What are the Twins Getting in Gabriel González?
Fezig replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
The Twins need to rely less on EV and a little more on contact. Setting a K record (not pitching) is an embarrassing stat. I'd rather watch a guy put a ball in play and hustle than a guy try to hit a five run dinger. -
The Jorge Polanco Trade Fails the Simplest of Tests
Fezig replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I can't say that I know for sure, but pretty much every writer on this site has credited him as being a leader as have many of the other writers from the area. -
The Jorge Polanco Trade Fails the Simplest of Tests
Fezig replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
1) I don't hate the trade, then again I don't love it. Pro: This will make the Julien v Lee battle for second base entertaining. Having Lee bake in the minors doesn't make sense if he's ready to go. Got another top 100 prospect in return. Con: Another middling starter. Lost Polanco's leadership in the clubhouse. Lost Polanco's switch hitting. -
Twins Claim Speedy Outfielder Bubba Thompson Off Waivers
Fezig replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm pretty sure it was a Mr. Tom Kelly that stated you had a be patient with the faster players in regard to their development. 25 seems about the right age to find out if he's developed. I like the signing. Play him as much as possible in spring training and see what happens. -
Does Aaron Hicks Come Full Circle?
Fezig replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I have no idea how fast the exit velocity is with Hicks. Does he have productive k's. Does he know how to swing for the fences with two strikes and down by five runs. Those are the things we need to know when deciding on if a guy is worthy of wearing the ugliest hat in the MLB. -
How Valuable Can Austin Martin be to the 2024 Twins?
Fezig replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm not saying Martin will be a batting champ, but here's a guy whose exit velocity isn't that great but somehow still succeeds. I'm guessing he doesn't oversubscribe to the analytics. https://www.mlb.com/news/how-luis-arraez-is-an-elite-hitter-without-elite-exit-velocity -
Greg Maddux averaged 89-90 mph on his fastball and did ok. On the opposite end, Roger Clemons averaged 94mph throughout most of his career and continually finished in the top in innings pitch. The same could be said about Randy Johnson. Yes, those guys are HOF, but we'll never know the extent of what any of our pitchers can do if they aren't given the opportunity.

Maybe we can find more pitchers to come here that love NY if it means complete game victories.

Watching those Cuddyer home runs and I noticed one thing. Fully in control in the batters box and didn't swing out of his shoes. Nice learning videos for the players on the roster today on how to have a big league approach to hitting.

5 Gifts for the Twins in 2024
Fezig replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
A pitch count that goes above 100 and starters that can complete a 9 inning game. Although, Ryan did get close with his two inning playoff gem.- 24 replies

I Wouldn’t Trade Julien, but I Understand Those Who Would
Fezig commented on Thiéres Rabelo's blog entry in Brazilian Twins Territory
Wouldn't it be incredible if the Twins drafted and developed top - line pitching instead of always having to look at trading important pieces of the lineup? The last pitcher the Twins drafted and developed into a #1, All-star, All MLB pitcher was....? -
The three things with the Twins I don't like seeing: 1) Baldelli in the dugout 2) The hideous bar league softball M hats they brought out next year. 3) The most strikeouts in major league history. #3 can be put on the manager and it wouldn't surprise me if he had a role in #2 as well.

When a team sets the world ablaze in strikeouts the odds of having a dynamic duo are longer than the Vikings winning a Super Bowl.

How much of the funding went to increase the number of police officers. The city was down over 200 in 2021. Did the budget account for COLA, new equipment, rebuilding the destroyed police station, etc..? Budget does not indicate the number of officers.

Somehow, and I'm not sure how, a guy who writes columns regarding baseball knows more about San Francisco and the sentiment of players throughout the league than a guy who actually lived and played professional baseball there. If given a choice to play in SF or another major league team there isn't a chance I'd sign with the Giants. Even CNN had a story articulating the problem of crime and homelessness in the city. In regard to the "facts" that players have still signed there. Just because player A signed there doesn't mean player B-F have the same feeling. Lastly, noting crime and homeless, not feeling feeling safe in a large city is not bigotry or a political agenda being pushed by anyone. I find it hilarious that making decisions for you safety based on rising crime statistics makes you a bigot or politically motivated. The problem with the article is the author went in with his own political agenda and wrote with those political lenses on. For those that missed Posey's quote as it wasn't in the story: “Something I think is noteworthy, something that unfortunately keeps popping up from players and even the players’ wives is there’s a bit of an uneasiness with the city itself, as far as the state of the city, with crime, with drugs,” Posey said. “Whether that’s all completely fair or not, perception is reality. It’s a frustrating cycle, I think, and not just with baseball. Baseball is secondary to life and the important things in life. But as far as a free-agent pursuit goes, I have seen that it does affect things.”

Is the Twins' Austin Martin Ready to Drive?
Fezig replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The scene is set in late winter of 21, early 22. No one knows for sure. MN Twins front office: Good. We fleeced those Canucks! We got a top twenty prospect for an expiring contract! Tell me, what did the Jays do to make him so good? Scout: Well sirs, they focused on his strength which is putting the ball in play and playing defense. Front office: What! Putting the ball in play?!? Contact hitters! An Elf might as well become a dentist for Heaven's sake! We gotta work with that kid and show him the necessity of striking out. Those are good at-bats! Not this baserunning mularky. Scout: I'll make sure to tell those minor league coaches that we'll have no more of it. It's strike out or get out! Front Office: Do it right away. And find out if there are any other Canadian teams that think hitting the ball is important. We don't need any more of those players on our roster!- 47 replies

With statements like this: "the scouting report showed an incredible ability to put the bat on the baseball. With decent pop and an insanely low strikeout rate, the Cal Poly shortstop worked his way into being a borderline top-5 prospect in the draft" it makes sense to get rid of him. Plate discipline and the ability to put the bat on the ball is not the Twins way! Back to back strikeout records here we come!

What Can the Twins Get For Nick Gordon?
Fezig replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
One MN Twins to win two world series was Al Newman. A light hitting utility player who played multiple positions and filled in more than adequately. He was a great clubhouse presence and the Twins relied on him filling him many times during his time here. I don't see a reason why Nick Gordon couldn't be that guy if he comes in at a $1 mil a season. Seems like a steal.- 62 replies

The Clock Has Struck Midnight for Trevor Larnach
Fezig replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Consistent at-bats could be the issue. Some players thrive in spot starts and pinch hitting. Some need consistent playing time and know that when they show up their name is on the lineup card. If anyone from our depth in the outfield should be traded I propose Kepler. The Yankees would take a pull hitting lefty to torch their short porch any day.- 52 replies
