  1. Andrew Stevenson is being called up. Wow, why not Martin? Bad news for Larnach as well.
  2. Makes me wonder about the Twins minor league pitcher of the year. Cory Lewis makes sense to me but there is a bias towards those in the upper levels (otherwise Festa would have won it last year). So Varland once again??
  3. Noticed that Jovani Moran went on the IL in St. Paul with the dreaded "forearm strain." I don't think Paddack will be ready to help this year. Stewart really could though. Putting some combination of Maeda/Ober/Keuchel/Ryan in the bullpen could be more help in the playoffs than the not quite ready Alcala and Paddack.
  4. If Lewis was healthy at the start of the season, he sure looks like he would have got rookie of the year. I really think Lee will be pushed next year in hopes that he will get rookie of the year and that draft pick.
  5. No, it took him awhile to conquer AA ball. He will need time in AAA next year, especially to start building on his innings pitched in a season so he is ready for the rotation in 2025. With injuries he may get a few starts with the Twins next year and then head back to the Saints.
  6. Great game by Festa. Very nice to see Buxton and Kirilloff playing again. Wow, Cedar Rapids is killing their competition. They started off slow this year with all the young guys at 9-12 if my count is correct. Since then, 68-33!
  7. I still think Jeffers plays better when he plays every other game. I am also not going to look up his hitting stats when playing catcher on consecutive days.
  8. The key hit - Lewis. The key pitcher - Funderburk. Give these young guys a chance. They seem to do well quite often recently.
  9. Festa up to the Saints according to the Twins radio broadcast crew.
  10. Wow, just heard on the radio - David Festa promoted to AAA. I thought maybe they would leave him down in Wichita just to pitch in the playoffs, which it appears they would have made for winning the 2nd half. Without Festa, that could be challenging, but they have been playing their best AFTER Lee, Severino and Kiersey got moved up.
  11. This tight strike zone could be interesting for Funderburk - first major league game and tends to walk some guys.
  12. Larnach and Celestino - potential. Stevenson and Kiersey - AAA results. Martin - both. I'm not sure Larnach and Celestino will still be on the 40 man next spring.
  13. Moran - the writeup says one scoreless inning. The whole story - he gave up 1 hit and 3 walks in that 1 inning. No way the Twins can trust that on the playoff roster. Miller is smoking hot - 3 more hits today. Jenkins had better slow down. The Mickey Mantle comparison hysteria is going to explode over the winter.
  14. Again, the biggest hits are from our young guys - Lewis this time. Our baserunning blunders are from the veterans - Solano and Gallo. Go figure.
  15. Thanks for the analysis. What purpose does Gallo serve if we have Kirilloff and Solano at 1B, Buxton, Taylor and Castro in CF and Castro, Taylor and Wallner in LF? We would be much better off with speed on the bench with someone like Martin. Paddack, I don't think he's going to be ready. I would like another left-hander out of the pen. I like Funderburk over Moran but we better get him some MLB experience if we are going in that direction.
  16. Agreed and he will join Camargo with the Saints. Cardenas and Cossetti are coming to Wichita. Olivar and Baez to Cedar Rapids. This is a nice group of which at least one should make it all the way to MLB and be good.
  17. For the season, they are 9th out of 10 teams in the league in ERA. In the last 30 days, they are 2nd in the league (which oddly corresponds with Lee, Severino and Keirsey moving up to the Saints). In the last 15 days, they are #1 with a 2.89 ERA. Give credit to the pitching coach for great improvement of Ohl, Adams, Festa and Nowlin from earlier in the year. Ohl and Festa probably go to AAA next spring but Wichita will have a great staff with Adams, Nowlin and Raya IMO.
  18. Is Taylor slightly injured or why is Gallo playing CF for two games in a row, and when Gallo gets ejected Luplow comes in?
  19. Martin just needs to get on the 40 man by August 31 to be eligible for the playoffs correct? As you said, Miranda (or Alcala) to the 60 day IL and Martin on the 40 man. If Castro get re-injured, Martin is the speed guy we will need off the bench in key situations for the playoffs. I think Castro will be back with the Twins on September 1. Kirilloff is apparently working out with the Twins on the field so he should be back. I think Buxton will be back sometime. We don't need to DFA Luplow, just send him down to the Saints. Then, the very logical move because we will have multiple guys at each position is to DFA Gallo.
  20. Is it just me or are Julien and Wallner right almost every time on the missed calls because they have played with the challenge or robo umps in the minors? They really know the strike zone and don't seem to say a word when they let a pitch go that is actually in the zone.
  21. Nowlin is the Prato of pitching - move up a level and he plays much better, especially his control. Also, anyone else with me back on the Miller bandwagon? He is hitting great this month.
  22. Rocco with a lot of right moves tonight - Jeffers pinch hitting and Jax (rather than Pagan) in the 9th.
  23. I do think Julien has improved dramatically on defense this month, going from terrible to below average. As some have said, Buxton is the key to everything. If he's in CF, DH is wide open. If Buxton is at DH permanently, you have to move Lewis to CF to have a Lee, Correa, Julien, Kirilloff infield IMO.
  24. Has to feel good for Salas to have a 3 hit game. Miller continues his hot August but he's probably not catching Isola for hitter of the month. And Festa is really having better games in August as well.
