  1. I thought it was just a month? I said “most” the year, alluding to the injury.
  2. Time for the final update to my prospect rankings: Any thoughts?
  3. I see Ryan, Miranda, and Moran on the team soon. Martin I do not see since he’s not R5 eligible and I think he’s not ready yet. No need to start his clock early.
  4. The contract's size and length was acceptable for Mauer's track record, but turned into a millstone once he sustained injuries and lost the ability to play catcher. As for Buxton... he already has an astronomical number of injuries and doesn't have anything close to the track record Mauer had at the plate (as a hitter). He's in his prime now and they'd be paying him in his 30s... I simply can't see an extension ending well for the Twins. It is a lose-lose situation for the Twins... if they extend him he likely won't be worth the money and Twins fans will moan like they did with Mauer. If they don't extend him, the fans will lament their inability to re-sign their homegrown talent.
  5. Having Simmons at SS is nice for the pitchers, but since he's unlikely to be back in 2022, why even bother? Miranda should be up in September and playing every day, no exceptions.
  6. Vallimont and Strotman are not getting it done as starters. Strotman needs more time and Vallimont is most likely a reliever. In my latest rankings I put Strotman in the 20s and Vallimont in the 40s, which so far seems justified.
  7. Agreed, Thorpe's stuff isn't what it used to be, and he does not possess the durability to last in a MLB pitching staff. He should not be retained on the 40 man over the winter.
  8. I think Enlow is a lock to be protected. Too much upside there. I don’t think Severino is worth protecting, I don’t think he gets claimed as a 2B with a decent minor league track record. Palacios is doing better at a higher level and can play SS, so I’d prefer him on the 40 man.
  9. He looks more like a 1B/DH type, but I could be wrong. I'd rather see him play in AAA and give Kerrigan (can handle CF) or Contreras (won a gold glove playing LF in the minors) a chance since they can hit and handle themselves defensively.
  10. Holy cow, 8 of 9 outs were Ks for Canterino. Wow. And no, don't sign me up for Andrew Albers. We have enough mediocre and old pitchers in our MLB club, and he's already had two stints with the Twins that went nowhere. There's no reason to try him out a third time.
  11. I did miss that, but I when I saw Palacios I thought you’d include Lewis. Anyways, I wouldn’t be surprised if we sign a SS on another one year deal and leave room for Lewis to take over full time in 2023.
  12. Royce Lewis should be on this list... I think they’re going to keep trying him at SS.
  13. Here are the updates for prospects #19 through 10:
  14. You get a HR, you get a HR, everyone gets a HR!!! *insert Oprah meme here*
  15. Sano has been significantly better than Kirilloff? They have virtually the same OBP and Sano's OPS is about 20 points higher. That's not to mention RISP situations: Sano: .187/.272 (.722 OPS) Kirilloff: .310/.349 (.815 OPS) And that's not mentioning the fact that Sano was practically demoted to a platoon in June, which coincidentally sparked his hot streak. Kirilloff was a rookie playing every day against most lefties. It's nice that Sano is hitting better now, but the first 3 months counted, and he was actively hurting the team. Fangraphs has him as a slightly below replacement level player this season. WPA doesn't like him either - I do like using the OPS, but it exaggerates the value of a power-only hitter.
  16. We’re not as bad as we thought... but good is a stretch. Turns out being rid of Shoemaker, Happ, and Robles in favor of others helped the team improve. Who woulda thunk?
  17. Ober finally had a good game vs the White Sox, huzzah!
  18. I think Molitor was OK as a manager... yeah he was a great player, but the team played considerably better after his firing and he hasn’t garnered a single interview for a manager role with another team. His bullpen usage was brutal at times - I know Rocco isn’t good at that either, but that doesn’t excuse Paul. He was also the manager of the total system failure team (that had some expectations, since 2015 went well). Personally I don’t believe managers make a big impact on W/Ls, but I don’t see what gave Paul a leg up on other managers.
  19. I am high on Sands and Steer. Urbina is doing alright for a 19 year old at A. Rooker needs more ABs, but I don’t like his chances.
  20. Oof... well done, Vanimal. It looks like Leviathan was on the mark in that thread. Talk about counting chickens before the eggs have hatched!
  21. I don't like the general idea that "2019 was a fluke". We played 165 games, that's not a small sample! Don't give me the juiced ball excuse. Every team in baseball had to grapple with it, including our pitchers. We did beat up on the dregs of the league and the AL Central (like any good team should), and looking by record, only 2 teams beat the Twins more than they did by 1 game. Meaning: Vs Yankees: 2-4 (plus 0-3 in playoffs) Vs Mets: 1-3 All other < .500 results were by a single game, e.g. Vs Indians 9-10 The Twins held their own against every other team in baseball except for the Yankees, and one series against the Mets. You can say the 2019 Twins were a "good not great" team, sure. But don't hand-wave the entire season away just because 2021 sucks (and it does). On another note, the complete lack of pitching coming from the minors is concerning. There are a lot of arms coming, but so many obstacles are blocking their way (mainly injuries, plus the pandemic) - and we had better hope a lockout doesn't happen in 2022. That'd throw out another season where our minor league pitching desperately needs. After 2021 I am in the neutral area, like many others here. I haven't lost faith in the FO, but quite a bit of the goodwill they've built up has been torched by this season, and a lack of doing anything in the playoffs in 2019 & 2020. While I don't expect them to go on a WS run in 2022, if this team is not developing prospects better and failing to right the wrongs of 2021, we will need to blow things up... at least in management.
  22. He's had a pretty lengthy injury history, wouldn't that explain a lot of it?
  23. If they're going to give extended auditions, then it had better be to the legitimate prospects like Cano and Moran and no to the wavier wire heap pickups like Burrows. I'm fine with trying waiver claims out, but I don't think we should waste many innings on these guys. The Tigers knew what they were doing, DFA'ing Burrows, even though he still had 2 option years left. We don't have a pitching staff that can magically turn these guys into something valuable, so no point in wasting time polishing a... you know what.
  24. I believe Falvine recently said that Royce Lewis is definitely a SS. I expect they will give him every opportunity to play there and see how his ACL recovers.
