  1. Bingo.... the fit is pretty much perfect. Hopefully our FO sees it like we do. As much as Mathew talked about his bat ... his improved defense at SS will be the big get.... as well as his veteran presence. Please..... let it happen...
  2. My choices would be to get Didi for a 2 year deal... very good defense and good offense... Simion "could" be a good bat but his defense is suspect. Simmons defense is great but offensively is not much to write home about. split the difference. Polanco goes to utility guy and has a better shot at staying healthy and productive. Cruz likely would like to come back ... if can figure it out fine. If not Brantley would be a great second choice and can step in - in the OF occasionally if needed. Pitching is the key here. Am still holding out for Gray out of Cincy but may settle for Gray out of Colorado in a trade. If going FA I would still like T. Walker as still fairly young and still has some good upside. At the 4/5 starter would be a good bet. We have been tied to several bigger name FA relievers and am still thinking the Twins will spend here as the value of a good bullpen in the modern game is huge. Hoping for one of Rosenthal or Colome. Others are out there and this "may" be the most important "get" .. Not sexy but huge in importance.... probably should have noted in the article....
  3. Guys you need to get off that trade site it is not in the ballpark with their values.... Polanco and Story pretty much the same value... junk it...
  4. Marquez will be a FA in 23 so only 2 more years of control.... There is ZERO shot the Twin's offer Lewis and Kiriloff let alone Arraez.. you would think that Marquez would be the best pitcher in Baseball... He is a good pitcher... But not a superstar....
  5. Nice cheap reliever... as stated an addition of a cutter may be good for him...
  6. I'd be fine with Arietta on a one year incentive laden deal. 5 mil + 5 mil in incentives... Marquez would NOT come cheap .... they would want some high end prospects. Gray would likely come a ton cheaper... I would go for Gray for a couple mid tier prospects... Marquez would take a couple high tier ... for 2 years of arbitration eligible paydays. Not sure ... would depend on the prospects wanted...
  7. Great article.. checking he FA reliever list takes a while and there are MANY good options.... overspending is NOT needed. If one of the top arms agrees to below market... fine otherwise wait and will get 80/90 percent of the production for a cost much less from a similar arm...
  8. Am fine with it... with his injury history....
  9. Pass at 9-15 million. Too old and to beat up for that kind of money. Many different options out there.... to go there. If half that am good with... 4-7 million.... per....
  10. Always interesting.... Wish they would make them wait until they were 18 and combine with the minor league draft.... that way all the teams would have an equal shot at the players....
  11. We are good. The White Sox have had a nice offseason but there are still 80% of the FA still needing homes. We have great internal options so throwing money around would be stupid at this point. Lots of options for relief pitching ... we will snag a few ... Starters are a bit more of an issue... I would guess we make a trade for a quality SP or find a nice retread to fill the 4/5 spot. We have 2 top of the rotation type pitchers right around the corner... one will make his debut for sure. Don't panic. We are STILL the team to beat. White Sox are right there but still are on the outside looking in.
  12. A nice signing for the White Sox for sure but.. Handing out that kind of money for him was a HUGE overspend. Relievers are a dime a dozen and rarely have these worked out well. We had the 2nd best relief corp in the majors last year and there are a TON of relievers out there that need jobs that are 80-90% of what he is. We are good. White Sox clearly have made some very nice upgrades and they AND the Twins are the co-favorites to win the division. We are still good. We will make some more moves to "catch up".... be patient.
  13. Cruz and the Twins are waiting to see about the DL in the NL.... if it does go... Cruz will have many suitors and likely will not be back... if it is a no go we can go with a 2 year deal with a mutual option on year two.... at a reasonable price. We have other in house options if he does not return as well as a ton of FA that will be looking for jobs. More importantly we need to secure a SS and let Polanco be our super utility guy. Best for him and best for the team. Also have to work on one more starter and 3-4 more relief pitchers. We are in a VERY good spot so we should all relax and let our FO continue to do a great job. Patience at this point is in the Twins favor....
  14. I know that there has been lots of speculation of Baez, Bryant and Story.... All will be FA after this summer... Don't see that we would do any of these unless they agree to a deal ... as well as giving up quality assets for one year of any of these? With our SS of the future at the doorstep... can't see it. Would be smarter to add one of the FA SS to a 2 year deal... Can give Lewis a little more seasoning and not guy our system that is very strong. As far as the pitching trade possibilities I would be for any of the Castillo, Sonny Gray or Musgrave ... depending on the cost. Again we have studs coming up.. DO NOT overpay. As far as Jon Gray I would be very good with getting him for a minor leaguer that is not high on our minor league list as again he will be a FA at the end of the summer.... Trades are fine but we really don't "need" to go that route unless the price is right as we have a very good core and very good young talent coming up.... patience... patience.... patience....
  15. Would be a very good low risk high reward type pitcher. Could see him also as a relief pitcher if can't get his stuff together enough for a starter... big arm ... a TON of these type guys out there so why not.
  16. Can't believe Arenado or Marquez are going anywhere unless we drain our minor league system.... Gray on the other hand likely could be had and would be a good comeback project.
  17. Long and short of this is that we need to keep on working on developing pitching in our minor league system.. 1st round through 20th but developing "our own" is the long term answer to being a contender every year... look at the Dodgers and Rays... We have several top of rotation guys right around the corner and others coming up with great promise... Don't panic... Stay the course.
  18. Agree that there are moves to be made.... Don't agree that we need to be in a hurry.... Lots of talent out there that can be had. Waiting and having patience is hard but getting the best value comes with patience. We need to "think" Tampa Bay. We want to be making value deals... and that is what will keep us on top. Zero chance we land Bauer... So stop thinking that direction as you are setting yourself up to be disappointed. Plenty of time to make deals ... like most teams we are waiting for the market to be set while getting low risk deals that have great value. Understand that we did that and had the second best era in the AL... believe we will be top 5 again. Patience... patience.... patience....
  19. Agree completely. Polanco would be best served as the super utility guy at this point. Can play SS, 3B and 2B.. we have enough OF depth so that should not be a need. Pick up Didi, Simmons before Simion if it were me as Simion has the least talent on defense... Guessing both Didi and Simmons could be had on a 2 year deal ... give time for our stud to grow up a little more....
  20. Sano and Polanco for Baez and Bryant Sano and Baez are basically same financially with both being FA in 22.... Sano gets another shot at 3B in Chicago... Polanco takes over at SS at a lower price that the Cubs are clearly looking for... Bryant takes over at 1st... and a shot at returning to stud production... Baez takes over at SS.... If we need to add a couple 2nd tier minor leaguers ... okay... Cost a bit but the upside is HUGE...
  21. Look at what Johnson has done with some retreds... was the 2nd best bullpen in the MLB.... Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore - Johnson.... I think that is his real name.....
  22. Yah... why would we want the cy young runner up when we could have had a reliever with ongoing arm issues... Maeda was the best trade we have made in a LONG time!
  23. Would definitely be interesting... I would be good with Polanco going to utility guy... his health continues to hold him back. If he could play 4-5 days a week I think his production would improve.
  24. Actually you need a stronger arm at SS than you do at 3B so ..... he would be fine there. I do still like the getting a Didi type player for 2 years and as you say seeing if we could package Arraez for pitching. Like him a lot but limited on defense... no power .. no speed... to run production...
