  1. He could really only be considered at DH in my opinion. He isn’t an All-star at 3B. Probably doesn’t have (due to fewer reps) any cache as a true DH at this point. His numbers are very nice with the bat. Hopefully, we’re having these discussions about Miranda again in the future!
  2. Poor yourself a cool drink……the comment on MLB the next morning was they pulled Miranda after 10 hits in a row in a blowout so he wouldn’t get plunked. ……oddly enough, his first AB in Saturday he did get hit. Don’t really think it was intentional but the pitch “in” was meant to be IN. Martin got an AB in a game where the Team was getting torched…..he got on & scored. Seems like a deep dive above to just complain.
  3. Through Wednesday the 3rd…..Margot at .899 OPS from start of June…….not a terrible 2nd half of May. So, a terrible first 6 weeks and an above average last 7 weeks. Farmer is certainly on the edge but with a guy like Lewis in the infield mix, they’ll keep Farmer as long as possible to ensure depth. Correa’s injury - Wallner’s complete ineffectiveness - Larnach’s injury - Kepler’s injury - Kirilloff’s injury - Julien’s ineffectiveness - Buxton’s injury ………,the compiling of these details are what forced Margot & Farmer into the line-up when other LH bats were unavailable or guys (CC&Buck) that hit v. pitchers from both sides were unavailable. It’s not Rocco saying to himself, “screw it, I’m going off the board and want to irritate the fans & start Farmer and Margot v. RH pitching”……..somebody has to play when there are limited options.
  4. Since the Rangers Series started on May 24th the TWINS have won 10 of their 13 series. Nationals - Pirates - Yankees all were one up & 2 down. Won the other 10 series over last 44 days. White Sox & Giants are both winnable - hope they keep it rolling!!!
  5. Looked at OPS+ numbers for individuals on the really good Teams this morning …..Baltimore - Minnesota (w/o Lewis) are the most balanced line-ups top to bottom…….. Yankees - Dodgers have the real exceptional guys but not as much balance. Really like what we’re seeing from SWR at 23!!! Lopez is definitely a key for Team to do anything special. Vazquez has 3 consecutive multi-hit games……wow!
  6. With Tucker out, the Astros are tearing up Teams……if Verlander gets right, they’ll be buyers as I think they are nearly a lock to win that Division. Seattle has one of the lowest 5 offenses in the game - they can’t pitch themselves around that issue. They anticipated Polanco to be at least League average and he’s struggled all season. Lots of K’s and no great OBP guys in their line-up. Texas has enough pitching coming and enough talent in the line-up so they’ll not give up until well into September. Angels could be a trade partner out of the West but the Top 3 teams will try to win the Division or bust, IMO.
  7. His stats intertwine a bit ……swinging through good pitches seem to be the root of the issues. If a hitter doesn’t capitalize on good pitches to hit……they then have to hit/swing at pitches around the periphery as well……more K’s!! If a guy isn’t punishing pitches in the middle and he’s striking out more there is less reason to “be careful” which leads to less walks. In 65 games played out of 89 scheduled, he’s got a real shot at 15 HR’s - 70 RBI - 2.5 WAR (currently 1.1 WAR) ……he’s hitting above career BA at .258 currently……30 doubles seems fairly likely if he plays a handful more games in 2nd half. He’s started terribly - got very hot - dipped & now seems to be stabilizing. He won’t be with the Twins next year but the balance of this season could be fun for both sides. With the balance all around him in the line-up he doesn’t shoulder a bunch of pressure - hoping for good things if he maintains his health!!
  8. Jenkins - Lee - Lewis aren’t getting traded. There are a number of guys/veterans nobody would trade for so I guess they are moot. Don’t see starting pitchers on current roster getting traded. Wallner - Julien - Festa - Rodriguez - Martin……..most younger prospects are all fair game in the right deal.
  9. Stewart - Varland - Paddack …….possibly Topa. SWR is 4th starter or emergency guy if somebody can’t go for an unforeseen circumstance. First 3 guys above, along with Okert - Staumont - Alcala - Jax - Duran can be as good as anybody’s Pen. Reds won’t trade an effective arm that they can control for 3-4 years. They will be good once their everyday guys are healthy. They might trade Montas but he doesn’t bring much, if anything, more to the table than Paddack. He’s also a rental. He might be an interesting relief option - I live in Cincinnati and he can look really good for 3 innings at a time! Cannot see why anyone thinks the Red Sox would trade Jansen? They just moved past the Royals for last Wild Card ……they are having great success with their Rotation - I think they are buyers for sure. Seems Houston takes over the West by August. Seattle - Boston - K.C. for last Wildcard spot IMO. Yates might be worth considering from Texas? Really though - I think the Twins, relative to deadline options, are all set.
  10. What possible return of interest to the Twins are either or both of those guys going to bring?……both would be rentals and neither are impact guys. Margot will be on the Roster October 5th, unless he continues to drop fly balls. He’s going exactly what they sought out in the offseason. He was terrible for first 6 weeks - that ended though, 7 weeks ago. His .899 OPS since beginning of June have locked him in here.
  11. I guess my assumption is Paddack for one of the relievers. Winder or the other guy from Friday nobody seems to be referencing, Funderburk. Not sure why they’d take a look at Wallner for a couple days…….Martin, while. or a “power guy” is more versatile and has performed.
  12. The Road Series detail is a deep dive & interesting, I guess it’s Cleveland? The offensive addition via trade is a fools errand, as you state! The line-up balance & length of capable bats is formative!! Lewis is (will be) another pretty big shot in the arm relative to OPS as well. The Pen will come together with health - Stewart - Varland - Paddack ……outside shot with Topa …..,all in September/October & it too will be formidable. Can’t LEAD MLB in strikeouts as a Staff w/o some pretty good talent!
  13. If you throw Staumont when trailing Friday who throws Sunday if you are up in the 6th or 7th?
  14. I keep seeing how Baldelli mismanaged the staff last night……maybe 40% or more of the posts are behind this thinking. Lopez sucked and got the Team in a hole….not the Manager. Winder - Sands - Thielbar - Funderburk are 50% of his choices in the Pen. He doesn’t run the Club - probably has some input but he Manages the guys he has to manage. Alcala was used in the 6th because Lopez couldn’t get an out……..everyone here complains if Alcala is EVER being used more than 1 inning! He was done. Can’t throw Staumont - Jax - Duran down 2 starting the 7th. So with the options he had, he chose Winder & he underperformed. Absolutely nothing that couldn’t have happened with Sands. Winder was specifically brought up to take a look at and get some feel for where he’s at right now AND to give some innings in lower leverage situations. Thielbar could have given up a 3 run homer just as well as Funderburk. Caleb hasn’t been automatic in his role by any means. The Astros are HOT & Teams lose 45% of their games in a 90 win campaign…..did ANYONE see the Team scoring 4-7 more runs entering the top of the 7th? ……………….. TWINS are up 5-0 at the end of the 2nd inning on Saturday - why the hell isn’t the Astros Manager taking the pitcher out?!?!???? It’s 162 games season and there are only so many options, that’s why.
  15. You have no crystal ball……Houston’s won 12 of 14 coming in……who’s to say Sands doesn’t get lit up? You want Jax in the game down 2 in the 6th?? How about Caleb - he’s been nothing but stellar - right? You don’t burn guys up that are leverage arms when down 2 in the middle of the game. He can only pitch guys that are in the Pen - it’s not fantasy baseball. It’s easy to bitch about the manager after one sees results - it’s easy to disagree with a point of view and then offer no alternative thought or plan! Show us the progression of arms you would parade out on the first night of a 3 game series, down 2 to start the 7th. Alcala was already used. Jax & Duran aren’t coming in then. You got 5 guys - who’s throwing the 7th - 8th - 9th? I’ll let you know how you did in Monday morning.
  16. He’s just trying to get them a rep to be ready for when it may count later in the weekend. Generally, if the Twins don’t inexplicably score 7 runs in the 9th there’s no angst for pinch hitters - Winder and Funderburk eating some innings & not pitching well while behind - etc. Lopez had a 2.00 WHIP through 5 innings and gave up 6 earned. That’s the root of the problem, IMO. The managing criticism after that is pretty subjective based on hindsight. Need to burn all the Pablo Day jerseys as it surely seems to be in his head or they’re just bad luck??? ”On their feet” is just a quick comment in the moment……,”we were out of it so I thought I’d get a couple other guys AB’s” isn’t the right thing to say either in a competition.
  17. Ryan - 17 starts - 3.21 ERA SWR - 14 starts - 3.52 ERA These 4 guys with Paddack and Varland going to Pen with knowledge they are throwing 2 innings max…..,,I think we’re legit. Can SWR handle the innings load?
  18. As of this morning it looks like Paddack stays out of the mix for another 2 weeks. Also, apparently Winder gets a spot start on the 8th……,maybe they option Funderburk for a Boushley start on the 8th? Maybe it’s a Pen game with Winder/Funderburk/Sands? Good for Paddack to stay somewhat inactive as they’ll need another decent 6-8 weeks from him once he returns.
  19. Jeffers had a nice day Thursday - was looking at his stats and noticed Santana and handful of others having really solid first halves - nothing surprising to any here: Jeffers 30 XBH - 126 OPS+ Castro 33 XBH - 125 OPS+ Correa 28 XBH - 151 OPS+ Miranda 28 XBH - 151 OPS+ Santana 27 XBH - 113 OPS+ Buxton 26 XBH - 119 OPS+ Lee & Lewis both are capable of this range of performance! Solid Core along with Larnach - Kepler - Martin - Margot around the periphery. Room for Vazquez for sure - Farmer, maybe not much longer? Any offensive upgrades seem to be fools errand.
  20. All correct!! Hoping for the pitching add! Curious about signing Lewis up - how that might look w/o much playing history due to his injuries. Risk for both sides to be weighed. Castro sure seems to have earned some security.
  21. To me, it’s not accurate though. The idea was to platoon Kirilloff with Santana at 1B - an ideal Left/Right combination. 1) Larnach was hurt - IL. 2) Castro had to play 3B because Lewis was OUT - IL. 3) The anticipated every day LF, Matt Wallner hit .080 and hasn’t seen MLB since April 20. Enter OUR ONLY OPTION, Alex Kirilloff in LF. There was no affinity for Santana at 1B it was “how do we field a line-up”…….,,Brooks Lee could have filled in and allowed Castro to play LF……but he too was on IL. Another version of observing and making a reasonable conclusion. I like Kirilloff - still hope he’s able to be a big contributor with his bat. I do not think he was mishandled, certainly with no malice. The fact that he got sent down and then advised mgmt. of an injury he’d been concealing (bad back, not shoulder) is on him, IMO.
  22. Not disagreeing - just throwing out some names - part of the definitive line with Ryan was the Technology wasn’t evolved. or pursued much. Smoky Joe Wood - Ryan - Walter Johnson - Sam McDowell - Clemons - JR Richard - Gooden - Feller ……definitely not a long list of possibilities prior to 90’s.
