    I'm just glad that Meyer is back in the AAA rotation and not the bullpen. Hope he can continue to put together good starts.

    I like Park too. I was pleasantly surprised when word trickled out that so many teams that hadn't put in the winning bid weren't the Twins, and that...slowly...it became possible, and then a reality, that the Twins had won the bid. What's odd to me though, is to really think about the fact that the Twins brass said they didn't expect to win the bid, were surprised, and had to figure out what to do after it became reality. What does that mean? It means, if you think about it, that they put in a bid that they were fairly sure wouldn't win. They weren't really trying to get him at all. To me, that seems like an indictment of their approach. Not only are they not really trying to go after elite players, but they also want to put in low bids to be able to say "they tried." It's kind of reminiscent of offering Hunter and Santana half their market value. "But guys, we tried to get them to stick around!"

    Except that they admitted that they didn't expect to get Park, and they didn't know what to do with their roster once he got there, resulting in moving their top young player to a position he has never played an inning of in his life, and no one his size in the history of baseball had succeeded in the outfield before. Not sure if that's a scenario deserving of too much credit.

    Good points. But I don't think it is so much that he is fine with failure, just that he doesn't demand they strive to be the best. They target average players, rarely, if ever, elite players. There have been numerous posts about how the Twins have invested a lot of innings throwing players into positions they have never played before at any level. And doing it at the major-league level, against the best in the world. I think Molitor should be included in this list, having never managed before.

    Maybe trade Nolasco to the Tigers? How would you feel if your favorite team signed Jordan Zimmermann and Mike Pelfrey to multi-year contracts in the same off-season? Is that a net positive?

    This comment is absolutely spot on. I had to search back through the thread to pull it back up. Really questionable overall approach to developing young players. I think you could add Arcia to this list. Eddie Rosario, on the other hand, is one of the few Twin prospects that has gotten the consistent playing time that is needed to establish himself.

    Yeah, you are right. But my therapist is the guy who hit the comebacker, and never lets me hear the end of it.

    Are you sure about this? The last game of my Little League "career," I was pitching for Dairy Queen against the vaunted First Bank and Trust, who were older, bigger, and we had no business beating. It was the bottom of the last inning (6th), two outs, and I got a comebacker. A short flip to Chad at first for the win. However, I airmail the throw. A few batters later (with me still pitching) we lose the game. Eerily similar to Sunday. Anyway, I'd go 50/50 Vargas/stay at 14 pitchers. Because adding both of those options would make the least sense roster-construction-wise.

    Sano really crushed that ball to center. And Werth made a helluva catch on that Buxton homer. Twins showed a bit of life there and almost made a game of it. At least my second favorite team won.

    So, once Sano doesn't get any starts at 3B while Plouffe is out....it's just stubbornness, right? The Manager and/or Front Office just trying to prove that they are right in moving Sano to RF?

    Ok, so let me ask the question again, after Meyer's first start in AAA...who has the greater chance of getting a start in the Twins' rotation this year, Meyer, or May?

    I'm still amazed that there was a purported 3-2 vote split on Meyer starting / relieving this year, with Molitor being one of the "bullpen" votes. If that vote had gone the other way and they had put him in the bullpen to start the season (**cough May**), the possibilities presented by the outing last night would have been completely missed, likely for months, if not all year. It was just one start, I get it. But the TD community had really written Meyer off after last year, which I thought was unjustified. Players have bad years. Hopefully Meyer will build on this start and get a chance to crack the Twins rotation this year.
