    It seems like he has gone up there in multiple at bats recently with a plan of taking pitches until he either gets one strike or two strikes. With as few strikes pitchers throw him, it is a good way to get a walk, or at a minimum a good way to drive up the opposing pitcher’s pitch count.

    So for tonight, I’d say....Thorpe for 4, May for 2, Harper, Romo and...some other guys? Clippard starting for the Indians. Play loose and hang a big number of him! I’d say they hit at least 3-4 homers in the night cap.

    Would like to see Devin Smeltzer pitch six innings, give up two runs, and leave the game with the lead, which is held by the pen. Then a chance to bury Cleveland with a bullpen win in the nightcap.

    I started to read the intro without seeing who posted it. I got to “nurse three fingers” before concluding it was Dave. Well done, sir. I feel as though the Twins should have noted that there was a chance the game wouldn’t get completed last night, and held Odorizzi for today. That way you guarantee to get his start. Anyway, adversity! Let’s see what the boys have got in terms of resilience.

    (I’m doing the math, I see that Davis and Larnach tie with 39 points each, but shouldn’t 4 out of 6 first place votes pretty clearly break the tie?)

    Meanwhile, the Twins hit 23 homers off of Baltimore in their six matchups, almost four per game. Extrapolate that over 19 games, and they would have hit 73 homers against Baltimore.

    The Yankees hit 61 home runs against the Orioles in their 19 match-ups this year.

    Realistically, the Twins need to win at least one game of the three in Cleveland, and then take care of business against Detroit, KC and Chicago. For the record would be good to notch that win tonight. (And I would accept more than one win against Cleveland.)

    I think you misspelled the hitter of the year, it’s spelled J-A-Y-L-I-N. Or at least that’s what the voting (and performance) indicates. I’m guessing you didn’t want to give the award to a player no longer in the Twins system, which is fair. Thanks for putting together the article. Not as strong a set of performances as the pitchers, but then again, the big league club needs pitching a lot more than hitting. (And note the conspicuous absences of Kiriloff and Lewis...)

    By Sunday evening, the Twins will be anywhere from 0.5 games ahead of the Indians to 7.5 games ahead of the Indians. However, 12 of the 16 possible outcomes leave them anywhere from 2.5 to 5.5 games ahead. They will only be under 2 games ahead if they are swept, and similarly, they will only be more than 6 ahead if they sweep.

    The Nats were recently down 10-4 in the bottom of the ninth and won 11-10. Would be nice for the Twins to pull one of those.

    Disagree on the Pineda extension, personally. Although it certainly didn’t stop them from extending Polanco. Hope they play tonight.

    While are a lot of heavy hitters on TD, I have to say SQUIRREL in particular really punches above her weight.

    To me the biggest part of this win, and last Saturday against the Indians, is the resilience of the team after gut punches. Lose Pineda, face Cleveland after a series opening loss, face Clevingee to face on Sunday, and they win the game, backed by a big game for Odorizzi. Yesterday, lose Buxton, have already lost 1.5 games in two days to Cleveland, and Berrios comes up huge. Those were the two biggest wins of the season, in my opinion. With rain on the horizon, Cleveland could have been 3.5 games back heading into this weekend if the Twins hadn’t won yesterday.

    That’s crazy. Not only that, but yesterday was 9-10-19, a palindromic day.
