Stewart has looked good during his last 3 outings and has not given up a run this year so was a little surprised he was pulled after throwing only 9 pitches. RP Lopez started strong, but has not pitched as well during his last 3 outings so I am getting concerned when they bring. Pagan has been pitching well his last 3 outings so it appears he is ready to help the Twins.

Byron Buxton Making One Dimensional Work
John Belinski replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I just don't think that Buxton can sit on the bench for 2 innings and then be a good hitter. Just sitting around for up to 15 minutes and then getting up and be ready to bat has to be difficult. Being more active when playing in the field would seem to make a player a better hitter. The Twins really have too much money invested in Buxton for him to just bat 3 or 4 times each game. He seems to be swinging at more bad pitches this year. If the Twins planned for him to not play in the field they should not have signed him to such a big contract. -
Would the Twins Make a Shakeup at Hitting Coach?
John Belinski replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Tom was a player for 10 years and then had 9 years of coaching experience before coming the Twin's manager. He wasn't really old when he took over as the Twin's manager, but he had experience in baseball playing and coaching. -
Would the Twins Make a Shakeup at Hitting Coach?
John Belinski replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It would seem the Twins need a new hitting coach based on their hitter's poor performance. I think someone a little older and with more experience could help the Twins hitters, but I would be shocked if Rocco made a change. It may be hard for the batters to accept help from a 33 year old coach that has limited experience. If I was making way more than someone who was supposed to advise me I would have a hard time accepting their help since I would think I know more than they do. I often saw young managers have a hard time working with older employees who were thinking they knew more than the young manager. Even Rocco has limited managing experience. Many baseball managers are older than Rocco and have had more experience. In the good old days all managers were older. -
Padres 6, Twins 1: The Hits Just Keep Not Coming

Alcala doesn't belong with the Twins. Time after time he pitches poorly. It appears we have some help in St Paul.- 58 replies

It appears Helman who can hit and run would help the Twins. I think he could take Solano's spot.

What should the Twins do with Jose Miranda?
John Belinski replied to Hunter McCall's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He certainly should not be the starting 3rd baseman and since he is not hitting should probably not be on the current team at this time. Bring up another player who is having a good year in St. Paul. I think his shoulder may still be a problem. If he has a future with the Twins it would be at 1st base and he would need to become a better hitter. Maybe the manager in St Paul can work with him so he can become a better hitter. He needs to stop swinging at so many bad pitches, but the same could apply to several other Twins hitters. -
Padres 6, Twins 1: The Hits Just Keep Not Coming
John Belinski replied to Steven Trefz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
How long is Rocco going to keep batting Correa at the top of lineup? Having a batter hit in 3 spot with a average below .200 is a joke. When will manager or hitting coach have batters stop swinging at so many pitches out of the strike zone? Until batters stop swinging at so many pitches out of strike zone the other team's pitchers will just keep throwing pitches that can't be hit. I am sure all the other teams know the Twins players swing at bad pitches so they will keep throwing pitches out of strike zone. Our winning record is going to turn into a losing record if Rocco doesn't improve as a manager.- 58 replies

Miranda is just not hitting so he could be replaced. It appears we are leading all baseball teams with the lowest batting average and just about leading baseball with the most strikeouts. Unless our hitting improves it will be be hard to remain a winning team.

Twins Forced Into Glimpse of Future Rotation
John Belinski replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I am still not sold that the trade for Lopez was a win win. Lopez has been ok, but the Twins really need hitting help that they traded away. Over the long season is a pitcher that pitches every 5 days worth more wins than a very good hitter that plays everyday. I really think the Twins would have a better record this year without that trade since they are just not getting enough hits to win games. The Twins certainly expected they would be getting more hits from their current players, but so far that has just not happened. Either the manager or hitting coach has to work with batters so they stop swinging at so many pitches out of the strike zone. Other teams know our batters are swinging at bad pitches so they will have their pitchers throw more pitches out of strike zone and fewer pitches in strike zone. With fewer good pitches to hit the Twins will continue to have more poor at bats.- 33 replies

Start supporting each other like a team should!
John Belinski commented on killebrewlover's blog entry in Killebrewlover
Another game that the Twins have the bases loaded and no outs, but they score 0 runs. It is hard to understand why the Twins have the worst record in baseball in scoring runs with the bases loaded. There has to be some reason why they have this problem. The players have to produce, but they need leadership which seems to be lacking. -
With the Twins not scoring runs it is time to think if a very good batter that plays everyday is worth more than a pitcher that pitches every 5 days? I think a everyday good hitter is worth more wins than a pitcher that pitches every 5 days. The Twins do lead baseball in one area and that is in most strikeouts. Both the manager and hitting coach have to do a better job working with hitters. I did look up the Twins pitching coach and he is a younger person without a lot of experience and was not a good hitter in his short career. I think a hitting coach should have experience and a history of being a good hitter.

Twins Offense in April
John Belinski commented on JHelley4's blog entry in THe twins offense is starting to catch fire, will it keep up?
The Twins are just not hitting well enough to keep winning games. They seem to swing at way too many pitches out of the strike zone. Time after time the Twins batters strike out when the pitcher doesn't throw even one pitch in the strike zone. News travels fast and more teams are going to have their pitchers throw fewer pitches in the strike zone. The manager or hitting coach have to help hitters improve and stop swinging at pitches well out of the strike zone. -
It is so hard to pick which college players will become future players with the Twins or any team. Some can field, but cannot hit while others can hit, but not become good in the field. It seems like a lot of really good hitters in college do not keep hitting when they become pro players. Do the different bats really make that much difference? Playing in the minors is probably not much rewarding so some good players could just decide to look elsewhere for their future job. With the future of playing 3 or 4 years in the minors some good college players just get better jobs in business for a better future. I think there has been some improvements in pay for those playing in the minors, but still think those players should be paid more since their current pay makes it hard for them to provide for their family.

Not-So-Lucky Nick Gordon
John Belinski commented on SportsGuyDalton's blog entry in SportsGuyDalton's Blog
I am not sure a player can be lucky or unlucky. I would guess most good hitters are lucky and most poor hitters are unlucky. I think Nick could be a OK player to have on the bench, but will never be a starting player. It appears the Twins could have several young players that could become starting players. With the limited roster spots each team has it is difficult to keep players that could be a OK player, but not enough talent to become a starting player. Our young players may not be ready this year so players like Nick are needed on this team, but he may not have a spot next year unless he starts getting more "lucky" hits. -
Almost the whole team is batting below what was expected. Our two stars are batting way below what was expected. It seems like the biggest problem is the batters swinging at so many pitches well out of the strike zone. Other teams will certainly know about this and will have their pitchers throw more pitches out of the strike zone since the Twins batters are swinging and missing them. It would appear either the manager or hitting coach has to start helping the hitters to be more selective. The longer the Twin's players keep swinging at bad pitches they will see fewer pitches that they can hit in the strike zone.

Start supporting each other like a team should!
John Belinski commented on killebrewlover's blog entry in Killebrewlover
The Twins are certainly not playing like a Championship team. Their starting pitchers seem to be above average, their bullpen seems average, their fielding seems average and their hitting is below average. They should win their weak division, but need better hitting to beat good teams. They went into Chicago with some people expecting a sweep, but they were lucky to win one game. If their two high paid stars don't start hitting the Twins will continue to not play like a championship team -

You're Wrong to Not Like Max Kepler
John Belinski replied to Greggory Masterson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like Max. He may not be a star, but he is certainly not a bum. He doesn't swing at a lot of bad pitches and he is good in the outfield. Good teams need a few star players, but also need players like Max. I do think he should not be batting in the leadoff spot, but the Twins do not really have a good leadoff batter and that has hurt the Twins this year. -
Byron Buxton Now, Alex Kirilloff Later
John Belinski replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I certainly agree with calling up AK. He should be given a chance to see if he can hit at this level. He should be able to do better than 7 straight strikeouts that the player he replaced had. The Twins had nothing to lose up calling him up and giving him a chance. -
Is Bailey Ober Sustainable?
John Belinski replied to Ted Wiedmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Several tall pitchers have had very good records. Last night was a really well pitched game. He pitched 7 full innings and had 91 pitches with only 3 hits given up. It was one of the better pitched games this year and he was much better than the 2 pitchers we put on the IR list. Those 2 pitchers have not helped the Twins this year and I would be surprised if they come back as winning pitchers. The only way to build a winning team is with young talent and it appears the Twins have some young players that will help them win either this year or next year. I was against signing Correa to a big long term contract since we have young players that may not be able to play since we have to play Correa due to his big contract. We now have a $200 million player batting .200 in the number 3 spot in lineup. -
VIDEO: Should We Worry About Carlos Correa Yet?
John Belinski replied to Baseball AF's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I am certainly concerned about his hitting. Way too many strikeouts and swinging at bad pitchers plus he has hit into several bad double plays. I do not know if he is trying too hard or if he will start hitting better soon. The Twins invested so much money in him so it will be a major problem if he doesn't start getting big hits soon. I was not a fan of signing him to a big contract since we have some good young SS coming up. The Twins need him to start hitting. I just do not understand why Rocco keeps batting him at the top of lineup when Correa is hitting about .200. In several games Correa has left 4 or more runners on base since he is just not hitting. To have a number 3 batter hitting .200 is just not a good idea.
