    Brantly didn't get in until the 9th. Indians 15 straight. Twins two straight wins. Good game. Got lucky in the 9th on the pop up down the line and the not-caught foul tip on Grossman. Hated the bunt by Polanco in the 8th. Especially with cold Rosario and Buxton coming behind. But in general, if you are counting on one hit out of two batters, why not count on that with one fewer out in the inning? It worked out in the end, but that was a poor choice by Molitor. Man, I want Sano to get back.

    I've got a crazy theory that inherited runners, if they score, should count towards the former and latter pitcher, on a proportional basis. So if Presley relieves Colón with men on second and third, and both score, for the runner on second, I would give Colón 0.5 runs towards his ERA, and Presley 0.5 towards his. For the runner on third, I would give 0.75 to Colón and 0.25 to Presley. It's not a perfect system, by many measures...but it's better than the current system, which doesn't make any sense at all.

    Here are post All-Star stats for the four main rotation members; Ervin, Berrios, Bartolo, and Gibson: ES: 10 GS 4.04ERA, 62.1IP, 61H, 57K,18BB,1.27 WHIP JB: 10 GS 4.67ERA, 52ip,48H, 53K, 17bb,1.25 BC: 10GS, 3.94, 61.2ip, 76h, 38k, 11bb, 1.41 KG: 8GS, 3.64, 47IP, 49H, 44k, 14bb, 1.34 He has a "repeat" performance tonight against the Royals. Let's hope he can keep this run going.

    While they've lost 3 of 4, they just completed a 4-2 homestand and lost the opening game of a road trip. They have a lead for the last wild card game, and plenty of games left. Get 'em tomorrow night...let's get the bats going. (And yes, getting Sano back would be ok too.)

    Yes, it is possible. It is also possible your refrain is getting old. Nick brings up some interesting points in the article worth noting. Gibson pitched a 3.90 ERA in 5 August starts. Getting 12.5% swinging strikes is a big deal - and it has helped him get out of some innings that he has otherwise been unable to escape. If he really redid his motion, that is a big deal, and it makes sense that it would take a long time to solidify. Gibson also confirmed that he moved to a different spot on the rubber, giving himself a better angle. Gibson has certainly been teetering for awhile. But maybe he isn't quite ready to get off the merry-go-round yet.

    Hope it is nothing. Much rather shut him down than have him pitch in the minor league playoffs and risk serious injury.

    I don't know if the corner has turned for good, but he looks more relaxed and less anxious. Each time he advanced a level in the minors he had an adjustment period. The majors adjustment was just a bit longer. Interesting comment by Rowson about hitting coming from aggressiveness, too.

    The Twins have played 12 games in 10 days, and after today will have played 13 games in 11 days. They've gone 7-5 in those games. Get a win today and they are 8-5 and have the wild card lead heading into an off day and a home stand. Come on Kyle!

    Sometimes I wonder whether the multi-year process of minor leagues is really necessary. It's in the major league club's interest to have a player debut in the majors by 24-25, so they get all of the prime years relatively inexpensively. And players clearly improve as they move up the ranks. But for a player like Rooker, it does make me at least a bit curious to wonder what he would do if he were inserted into the DH position of the Twins line-up. I'm sure he'd strike out a bunch. But isn't it possible he would go all Aaron Judge for 100 at bats in September?

    Byron Buxton sacrifice bunting is like a semi-bluff in poker. You have outs (um, bad word choice) either way.

    Gagne Fan, BABIP is a great stat to provide, because when a ball gets hit into play, over the course of a season and career, about 30% of those balls turn into outs, no matter if you are Pedro Martinez or Mike Pelfrey. So for those starts, Gonsalves should have given up 5 hits in six innings last night, and five hits in the three (lousy) innings he pitched the other day against Louisville. And if he were pitching in front of the Twins defense, as many have speculated he would have been the last couple of times through the Twins rotation (ahem, Tim Melville), there is a good chance some of the extra bass hits he gave up would have found leather. More importantly, Gonsalves has struck out 22 batters and walked 6 in the 22 innings he has pitched in AAA. It's quite possible that he was let down pitching in AAA against Louisville last week, when he very plausibly could have been making his major league debut (in a wild card race, to boot.) No one has argued that Gonsalves is the next coming of Clayton Keisha's, but here's hoping he gets a start for the Twins in the next couple of weeks, and does well as his track record portends.
