    Something tells me he will turn the corner this year. I think for awhile he will play at St. Paul, but he come up when someone's injured. Then I think he will have some moments like lewis had last year. Anyway he will start out the following year with the Twins. I also think Gordan will have better year than two years ago, when he was healthy. That would work out fine, since I think the Twins might look to trade Gordon.

    Twins did fair. They need one of two things. Either a great outfield bat and or a true ace. Free agents would be hard to deal with because of cost. They probably won't spend more than 10 to 12 million more at most. There are only certain things that they could try. Trade away enough players we feel we don't need to free up cash for a high profile player. Or do like you say and wait till the trade deadline. Then we could see . But that means we lose half a season without that star. Too many things can happen by the deadline. A novel idea is to take a page out of the Dodgers book. Find the star we want and defer some money for the first few years of the contract . I know people will say where will the defered money come from? Do you really think both Buxton and Correa will both be on the team in 3 or 4 years? Very doubtful. With the right management we could have several million available at that time.

    Quite a thesis. Anyway it may matter now, but soon it will all change. With the advancement of A . I. They will soon experiment with devises inside the umpires mask. That devise will cause catchers and pitchers to adopt changes. The reason I think they still have a home plate umpire., is they have union reps. Also they will still be needed to make calls. The best thing for a team to work on with catchers is to increase the speed of release and accuracy. Also half of base stealing is done on pitchers. Find one that are harder to steal on. Then it seams like you might go back to the old way of catching. That would allow for better blocking at the plate. And better position on throws.

    Niether, they are our future and our present. Stop talking about things that won't happen. The Twins don't trade players when they are at there best . Sano 2019, or Kepler or Polanko. And many others. They hang on till there pay is 10 plusi million dollars. Then struggle to trade them and release them. If we would have offered Sonny gray 3 million more for three years , would he be here. And we still could have traded him to the same team or someone like the Yankees who have a great prospect list to choose from. Every other year the twins are afraid to pull the trigger. This time they use the excuse that we don't have enough money. We currently could spend about 25 million. But we have almost 40 we could lose of payroll. People who have been talked about trading: Polanko, Kepler, Vasquez, farmer, and others

    If we get a 1st baseman via trade. We should go big or go home. There was an article I think on this site with the idea of Alonso coming to the twins. Don't think we have or would want to give up what's needed to make that trade. Besides the article stated that we would make the trade good enough for the Mets to pay his whole salary. That won't happen. But there are other teams that have what we need. I like the idea of platooning what players we have. Besides Salano is still a possibility. If he would take a little less money. We first need to solve the pitching issue. And it would be better served if we use our assets for a trade for that.

    I agree with Tony and Rodney. We are so close. Trade the four players he mentioned ,and dobnak and larnach. That takes our roster to 79 million. If we spend 140 million. That gives us 61 million to spend. We could make a big splash on at least one pitcher and have room for all the other basic needs.

    Yes bring back maeda. I think we should see if he will take 13 to 14 million a year. Offer three years with a club buy out option on the third year. Maybe 5 million. That should be attractive enough to get him back. Then bid heavy on Yamamoto the Japanese pitcher. In the mean time trade our number 3 prospect, Kepler, Polanko, Vasquez and what ever else we need to get Alonso from mets and a cheaper backup catcher. Oh, I should mention make the deal sweet enough for Cohen to pay most of not all of Alonso's 22 million. What does everyone think? Could we pull that off? Why or why not?

    Like the trade for burnes . He should come back strong. Also Miranda is backup 3rd or 1 st. at best .

    Why can't we get Taylor back? He could accept probably about 8 to 10 million. I've heard talk of kiermier being someone we are looking at. He will cost between 13 to 16 million. They are both equal fielders in my mind. Taylor has more power and more stolen bases. But less avg. And obp. The other guys mentioned are a step back in defense. We had a good formula great pitching, defense. We now need two good bats to make a real run at it.

    Why do we only do a qualifying offer? Couldn't we see if we could offer sonny gray a 23 one year deal. We at least know what we are getting. And if you think every pitchers going to get hurt. You end up doing nothing. And if not him Maeda should have another good year in him. He can't be more than ten million a year. If we got Màeda back for 10 we would be about 127 million. Trade Polanko, and minor league players for either bullpen help or a big bat. If we play our cards right we could have enough for cf and 1st base.

    This only an idea. I'm not even sure it should be done by any team. But I thought it would be fun to get comment. What about Trevor Bauer?

    I think your making things too complicated. Ryan is picked out for game one. If he fails you can go with either maeda or paddock. But I also would prefer over instead of paddock. Let's face it if you use maeda in the first game as a starter he's done for games two and three. He might not be good for game four. Ryan would then be forced into game four start. And what do we do if we need long men in two or three. I like the combo of players they choose. I would still put over on the roster. Stevenson would be pulled off for buxton only.

    5. What do we do with outfielders if they are all back? Do we put Gallow on playoff roster? If buxton comes back with just a handfull of games left, will he do any better than he did? He batted .207 this year. Do we leave him off the roster?

    The the twins have injuries, I think we pay him and hope he. Stays healthy the early part of the season. We could then trade him. I see we could get good value in a trade. Besides I think we have room for him with buxton and kirloff going thru what they have with injuries.

    I would go big or go home. Out of this group I like hicks or Robertson. If we could I like to get a hader or bednar. But they might cost too much. But with the later pair you would need just one them. You could then put all your effort towards a right handed bat.

    I wanted Cron even when we let him go. He should have been at first instead of Sano. Back then we could have gotten something for Sano. Maybe a couple of those big buckets of bubble gum. I agree send Gallow packing, maybe Kepler too. Should get prospects for them. Or use on of them for a trade for Cron.

    I wanted Pham 3 years ago. I liked his attitude at the time. He said after a down year that he knew he hadn't earned a large contract . His statement was he had to get healthy and do better. I liked his total skill set at the time. He had some kind of surgery and had a lot of stitches.. he needed a lot of healing time. He's not as fast as he used to be, but he's not slow either. We still need to better arms in the bullpen.

    It will take using some prospects and maybe a major league player. Would the Cardinals need an outfielder. Gallow or Kepler could go, not both though. We have outfielders and infielders in abundance. The first issue is always will the other team trade. Second do we have anything they need or want. Then we can consider weather we can get it done. Remember the twins hang onto players too long. Then when they reach the majors they end up being paid too much for the twins pocket books. Then the player gives us 2 or 3 serviceable years and they are gone. My idea is unless the team has a losing record. Trade some pcs. and make a run at it. We could also use a lefty in the bullpen. Enter Chapman? What players does everyone think would get the card"s player?

    Buxton will either be ready at some point or it will never happen. And at trade deadline we will look for relief help and another bat. Probably a right hander. Knowing the front office. We will not get a sure fire superstar. And if we do , where does he play? Usually we get either rebuilds or someone with some baggage. Either way he may end up dh. So Buxton will have to get his glove and get in the game.

    EI like Kepler, but your nuts if you think he's one of the best. You say with a average year he will be 7th. best. How about having 2 good years. Let alone back to back good years. I've seen him to many times come up in big situations and get an out when we had a great chance to score runs. All new stats drive me nuts. If your average is high enough you have a good on base percentage. If you get on base and other players do the same your in scoring position. If if continues you score runs. Easy as that. Look at our guy we sent to Miami. Look at his slg. percentage.

    One position we need pretty soon would be a good hitting first baseman. We are not deep at that position. I think sabato will have a O.P.S. in the mid 700's range. Maybe even the 800 range. That should be good enough to be on the forty man roster. And we likely will trade some players by the deadline. I can't believe we will hang on to all the outfielders we have.

    Dobnack shows some promise. But he might split time between AA/AAA this year. I count 12 starters between AAA and the majors. I think he needs to restart his trip up the ladder. It's most important to get his health in check. Then the rest could fall into place.

    I agree maybe we could get another arm. Maybe we are waiting for a trade to clear room on the 40 man. I'm sure management is still talking to teams.
