  1. He hits the ball really friggin hard and is extremely solid with scoops at first base and on pop ups. Very good addition to the team, for cheap.
  2. Kepler’s OPS climbed 66 points last night, going from .814 to .880. In the American League there are 40 hitters with an OPS of at least 800. The Twins Gabe six: Polanco, Kepler, Rosario, Cron, Buxton, and Schoop. Not included on that list: Garver, Castro, and Cruz...not because they don’t, but because they don’t have enough ABs to qualify. Nine batters at .800+.
  3. How about a slight tweak to the article title: Albert Pujols: Fading Superstar
  4. I didn’t really think it through very much, honestly. However, I think 6-0 vs 1-2-3 is much more reflective of the current division standings than 4-2 vs 3-3.
  5. In football terms, the Twins are 6-0 and have ten games left, including both games against Cleveland.
  6. WHAT IS THIS “PREVIOUSLY”?!? ALWAYS WAS ALSO, TWINS DOOMED
  7. Twins year by tens 6-4 7-3 6-4 6-4 9-1 6-4 New set of ten starts today. Keep rolling, boys.
  8. TWO STRAIGHT LOSES!!1! LEAD UNDER TEN!! AROGANCE OVER BIG JUNE LEAD! TOO MANY PEOPLE SAYING NICE THINGS ABOUT THE TWINS / THAT THE DIVISION IS RAPPED UP!!! BULLPEN DISASTER!! NO KIMBREL!!1! LOSEING ON PUDDLY FEILDS
  9. Interesting article on him on the Athletic. He didn’t attend any of the big showcase events, Perfect Game, Area Code games, so he was largely unknown. The Twins started going to all of his games this spring, 35 in all. They were really focused on him (which should be obvious that they took him earlier than he was projected.) We’ll never know, but wondering how many guys they would have taken AHEAD of Cavaco had they fallen?
  10. I predict they only draft pitchers in day 3.
  11. This series doesn’t set up well—rookie going in game 1, then Carrasco and Bauer, in Cleveland. We might want to hold off on the coronation just yet (John and Aaron spent the entire Sunday podcast proclaiming the division was essentially over), and see if they can eke our one victory in this series.
  12. Canterino, Rice #1 RH pitcher with a great slider.
  13. The Nats are 7 games out on June 3, and just won 7 of their last 10. Why would they be selling, again? THEY could really use Kimbrel. As for the topic at hand, I’d certainly like to see the Twins sign either of these guys.
  14. Is this a thing?: Marwin “More Win” Gonzalez. Also, let’s see if the Twins can pull off the same trick they did against Houston earlier: win a four game series while scoring fewer runs. This series, the Rays have outscored the Twins 19-14. (Actually, I think the Twins and Astros scored the same number of runs in that four game set. I’d take a five-run victory today...)
  15. Four things: 1. Who hits more homers this year, Buxton (6) or Sano (5)? (I know the answer to this question, but it reminds me of the year Rosario out-homered Sano in the minors—that seemed like a fluke, but maybe it wasn’t so flukey after all?) 2. Actually, Sano has 6 homers. Just as we should ignore the Thursday game entirely, let’s just count Sano’s homer/not homer. 3. Wasn’t Sano supposed to be in great shape? Seems like he isn’t really that svelte right now. 4. The conclusion I draw from this discussion and watching Sano play for these couple of weeks is a bit different from what seems to be brought up so far: He’s hitting quite well DESPITE only getting ~50 plate appearances and not really getting into the groove. He doesn’t seem that confident at the plate yet to me right now. It seems to me that if really warms up—watch out! It also occurs to me that he hasn’t really gotten to spend much time around Nelson Cruz yet, and I still think that is going to have a positive impact on him.
  16. Yikes—THAT’S what the Nats bullpen needs!
  17. I just want to note the name “Yeltsin Encarnacion.” Also, good job Gordon, Raley, Rortvedt, Jeffers, Blankenhorn, Larnach, and Diaz. Quite a few of the kids had very good months! Now let’s hope Royce Lewis gets going.
  18. There sure were a lot of chicken littles out during the game thread. Great come from behind victory on the road against a good team and a good bullpen. And doing it while losing a surefire home run to ballpark “quirks” (and bad homeplate umpiring too) to boot. Now, on to the business at hand—win game two of the series!
  19. If it hits the roof in fair territory, it’s a live ball. If it hits in foul territory, it’s foul. Of course, you could make an argument for everything in that place being foul, I suppose...
  20. Aside from the fact that the ball was going to be a home run — his second home run at that field Sano has not gotten credit for! — how in the world can they allow the ball to be catchable after it hits a speaker? You can’t catch a ball off the wall and record an out. At a minimum it shouldn’t be an out. What would make more sense is a ground rule double...or even a ground rule triple. Dumb place, dumb rule. I’d like to see the projected distance of that one. (The one a few years back was mammoth.)
  21. Lindor is like poetry in motion, especially on that play.
