  1. I don’t how others feel but I am getting concerned about Balazovic. He doesn’t seem to be gaining traction at AA and I believe he is 24 or 25. He’s been a prospect that has gotten a lot of attention and one that a lot were counting on to solve the pitching problem. Hopefully he doesn’t end up being the cautionary tale about prospect attrition.
  2. How do you buy low on the 13th ranked prospect in all of baseball?
  3. Excited about the bat to ball skills-I think this is what our lineup needs to offset all the swing for the fences guys. As far as position I sure hope the Twins find a spot of importance to excel. SS or CF preferably. Being mediocre at a bunch of positions is not what you should get for Berrios. As far as all the comps to other players I think all that stuff is overblown. All prospects are suspects until they aren’t.
  4. I like that he generally throws strikes. If he ends up being an effective #5 starter it would be a great bonus. He looked good against the Cards but we won’t know anything until the league sees him more.
  5. When will the statute of limitations run out on blaming Terry Ryan?
  6. With Scherzer off the market things should really get interesting for the Twins. There are enough teams with good prospects that we should get a haul.
  7. Again with the Falvey pitching whisperer bit? Our pitching staff is an abomination and he has developed exactly zero mlb pitchers. I do like the Gordon recognition
  8. All of these are light and mis guided. We need starting pitching prospects not relievers and SS that can’t stick at short. Berrios is the most valuable available trade piece at the deadline. If Berrios is traded the other team is going to need to hurt big time.
  9. I don’t see Jeffers or Garver rating that high. They are praised for their pitch framing but are pretty substandard traditional skills like blocking pitches and throwing.
  10. Obviously if all things are equal you want someone who throws harder but you can miss bats with movement and location as well. Berrios is a prime example. If he threw 97 instead of 93 he would be slightly better. If he had better command he would be an ace. Jorge Alcala isn’t going to get better by throwing harder he will get better by improving his control. If he doesn’t he won’t be any better than he is right now.
  11. This has become the most overrated factor ( was going to say crap) in modern baseball. There is so much more to effective pitching but people have one track minds on this topic. Here’s a wild thought: how about pitchers having an idea where they are throwing the ball?
  12. Should allow him to stick at shortstop. If I had a dollar for every time that gets tagged to a prospect I could buy the Twins. Players that can play legit SS in the big leagues are few and far between.
  13. Well that’s how front offices succeed or fail is the quality of their decisions. Pretty sure the Pohlads aren’t ignorant of the situation.
  14. Well yea I agree they screwed up. I do recognize that you can go only so far in getting rid of the contract. If you could have a get out of jail free card on this contract who wouldn’t take it?
  15. Because the Twins will have one large contract like this. I would not spend that on an injury prone 34 year old third baseman. He is nowhere close to being an indispensable player so I’m am being proven right.
  16. It was a horrible signing to begin with (check my posting history). If they can dump his contract they should in a heartbeat Ask nothing in return.
  17. I wish they would have faced their pitching problems last winter. Doesn’t matter now.
  18. This. A hundred times this. There is zero evidence that he has any special abilities in this area yet it keeps being repeated. For all we know he had nothing to do with Cleveland pitching development.
  19. One thing to remember tearing it down is no guarantee of future success. Everyone remembers the times it works and forgets about the times that it results in losing for a decade.
  20. It appears that this was a far bigger problem than anybody realized. It’s interesting to have the technology that can monitor it. JD is something. Kind of a loose cannon.
  21. I think the biggest factor is the execution of selling strategy. You can trade them all but you have to get the right pieces back. If I recall we don’t have any of the players we received. For me it boils down to this: do you trust the FO to successfully execute a selling strategy? For me the answer is I don’t know but I’m not real confident.
  22. All FO make mistakes. Sometimes I feel like fans have unrealistic expectations. I do think it is important to remember that Falvine inherited a good young almost complete line up plus a couple good pitchers.
  23. He has good value in that he can catch. That allows Rocco to pinch hit for a catcher. He is not an everyday player but he is really valuable in a bench role.
  24. Beautiful day at Target Field today. Very happy for Gordon and he made several nice plays in the field. It was interesting that Big Mike was pounding the zone and the game was moving along nicely. It ground to a halt when Robles came in. Some genius in their analytics department needs to tell Rocco that when your bullpen sucks running 3-4 relievers out there every game is not a recipe for success.
