  1. Yikes. We went from using Wisler in openers last year (1.00 ERA and now Rays' closer), now to Burrows. Ugh.
  2. Ryan deserves a shot... and I wouldn't mind seeing Strotman. Perhaps they could piggy-back Strotman with Ober to cover in the innings, or something like that. It should go without saying I have no interest in seeing Shepherd or Albers pitching here.
  3. Emmanuel Rodriguez has hit 5 HRs in his first 60 PAs in the minors... not bad for an 18 year old. As for Palacios, I think it will come down to whether the FO thinks he can handle SS well enough. If he can, he should be protected and should see some time in AAA soon.
  4. Yeah, I agree. I think Julien and Palacios will make it up at some point, and I'm bullish on Varland.
  5. Another injury to a key pitching prospect... such is the 2021 season.
  6. Outside of Duffey and Thielbar, I’d legitimately take the AAA bullpen over the MLB one. Moran should be up now, Hamilton too.
  7. I do think you need to put the player’s whole minor league career into perspective, as Miranda didn’t hit all that well in the low minors. I could see people calling his 2021 season an outlier if his career doesn’t go well.
  8. With the addition of several new prospects into the Twins' farm system, I've gone a bit overboard and expanded my prospect rankings to a total of 50 players now... enjoy! Here is my new format: We're pretty deep in the weeds here, so let me know what you think. Oh, and yes, I know, I'm really low on Chris Vallimont. I know.
  9. I'm looking at his minor league track record, not where he was drafted. The MLB draft is notorious for being a complete crapshoot, and 4th rounders flame out all the time. It is one thing if the likes of Barnes and Jax fail, it is another if guys like Winder and Balazovic do too. If that happens, I will be panicking along with the masses.
  10. He PH'd yesterday, but had missed the previous 5 games with a "tight hamstring".
  11. If you're referring to Barnes, you won't find him on any prospect ranking... he's a AAAA filler guy. I'm perplexed by this too, there are several guys pitching well in AAA right now... Hamilton, Moran, Vasquez. Sure, those aren't great options, but it's better than Burrows/Minaya, plus Alcala might need some time in AAA after flopping hard this year.
  12. 2 errors in his first start... not good, but I’d guess he ends up in CF mainly in the bigs. We’ve learned this year you can never have too much OF depth.
  13. Maybe the Reds shouldn't have traded Rasiel Iglesias for pennies on the dollar in the offseason...
  14. Fangraphs' depth charts are the best place for it. Look under Options/Rule 5 Status - Dec '21 players will need to be added, plus already eligible ones who had strong seasons. Here is my list: The top 6 are must-haves to me, and I'd also protect Moran. I'm not high on Vallimont, but he probably will get protected. They may risk losing one of the SSs... I just don't think Javier will ever hit, so I'd prefer Palacios.
  15. I would guess it was simply regression... he had thrown something like 25 scoreless innings in a row earlier.
  16. They’ll have to leave room open for Rule 5 guys and free agents. This means borderline guys will be DFA’d, including the likes of Refsnyder, Tortuga, and a chunk of the current pitching staff. They may wait on Cano until 2022, but Moran will be Rule 5 eligible so he should be added and pitching here by September.
  17. Sad? Becoming a #4 starter is a fantastic outcome for a 12th round pick. And if they were to go on a playoff run, he could move to the pen and possibly gain a couple ticks on his fastball, likely increasing his K rate. This organization has a woeful track record with starting pitching, but Ober could be a sign of things to come.
  18. Kerrigan intrigues me as a bench OF with plus speed and a strong arm, but he will need to lay off the Ks (31.2% K rate). It will be difficult with the 40 man crunch coming this winter. That's not to say that we have an abundance of talent, but rather we have many fringe prospects to hoard / not hoard. Do you give up a spot that would have been spent on somebody like Barnes/Jax or a potential Rule 5 guy like Palacios/Javier to keep Kerrigan? Will the FO be more liberal in their Rule 5 protection now that Baddoo was a thing?
  19. Gant already had chances in the Cardinals' rotation and botched them. I'd keep him in the pen, and if he doesn't turn things around, DFA him once the season is over. I'd rather give starts to Jax and Barnes to see if they are worthy of being depth starters in 2022.
  20. For a free agent pickup, BJ Boyd is hitting pretty darn well, .289/.363 (.818 OPS). Not bad for a guy who hasn't played since 2018. I keep seeing Kala'i Rosario's name pop up here, and he's hitting really well .301/.352 (.882 OPS). He's at the bottom of my prospects spreadsheet, but I think he's a guy who could definitely jump up the rankings if he keeps playing well as he ages.
  21. I have many questions about Lewis' bat, especially since he didn't hit well in 2019 outside of Fall League, and has not gained experience in 2020 and 2021. I wouldn't be surprised if it takes him several years in the majors for his bat to reach its true potential. As for Martin, I have few doubts that he's going to be a hitter in the bigs.
  22. I'd call them a winner at the deadline, but it's a small win in regards to the massive loss that is the 2021 season.
  23. I am aware of that, but I think I'll go over what the 28 man roster could be in September in my 40 Man Roster Management thread. Miranda doesn't necessarily have to take one of the two new spots, there could be injury / or just play him over Tortuga.
  24. That seems to fly directly in the face of how the pitching staff has worked - we had top 10 ERAs in 2019 and 2020, and then the ball was deadened and we have a bottom 3 pitching staff in 2021. Do you believe that the juiced ball and un-juiced ball only affected the Twins' offense, and somehow not the pitching?
