  1. I don't mind the Romine thing at all. I remember as a kid seeing José Oquendo do it for the Cardinals and thinking it was kind of cool. It's a game. I certainly don't think it warranted the kind of constant complaining Beemer did throughout the game...while they covered it faithfully, complete with checkmark graphics. I will dispute, though, that it didn't matter. Since they were playing the Romine bit, they had to try to win to avoid being criticized as a farce (for example if Romine had pitched an inning and given up the lead). It did matter, as the Tigers just fell out of a tie for the first draft pick; winning while the Giants lost. So thank you for this parting gift, Brad Ausmus!
  2. Actually, can they install small fans in the flowers boxes that only operate in the top half of the inning?
  3. Detroit has an incentive to lose all of the games this weekend; they have one more win than SF for the top draft pick.
  4. Twins fans be like....[insert Wendy Pfeffercorn picture here]
  5. Let me fix that for you.... This is a thread.
  6. Who cares? Not me. Actually, kind of disappointed they didn't get shut out on hangover day. Damn you Mitch "Triple" Garver!
  7. How about those little cards that all of the outfielders consult before each hitter? I don't remember those last year.
  8. You left out the most brilliant move: retaining Molitor!
  9. Was this game over when the Bulgarians built Rome in a day? Hell no!
  10. It's not so much the practicing of moderation, per se, it's more about always being in it. I hate all of the g**d*** moderators around this place.
  11. I think we shoul all agree that the mantra for this postseason (which absolutely starts with the Wild Card game, and is absolutely to be celebrated) is: "Over? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Bulgarians built Rome in a day? Hell no!"
  12. I don't think I've seen you either, Brian. Or at least, I'm not going to admit to it. I don't know when productivity ceases in the day, Joe M., but I will contend that it dwindles greatly during October, when your team is in the playoffs.
  13. Well damn, that trendline is gone to hell. Twins score double digits against the Tiger in three of the four games....and would you look at that, Gibson, of all people is the only one who didn't get 10+ runs! September for Gibson: 5 games, 4-0, 2.81 ERA, 1.03 WHIP. Since the All-Star Game, a 3.58 ERA over 12 starts. The Twins have won 9 of those 12 games. He has been a big reason the Twins are heading to the Wild Card Game.
  14. Notable that 8 games over 500 marks a high water mark for the season (got there once before as well). 4-2 finishing kick would get them to 10 over.
  15. I suppose. I'm more looking forward to discussing how he won it.
  16. I believe it said "the Dominicans are with you." Nice win. Keep it rolling tomorrow, Kyle.
  17. I don't think 85 will be necessary. The Angels just lost their 76th game, meaning they can max out at 86 wins. They need to go 9-1 to get to 85. On the downside, the Twins will have to scramble to get to 85 too.
  18. Hey, only one game away from the offense breaking out for double digits when Gibson starts again.
  19. Does this game mean we can stop talking about Garcia's win in Oakland? He's done the team as much harm as good this year. I'm not crying over the Granite bunt...but I didn't like it. You've got 9 outs left and a pitcher who has a hard time finding the strike zone. Don't give away one of those outs. (Plus, it would have been a cool story if Granite had gotten a big hit in New York. I liked his chances, with his short, choppy swing, and motivations...and the infield drawn in.)
  20. Agreed. Hated the bunt. Your playing to tie the game? What? Buxton jumped in the first pitch; if it hadn't been up and in, he might have hit it in the gap or out. Polanco squared up nicely. Mauer lefty vs lefty is tough, but I bet he gets another chance this series, and I bet Joe doesn't strike out again.
  21. By the way, the pitches Chapman struck out Mauer and Escobar with were both in the top 15 fastest pitches of 2017. (The rest all by Chapman). Of the others, there was one single and one home run (by Raphael Devers). That's just not easy to put in play,
  22. I imagine it is hard to hit 102.7 or 103.7 mph. If anyone can, I would have bet on Joe or Rosario. Polanco cranked that ball in the 9th. I also think Rosario's first swing was probably the hardest swing of the statcast era. Good game. Tough loss. Get em tomorrow (or Wednesday.)
  23. If the Twins can finish the season 7-6 (to get to 85), the Angels would need to go 9-4 to tie them. Seattle would need to go 11-1, while KC and Texas would need to go 12-1. Unless LA finishes the season (against strong competition) on a very strong run, it's starting to look like 84 wins may be enough to secure at least a tie for the last wild card spot Need at least six wins...with Santana and Berrios each getting 3 more starts.
  24. He's been hitting the ball hard; some of those hits were bound to go out sooner or later. I think he will hit at least one more this season, maybe more than that.
  25. Yawn. Another Gibson start in a situation which kind of felt "must-win," he once again cruises through scoreless 3rd through 6th innings, offense scores double digits, Twins get to choose which bullpen arm to give some work to, Twins win going away. Same old, same old.
