  1. TODAY, you are correct! Meaning, so far this year……3.40 ERA since the first 8 run debacle v. Royals……that’s over 18 starts. I still think over next 70 days Lopez can sharpen up…..small adjustments. Ober made some adjustments after first inning last night & he looked great. Bottom line is Ryan, Lopez, & certainly Ober as well, are playoff worthy pitchers that can be expected to perform and keep Team competitive! Another reason or THE reason my sights are on Tanner Scott for the Pen, singularly.
  2. Again, we all have opinions. I am not if the opinion that Baldelli walked in the Clubhouse one day late in April and said, make contact and quit swinging for the fences…….guys started to execute the ALASAYS plan of getting the barrel on the ball. Execution got better not some mystical change in philosophy. They just hit HR’s in 29 straight games - guys are still swinging hard!! The win last night being attributed to small ball seems a bit flawed to me since I saw at least 3 balls hit the wall……no HR’s granted. it was hardly hit and run.m baseball though.
  3. I still don’t get the rationale……doesn’t really matter……if 5 guys leave…..that’s essentially 20% of the roster. Margot - Farmer - Thielbar - Santana - Kepler……cannot imagine a Team that’s winning and in the hunt for the Division wanting to change more than 20% of their 26 man roster.
  4. But if Schobel has no trade value thinking he can help get Kikuchi doesn’t add up to me. Seldom under age 23-24 is the number you showed, 29 + 7 = 36, out of 780 roster spots….around 4%. I’m saying the team will be younger w/o the group above and it seemed you thought they wouldn’t because everyone is essentially over 25. If THIS YEAR needs to be seized regularly, as I would agree, a Team can’t bring guys up “to give them a chance……” just to see what happens. I could care less if Kiersey ever steps on Target Field if the Team is winning! There’s 13 roster spots to be utilized to help win games……that’s what the organization is focused on in ‘24 and in any year that they can sniff the playoffs.
  5. Shedding Kepler - Santana - Farmer - Thielbar is fairly significant, IMO, going into ‘25. ……regardless, almost always want to push to WIN NOW! Over age 25 is hardly old in baseball……. seldom see guys under 23-24 coming into the League. Can’t get anxious because a guy’s going to be 27 or 28! Schobel has nearly zero trade value - he’s not netting a starter that 5 other Teams will try to get.
  6. Trade stuff OUTSIDE PITCHING thread: Essentially every comment about the Twins since beginning of ‘23 is that they need another RH bat……..I don’t see any worth in spending prospect capital here. Stick with pitching needs. Martin - Margot - Jeffers - Buxton - Correa - Miranda - Santana - Lee - Castro - Lewis …..that’s 10 guys that are in the mix and hitting LH pitching, or anticipated to hit LH pitching. That’s enough!
  7. I struggle with the, not wanting to give anything up approach. The reason to acquire someone is to ensure (help) getting into the playoffs. It’s not worth the organizations 16th prospect to get to this end? There is always competition for players at the deadline - I think minds need to be more open to actually making something happen for the betterment of ‘24 outcome.
  8. Obviously, there’s a reason for wanting every guy to perform well and some rationale. Not saying you disagree just pointing out some positives here. To me, Duran has been just fine and continuing his first half will work. He missed first 3-4 weeks and still has 15 saves. I think he’s 5-4…….one game was tough luck & 3 were due to homers on breaking stuff hanging in the zone……it happens. Consecutive days made it tough to stomach!! His velocity dropping from 103 to 101 seems awfully critical to me. His curve is still 86 mph & his splinker at 96-97. Stay healthy is my hope for him!
  9. If Twins get a rental, I really hope the target is Tanner Scott. IMO, the need for lefty is more of a spot insertion later in the game. If a lefty starts the line-up is often skewed to handle that initially. Scott would help with a deficiency in the bullpen with a very sharp lefty. I think, with some risk, a Paxton type gets the starts that may be needed, allowing the focus to be on acquiring Scott.
  10. BAILEY OBER!! ……7 Strong! COLE SANDS!! ……..rested balance of the Pen Too many to mention on offense ….nice evening after the rain stopped.
  11. No responses……that’s not good!! Gotta think it’s a coin toss between Varland & Festa - right? Do they ever give Dobnack a shot to see if he can catch fire for 2-3 starts? Don’t think his stuff plays but neither did Kuechel’s last year.
  12. Matthew’s: I’m always a detractor of looking at MiLB numbers and projecting them into the Show. That said, he sure is impressive! Almost never walks a guy - 96MPH plus - strikes guys out at a good rate………he may be the fastest climber in Pro Ball this year? Could see him in Minneapolis in another 3 weeks……..he’s only got so many available innings for the year …..,may not be able to waste them “learning” in St Paul
  13. Pretty sure Flaherty is a rental as well. I get some think it’s old school and doesn’t apply, but I don’t see the Twins trading to improve the White Sox nor the Tigers within their Division. Paxton is a better option than Kuechel was last year. Yikes, 48 walks in 89 innings! Tyler Anderson is worth some thought! I do think that there’s a hot Market for Anderson - Quantrill - Kikuchi………, I’d feel much better working a deal for relief rental, Tanner Scott. Can piece 10 starts together over next 70 days between Varland - Festa - Matthews …..I think?
  14. If a couple guys pitch more effectively in relief it would be cool - one bad performance lead to another…….letting pop-up bunts drop and fielding ball as it is rolling foul just adds fuel to the fire……Castro running into an out at 3rd and not fielding balls cleanly at SS are issues as well.
  15. Take Perez - Witt - Pasquantino out of Royals line-up & see how good their Manager looks. Correa - Lewis - Miranda are out and offense is spotty……relief corp had issues over the weekend to say the least.
  16. Playoff Pen: Alcala - Stewart - Varland - Paddack - Sands/Staumont - (Topa????) - Okert - Jax - Duran ……,,everybody has struggles with Pen through a season ……I still think, as you pointed out, that this can be a strength.
  17. How about a rested bullpen coming out of the Break and giving up 8 earned runs in 2 games…….that didn’t help a thing!
  18. Series in Boston in mid-September is potentially for the 3rd spot to get into the playoffs! K.C. is going nowhere - Seattle may pick up a couple hitters - Astros are solid - O’s or Yanks have 1 Wild Card - Boston seems stable - even Texas has the roster to make a run at us…….4-5 teams for the last 2 spots.
  19. The flaw to me is……we’re going to lose 45% of the time. How that occurs differs. Perfect managing doesn’t exist because guys only get hits (when given opportunity by Manager) 25% of the time. Bad things are going to happen relative to winning the game. If it’s Wallner striking out facing a lefty in the 6th or whenever, or Margot not getting a hit after he doubled in his previous AB …..failure is going to happen routinely. Team is w/o it’s top 3 of 4 hitters…….give that situation to any Manager in the game and give the opposition Perralta & the results aren’t going to be very positive.
  20. Always a good idea to not try to score now and hope you have an opportunity later!!!
  21. You can’t pinch hit for one LH hitter to protect the others w/o a guy leaving the line-up……no confusion. The confusion seems to be from people thinking the Team should win every game & if they don’t, 95% of the time it’s the Manager’s fault.
  22. They do switch pitchers essentially every time - that’s part of why he does it, so they need to get further into the Pen and to get a right handed pitcher back in the game for the others in the line-up. If he doesn’t pinch hit him the flow of the guy on the mound stays in tact and the defense still has a mismatch v. whatever LH hitter is in the box. Margot’s been worse than brutal when this happens but from a strategy angle, it makes sense.
  23. I get the frustration after a loss. Baldelli is managing to get ahead & generate offense when the opportunity arises in the middle of the game so there is no need to rely on Martin - Margot - Castillo or anyone else in the 9th - 10th - 11th - 12th. Every Team is out of options that late in a game……it’s not unique to the Twins! Margot doubled and gave the Team a chance to go ahead earlier but it didn’t happen. That’s not on him - it’s not on Baldelli, just baseball. Did we all see Okert absolutely butcher a gift out on a pop up bunt - he’s a major league player…….,,not only did he not catch the ball, he then made sure it hurt more by touching the ball just before it was to go foul……Baldelli, nor any Legion Ball coach teaches either of those decisions. All have a right to complain but every loss being Rocco’s fault in some twisted way seems odd, to me.
