  1. There are two reasons I hated the Giolito-Eaton trade: the Twins have to face Giolito a lot, and the Nats don’t get to have him in the rotation. Eaton has helped make up (a bit) for the Harper departure, but that is one I am sure Russo would like back.
  2. It kind of seems like a guy named Magill should be playing for a team in Canada.
  3. I’m still trying to get my mind around this one.
  4. dammitdammitdammit
  5. So will Jorge and Marwin bat right? Dave’s top tens are supposed to start with 10 and count down....
  6. I loved sniglets, back in the day. The only I seem to remember is “bedwinds” which (unlike what you might imagine) are the winds that keep a sheet from landing square on the bed when you are making it. Also, back in my day, the front seat of the car was a bench, Kirby Puckett batted lead-off, Herb Carneal called the game, and the reliever were delivered to the mound in a golf cart fashioned to sort look like a baseball hat.
  7. I still want to see him start. He’s had a mediocre year. All is not lost. In some ways I’m glad he’s out of options next year, as they will be forced to give him a chance to make it in the bigsz
  8. I think he’s getting the call, and it will either be Tuesday, Aug 27 in Chicago or Friday, August 30 against Detroit. He didn’t pitch Sunday, and only has two appearances for Rochester, so I imagine they would like to see him get 1-2 more chances before the call-up. Price is a bit of an odd comp for him, but I get the premise. I think we should temper expectations for him a bit.
  9. The fine folks in Cedar Rapids must be thrilled to see Buxton play there for a couple of games. And I’m sure the players are excited too, and are looking forward to a nice meal paid for by Byron!
  10. Whoops. Sorry. I guess I didn’t really pay attention.
  11. I think, sometimes, in the midst of a gamethread, it is a bit easy to have a Chicken Little mentality. In the final analysis, the Twins managed to score six runs on seven hits off of Jackson over five innings, somewhat remarkably causing his ERA to increase from the 8.46 mark he had at game time! Anyway, this team, and specifically this offense, is no joke.
  12. While it is a huge blow to Colts fans, I give Andrew Luck a lot of credit for realizing he needed to step away. It takes courage to do that, and it is going to take courage to deal with the aftermath of this decision, as well. I hope that he does not second guess. Joe Mauer had tons of critics (around these parts, even), despite playing his whole career as a Twin, achieving dizzying heights, earning (earning) a huge contract, suffering debilitating, career-altering injuries, and continuing to play on even as a shell of his former self. He didn’t deserve a lot of the poor treatment he got.
  13. Great post, very thoughtful and on point. When I heard the news about Luck I immediately thought of Robert Smith. I think the conversation can certainly include concussions that catchers suffer in baseball, but there is a world of difference, in my view, in general between football and baseball. Football is a sport that absolutely destroys amazing athletes, especially RBs and QBs, leaving them with a shell of their former selves once they retire. That’s just not the case with baseball.
  14. How long before they call this game?
  15. Will be anywhere from 1.5 to 3.5 games ahead by the time they play again. Cleveland gets to play Stroman and Syndergaard in the meantime. Seems like a familiar story to win one game in a blowout and lose the series.
  16. Doesn’t Skole seem like a player that should be on Minnesota, not Chicago?
  17. Can we get Bigwig or General Woundwort in the mix, or at least Hazel?
  18. I thought Royce Lewis had 80 speed.
  19. Get ahead in the count, I’m pretty sure. The announcers were also touting how he had thrown first pitch strikes for a majority of the batters of the game.
  20. Here is a slightly related question. What is the stance on “the air conditioner is on, please roll up your windows?” This has always been thing, but why can’t we do both, if we want to?
  21. I am concerned. What flavor? Good game, tough loss, missed an opportunity to extend the lead to three and the winning streak to five. One bad pitch to Abreu really hurt. While we are saluting the suicide squeeze, very well could have been thanking them for the double play. I also think McCann blocked the plate, but it was a helluva play by both third base and catcher. Good send.
