  1. They finally addressed the bullpen & picked up a starter since everyone is hurt. Their biggest glaring need right now is 1B. Why they didnt jump all over Hosmer who the Padres paid Boston to take is beyond me?? A veteran presence, excellent fielder who has about the same #'s at the plate as. Correa does would have been a godsend. Fielding at 1B has already cost them. Let the starters pitch at least 6. Play small ball more. Bunt, steal, sacrifice. Somehow get everyone healthy. Hard to win when your entire outfield, half your starting pitching and a catcher are on the DL.
  2. Great that they made the moves to fill their most glaring needs. They finally dipped their toes in the "win now window of opportunity ". correa is a great player and an X factor, but I have said all along (and been proven right) they should have rolled the dice with Mjranda & Lewis to begin with and spent 35M on pitching before the season Lewis would still be playing SS as he wouldnt have gotten hurt playing out of position in CF. My only real question is how did they not go after Hosmer?? The Padres paid his entire contract AND gave away two good prospects to the Red Sox to take him. With both of our 1B out and the fill ins (Arraez & Miranda) playing out of position and making mistakes, a veteran prescence like Hosmer would have been a godsend! As much as we love Arraez as a hitter, he is a one tool player with no speed, a bum knee and a poor fielder. Urshela needs to back up SS, platoon with Miranda at 3B. Miranda would then back up Hosmer at 1B. Sano is done & Kiriloff looks to be as well. Oh well, it is what it is now. They need Buxton, Lanarch, Kepler & hopefully Kiriloff back now that their pitching may give them a chance.
  3. None of this means diddly without a bullpen. Get two top Bullpens arms, or forget it.
  4. The Twins are likely out of the Major starter trade market (how did the Yankees get Montas for one potential good player). That said, go after at least two of the available quality bullpen guys. Much cheaper trade value and by Far our most glaring weakness. Hope the starters keep you in the game and then turn it over to an actual functional bullpen. Their best chance for any postseason success. 5 innings of Montas or anyone would mean nothing without a bullpen to back them up.
  5. Ah, NO. Its all about the bullpen. These days hardly any starters go more than 5 innings. Especially the Twins. We have plenty of starters who keep us in the game through 5, thats were the swing & miss flamethrowers that trams like the Yankees, Houston, Dodgers, Padres have come in and win the game.
  6. This bullpen is Indeed worthy of a Borrowicz satire. I think TCBear needs to carry around a fire extinguisher
  7. We needed to add to Roger's, not subtract him. Falvey trading him is a disaster. Why he got greedy over young starting pitching talent is beyond belief. That is the one thing we have. First Alcala for Pressley & now Roger's for nothing and you have a team with great potential missing its window yet again. Can we a least start with DFA Pagan and then trade for an actual closer or 3.
  8. Tiday is Exactly what will happen and take the heart out of ANY team when you parade this bullpen out onto the field. Get two.good arms or leave Falvey.
  9. As I have said many times here, we should have rolled the dice with Miranda & Lewis and spent 35M on the Bullpen. That said, trading Correa for anything but an Ace closer makes no sense! Now that Lewis is out, (because we foolishly played him in an unfamiliar position) we have no choice but to keep Correa and make some trades for bullpen help.
  10. I've been screaming bullpen for years now. Falling on deaf Falvey ears apparently. "Flamethrowers that miss bats" Lol, that is the best way to describe what the top playoff teams have and we don't. It's that simple Falvey.
  11. We have one of the best base stealing coaches in the game available in Paul Molitor. Use him!! Where all the electrifying 30 - 30 players? Buxton could clearly be one. 3 straight strikeouts in the 10th last night epitomizes the lack of small ball tactics.
  12. NO way to any of those! German has fallen off 2 straight years & has a big contract? A younger guy with good stuff who isn't doing well? (Paddack, anyone?) If we get Ober, Winder, even Maeda back, we will be fine for starters. None of them pitch more than 5 innings anyways these days. It is and always will be from now on about the Bullpen. One need look no further than the playoff teams the last couple of years. All had a bevy of flame throwers & a filthy closerback at the back end. End of story.
  13. It's all about bullpen today and ours isnt good at all. Lewis at SS & 35M in the pen & we would have had a shot.
  14. That's what they get when they play someone out of position. Injured. Lewis Likely would not have gotten Injured if they had simply rolled the dice with him at short to begin the season. Imagine how much better this team would be if we spent $35M on the Bullpen Instead of Correa. Sigh.
  15. They better not trade Kiriloff!! With Lewis now out, there is a little less of a logjam. Gordon or Miranda are the odd man out for Kiriloff to come up Until they reduce the Bullpen #'s. Trade someone for good relief pitching, NOT a starter. Even good starters only go 5-6 innings. It's ALL about relievers today.
  16. 5 homeruns off Cole and we lose 10-7. Exactly as expected with that horrible bullpen.
  17. Agreed on Buxton. A month ago he was on fire. At a recent game I attended I watched as his backleg seemed oddly bent in the batters box and he was completely off balance and leaning forward. He hit weak ground balls with an upper body arms only swing. Nothing at all like the guy crushing everything in early May. Put him on the IL, keep Celestino & bring up Kiriloff. What to do with Arraez? Love him as a hitter, hate him as a zero speed, no power, poor fielder. DH & occasional backup at 2nd. Means trade Gordon for BP help as he is out of options. Can we trade Sanchez & Urshela for Garver? (I wish). Garver, Miranda, Lewis & buying a good bullpen for $35M would be far far better than Correa, Sanchez, Urshela and this bullpen. The last 3 are all fine players, but simply not what this team needed. We suddenly have a logjam at SS and should have rolled the dice with Miranda, Lewis, Pallacio & Gordon and spent $35M on the Bullpen. That was the obvious route to take from the beginning. But no, Falvey & company had to "make a splash" and sign Correa. Typical small market stupidity trying to buy legitimacy at the expense of the teams overall success.
  18. I've been Sceaming Bullpen for years! It wasn't good enough when we had Roger's, May, Pressley & Duffy and it couldn't be any worse now. Magill & Cotton have shown promise, but aren't ready for high leverage yet. Acala has yet to step up & is coming. off injury. Duran is the only savior we have right now. Who are we kidding with guys like Stashak, Columbe, Thorpe etc al? Should have spent Correa's $35M on 4 or 5 quality bullpen arms and rolled the dice with Mitanda, Lewis & Pallacio or Gordon. You simply have NO chance without a top 5 bullpen, the end.
  19. The Bullpen is nothing but horrible and Falvey & company knew this going in. Then to make matters worse they traded one of their best guys, a Lefty at that, for Injured mediocrity. Frankly, the front office should be fired for this clown show.
  20. It's all about the Bullpen these days. Trevor Rosenthal flyer for the desperate perhaps? Can't hurt to sign him to an incentive laden Contract.
  21. always liked Cron. Felt it was a Hugh mistake not keeping him. Trading Pressley & Roger's were total stupidity.
  22. Never been a fan of Smeltzer, Thorpe, Stashack. Long relievers at best. Teams are lucky to get 5 inings from any starter these days. The days of Jim Kaat going 12 innings and winning a 1-0 decision over his opponent who also pitched 12 are long gone. It's all about the Bullpen today! One can only dream of the bullpen we would have had we kept May, Pressley, Roger's; the three of whom would only cost $22M Lewis surprised & showed he is ready, Miranda is coming along. As good as Correa is, that $35M would have paid for the above bullpen AND bought us a top flite closer. This FO has it backwards as usual. Without at least one more top reliever, this team will dash all our hopes yet again.
  23. Maybe he can develope a herky-jerky motion like Kershaw, who only throws 88mph, but yet is unhittable. The only reason they should consider him is the fact they have no lefties.
  24. Does anybody see the microcosm of the first week playing out any differently for the rest of the season? 0 for the season Sano aside, no lefty starter, (only 2 one the roster) and no closer. Even if Duran steps up and seizes toe closer job, the rest of the bullpen isnt good enough to hold a lead. Trade Arraez and others for solid relief pitching and bring up Miranda. Otherwise this team loses 80 games 9-5.
  25. Duran as Closer is the one thing that could save the Twins season. Arraez at 3rd is too much of a liability. Trade him for relief pitching PLEASE!!!
