What are the Twins Expecting from Trevor Larnach?

What are the Twins Expecting from Trevor Larnach? Let's start with contact. -
"Maeda made slow slop work" proving that pitching is more than just throwing. Being able to locate pitches will keep you in the bigs for a long time. I will, for the most part, take a pitcher over a thrower any day.

Dodgers 6, Twins 3: Too Little, Too Late
Fezig replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I was completely unaware because I pay attention to the Twins, but... did I see Glasnow pitched 7 innings for the Dodgers? Are you still allowed to do that in todays game? How did the Twins not score 15 runs in the 7th inning if they were going through the lineup a third time!?! At present, Correa, Buxton, Lewis, and Kiriloff are the only players on this team that anyone else would covet. Other than that it's a team filled with AAA 1/2 players. I'd love for them to prove me wrong, but until the managment's philosophy of all or nothing changes this team will not succeed against any good teams.- 44 replies

Guardians 3, Twins 1: A Big Zone Extends a Cold Spring

There was no comparison of talent. The point is the Twins need to let the players play to their abilities and strengths.- 53 replies

Guardians 3, Twins 1: A Big Zone Extends a Cold Spring
Fezig replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
There was a shortstop years ago that was highly heralded. He struggled early in his first season and kept listening to everyone about how making this change or that change would change his luck. Finally someone gave his the best advice he could have, which was essentially, stop thinking about what you're doing and do what got you here. He won rookie of the year beating an up-and-coming first baseman for the Twins. His name was Cal Ripken. The point is, the players on this roster need to stop doing what the manager is telling them to do and just start hitting the ball like they did on the way up to the majors.- 53 replies

Do the Twins Need to Shuffle the Roster?
Fezig replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The only reason the Twins will have any success has nothing to do with the guy the writes out the lineup card. You are 100% correct in management having the wrong philosophy. Instead of cramming a "one size fits all approach" it might be best to try to utilize each players strength and write the lineup according to those strengths. I still remember reading years ago when Ted Williams ask Mo Vaughn why he let the first pitch go that was right down the middle. And Mo gave some "make the pitcher work" response or something in the vein. Ted told him to stop doing that because that might be the only pitch he sees that he can hit. If Ted Williams tells you something about hitting, you listen. And i'm pretty sure Ted didn't mention exit velo.- 28 replies

How about Rocco keeps the same lineup two days in a row? Just once, give it a shot and see what happens. I was never more than an avg ball player growing up but there is a bit of comfort in knowing where you are going to bat. I could still recite the 87 Twins standard lineup. There were some changes with a lefty involved but you knew Gladden was hitting first and Puck was third - without exception. That said, Buxton and Correa should be in the top three hitters every game. I'd even put AK in there as well as he would fit perfectly in the R/L/R lineup.

Someone is bound for a sophomore slump. Will it be: Jax, Jeffers, Julien, Lewis, or Wallner? The most important to not have a slump - Lewis. The least important - Jax?- 19 replies

3 Former Top 5 Twins Prospects Sent to Minor-League Camp
Fezig replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Could you imagine how much they would have screwed up early Joe Mauer? "Stop hitting all of those gap doubles to left center, Joe!" "Everything must be pulled and if you strike out we'll change the terminology and call it a productive at-bat" Don't get me started on Carew and Oliva. Their exit velo and launch angle had much to be desired.- 45 replies

I'm not convinced it's "established". Granted, this was from a few years ago. The one stat that's absent is strikeouts but it's probably safe to assume that power hitters will strike out more often.

Free games for kids is a great idea. The only problem is parents and grandparents who miss the way baseball was played are going to still avoid going to games because watching your home team strike out a third of the time isn't fun. Not to mention a starting pitcher having a "good" start after only throwing 4 innings isn't something old school baseball fans appreciate.

It'll be interesting to see if the clubhouse dynamic changes with Polanco and Gordon getting dealt. A leader and "hype man" can sometimes be tough to replace overnight.
