    They play Northwestern and Wisconsin. If they win both, they will play the winner of Penn State - Ohio State for the Big Ten Championship. If they win all three, they will be 12-1 and have wins against Penn State, Wisconsin and Ohio State or two against Penn State. Do they get to the BCS?

    I would happily take any two of Strasburg, Bumgarner, Wheeler, Ryu, or Hamels. And if the Twins could only land one, I’d prefer them in that order.

    Verlander and Greinke were acquired via trade.

    How about: Wheeler 4/88 Hamels 1/20 + mutual option for 1/15 And explore the trade market. I’d be fine with having them fill out the final two roster spots internally: Brusdar Thorpe Balazovic And I wouldn’t write off these guys as rotation possibilities: Romero Gonsalves And then finally, maybe Smeltzer or Dobnak, but not as high on their prospects.

    Sorry, Bumgarner pitched a complete game 5 and then relieved for 5 shutout innings in game 7.

    That was the worst umpiring call I’ve ever seen in a World Series game. The umps were lucky that Rendon hit that home run.

    That was an absolutely awful strike three call on Robles. The ump was clearly influenced by Cole’s histrionics over the Zimmerman ball 4 (which was a ball). Automate balls and strikes calls now.

    Well, that was a great experience going to the first World Series game ever in Nats Park with my son, and first WS game for either of us. Tough to see them lose, but the atmosphere was amazing. I will say, once they got down the crowd lost a lot of steam. In the ninth inning, a bunch of people in my section didn’t even bother to stand up and egg on a rally. I mean, you’re at the World Series, you’re down three, man on, Rendon and Soto up, and you can’t even be bothered to stand up? It would have been fun to see a Nats home run. Everyone in the stands was given a bracelet that lit up. I assumed the lights in the stadium would have gotten shut off and a light display was planned. Anyway, still a great time, and a fun moment to share with my son.

    Checking in from Nats Park.... N - A - T - S Nats! Nats! Nats! (It’s my home team, my NL team, and hell, the organization has been great, with my sons meeting many players over the years through their connection and outreach to Capitol Hill Little League.)

    ATTENTION downtrodden Twins Daily regulars! I’m leaving the country. I didn’t think it would have to come to this, but it has. For Monday’s game, I will literally be on an airplane leaving the United States. I won’t get back into the country until the series is over. It’s a work trip. You are welcome. You are welcome in advance for the change in the Twin’s fortunes, and you are welcome for the thrilling come-from-behind/oblivion series win. It’s a sacrifice of great proportion on my part, and frankly one that I am not that happy to make, this being the Twins first division title in ten years, but what has to be done, has to done. Baseball history is full of long-suffering fandoms, unbreakable curses, and seemingly insurmountable odds. The long suffering ends, the curses get broken, and the odds are overcome. There is no clock in baseball. Games don’t end until the 27th out is recorded. Series aren’t over until one team closes out the final victory. I refer you to the long history between the Red Sox and Yankees leading up to the ninth inning of Game 4 of the 2004 ALCS, when unanimously elected Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera had the lead. For a more recent example, I note the Chicago Cubs’ franchise history and century of being the (real) lovable losers. We don’t even need to go back further than Tuesday night, when the Nats, who hadn’t won a post-season series of any kind since moving to DC from Montreal, trailed the Brewers with Josh Hader on the mound. Remember when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? It’s always darkest before the dawn.

    Ok. Through six. Need May, Romo and Rogers to shut them out. The offense needs to put together an inning or two, starting now with the top of the order. Garver, shake of the nerves and play some ball.

    They just showed the slow-mo replay of the Polanco single. The bat didn’t vibrate a single bit. Could not have hit it more square.
