move him for something with any kind of value. We all... knowing it or not will start turning off the TV or Radio when he comes in as can't take the implosion that is on its way!!
  9. Megill is bad? Um Pagan is Horrible. Would be glad to see both not on our roster and bring some of the good young arms up and get them experience. Have a distinct feeling that Maeta will be moved to a pitching starved team.. and there will be many!!
  10. I would expect that he start at AAA as the starting 1B to get his reps in. If he can be decent and special K doesn't get it done.. we should see him there..
  11. Have posted several spots but do believe that Polanco should be the everyday DH. Give Gordon a shot at the everyday 2B. Know he has been under par so far but playing a position once a week or 10 days is fairly impossible. Let him play every day there and see what he can do... if he shows after a time, he can't do it .. am sure Farmer can do it. Polanco staying healthy is VERY important. One of those two ought to be to handle it...
  12. I have said this in other posts but the Twins NEED to make him the full time DH. Great way to keep his bat in the lineup and keep him healthy. We have MANY options for middle infielders that would work.. Being a switch hitter no need to take his bat out.... just makes too much sense... at least to me.
  13. Wish we would have kept Gio.. but I understand the reasoning. LONG way to go before opening day so saying "as of today" is kind of irrelevant. This team will have 4-5 different guys on the 40 before opening day...
  14. Really haven't heard much about either guy so not sure I really have an opinion.. I would much rather go after a lefty that could help even out our bullpen... Keegen Akin to me would be the target. Likely would have to add a bit to Kepler but think it would be much more of an improvement to the bullpen than either mentioned. We have arms in the minors that would equal both but not much around that matches Akin.. Just my take.
  15. I hope he does well... I really do... but He has more strikeouts that hits, runs, and RBI .... combined. Career .199 hitter... YUCK!!
  16. Yikes! Not sure what else to say. I was one of the masses that were pissed when we heard of the pick up. Getting a player that Plays very good defense and hits home runs but KILLS our team in every other way... WOW. Given our logjam in the OF with Lefthanded bats.. Makes ZERO sense... Signing him for a 2-3 million dollar deal with 8 million in incentives ... fine... but throwing 11 million at a player that is a bench player "IF" he makes the team... YIKES!!
  17. Reynalds is good but not a star... Mind you I like him and understand the Pirates spot of getting a haul but Pass at that cost. Kepler, Celestino, Martin and Winder ... Let it rip... Twins want Gray and Maeta to pitch to improve their trade value... will be gone by the deadline weather we are in the race or not. We have too many guys waiting in the wings that are pretty close in what they would produce. They might even get a good offer coming out of spring training for a team looking for a starter without having to pay huge.. I am in the camp that they are going to give Kiriloff every chance to be the everyday 1B as he clearly has the talent but health has always been an issue. I also think that Polanco should be the everyday DH.. Switch hitter... keeps him healthy and bat in the lineup. Give Gordon the chance to be the everyday 2B and if he drops the ball we have Farmer there and Lewis should be ready by midseason. OF is another story.... There will be some movement before the season starts... who.. that is another story..
  18. This is the most OBVIOUS issue in our bullpen. Baldelli and the FO again looking at numbers instead of looking at the mindset of pitchers and KNOWING what their roll is... Duran should be the closer... period. Then set up the RH setup guy and a LH setup guy .... next in line and so on. Guys knowing their rolls and being ready mentally and physically for the job is completely lacking at this point. WASTING a pretty good bullpen by trying to get smarter than smart. ARGH
  19. They should include... fundamentals by the players and the manager! We have lost our way or should I say the "Twins Way" with sound fundaments including Baserunning, situational hitting, fielding and managerial fundamentals of how to use a pitching staff!! Mr. Falvey... please address these as THESE are why we have been going the wrong direction. Thank you... Twins Fans.
  20. I would be good with that... not sure the Twins would move Lopez in the deal but not sure why not as Rocco and our pitching coach had no idea how to run the bullpen last year.... I REALLY like Lozaro. I do think he could have ace stuff... and young. Would be nice if we could somehow move either Sonny or Maeta in a deal for an quality asset but am guessing they are going to put them in the rotation and "cash in" at the trade deadline with teams needing starting pitching. Right now the market for them is not great... come mid summer... they will have very good value...
  21. My understanding when the new FO was put in place is we were going to try to build our pitching from within ala Cleveland. We have some guys that have had success and have some pretty good stuff. Ober has shown that he can not only pitch but pitch well at this level. At some point we have to let these guys move into rotation spots. Are they aces ... maybe not but.. maybe if given the opportunity. I do like Gallan and Burnes but is going to take a TON to get those guys.
  22. I do think that is worth discussing... which was my point.. We have options at 2B to use and let Polanco DH against RHP and let Buxton do the left handers as a Rule for a day off. I think it is time for Gordan to earn an everyday job or share with Farmer and let Polanco keep his health. An occasional start here and there as needed but losing Polanco's bat hurts WAY more than his glove at 2B.
  23. 4 hours ago, specialiststeve said: You somehow .. completely missed my point.. If all we are talking about is opening day what is the point of the article? I was talking for the "bulk" of the season. We NEED both of these guys healthy in order to compete at a high level. I playing 3/ 4 days a week in the field and the other part DH "should" keeps them healthy enough to play 150 games... would not that help this team win... I think so. If all we are talking about is opening day... respectfully who cares.
  24. Kinda stunned you missed the obvious.. Polanco and Buxton... Both should share the DH Roll as both have ongoing physical issues. Want to keep their bats in the line up while keeping them hopefully healthy.. this would be the best way.
  25. Not happening .. nor it should. We have too many options for 1st.
