  1. We'll see. It was only 5 innings. Maybe we get the DK of 2017? He was magic that year.
  2. I well remember the Dallas Keuchel I saw yesterday. If that's the DK we're going to get for the stretch run he can help us greatly. Wiley veteran who induces soft contact and has been around the block, been a world series champion, another mentor for our young pitchers. Sign me up.
  3. Excellent comment. Expectation always plays into opinion. I expected much better this year as we all did, and there is still time now that we find ourselves in a putrid division with Cleveland being sellers. Looking forward to seeing Keuchel Sunday and hoping he has found something. That would be a big boost. Also getting Royce back will be a boost. Please let the kids play. Loving Jeffers, Wallner and Julien. Worried about Kirilloff and also wishing we'd give Gallo a bus ticket to somewhere else at this point. Go Twins!
  4. Making the $300M decision on Buxton and Correa is proving to be disastrous in year 1. This scares me for the next 5 years. We can't afford to have wasted $300M. The discussion at trade deadline about a RH bat made me sick thinking about these 2 guys. We should have RH bats covered, we spent $300M. Also noticed Steer just hit #17 - the list is getting long for me here on FO blunders. Our luck CES will tear it up as well in Cincy. Hindsight isn't looking favorable for the FO here.
  5. I have learned to never question Tampa or Cleveland trades no matter how they first appear. Still in shock we received Ryan for Cruz. I will not be surprised in the least if Falvey trades both Gray and Maeda for prospects, and I'm thinking Kepler to NY. He would do well there. It is also decision day on Dallas Keuchel, and I am betting he is in the Twins rotation by the weekend.
  6. Not sure if anyone saw the MLB segment with Harold Reynolds but he played an interview w/Buck, and made the point that Buxton NEEDS to go out and play a position, to be able to hit. He doesn't seem to have the mental game to DH, and Reynolds went on to talk about the mental side of being a DH. I agree Royce's best spot on this years team in the coming weeks is CF, but heading into the playoffs (i hope) and into next year, Buxton at DH isn't a sustainable option in my opinion.
  7. Twins fans didn't make the bad trade deadline trades, this front office did. Gave away CES and Steer for nothing last year, and Coulombe (DFA'd) and Cano are currently manning the back end of the Orioles BP - and we have Lopez and Mahle. Nice work there. I'd say no trades this July. We'll get fleeced. If anything we should get younger & see if the Reds will trade us CES back for Sonny Gray and move on from Gallo/Kepler and Polanco. Trading Kirilloff would be insane.
  8. MLB should make it easier to watch games. I have a buddy who is a Dodger fan and pays MLB but gets blacked out once a week, and oddly enough here in Iowa whenever the Twins are on Fox, our Fox always shows the national game. I miss every game on Fox, and every game on Apple. I think tonight will be the 6th game this year I can't watch easily. I am willing to pay, but there is no single one I can pay to watch every game, even MLB. You need Bally, you need to live in the Twin Cities TV market, and you need to pay Apple. There should be one service you can sign up for and get every game.
  9. Last year we had it all the way until we didn't. Whoever is hotter after the all-star break wins it, and then anything can happen in the playoffs right? This year we have quality starting pitching for a playoff run if we can get there.
  10. So you're saying there is a chance?
  11. I agree with both sentiments here. It certainly didn't appear as if we prioritized winning prior to the infamous Total System Failure 2011-2016. Then we finally let TR go and hired a new front office, and they put on a great show in 2019. Now here we are 4 seasons later, and we're wondering again how much do we actually care about winning? We shall see, but we are on our way to selling Sonny Gray at the deadline, and anyone else that has salary, and someone else could use. Not sure I'd blame grandson Pohlad. He just spent $300M on Correa and Buxton, and watched the front office trade away THE guy who could have filled the largest hole on this team this year, which is contact, base hits and table setting. Lots of things would have been very different this year with a .400 hitter in the lineup. Results so far say these were 3 bad decisions.
  12. I have made numerous comments on the failure of the front office here. We are a top down organization. This is how we've structured things. Problem #1 has always been ownership. Problem #2 is now this front office. Since you cannot fire 40 players, and since our manager belongs to this front office, and this front office belongs now to young grandson Pohlad. I'd say grandson Pohlad needs to have a meeting and make some decisions.
  13. My bank takes back my business if I don't make my payments. They only care about results. Your boss doesn't care about your reasoning/excuses, he pays you for results. Baseball is business. Business is results only. Spare me the reasons you couldn't get your job done. Spare me the reasons why we stink. We stink. We're not talking about life here. We're talking baseball. Whoever scores the most wins, ugly, lucky, drunk, no matter, score more runs and win the game.
  14. Results are results. How do you measure anything if not by results. We play the games and whoever scores the most wins. How do you evaluate Rocco and this FO if not by the results. We can debate anything and everything and everyone has an opinion. What is not an opinion are the results. I agree he's lost the team based on our results.
  15. No. Perhaps I was making a larger point. Ideally you have a squad like the Braves who have played Acuna in every game, and had nearly the same line up all year. If Acuna was on our team he would have been rested at least once a week, and probably hit in several different places in the lineup. I do understand we aren't the Braves. Hence the discussion.
  16. The tides roll out, the tides roll in. The sun comes up, and the sun goes down. Routine matters. Familiarity matters. Consistency matters. We are by nature creatures of habit. It is human nature. Baseball players are typically routine and rhythm orientated, as most people are. Yes, their role is to hit no matter, but a coach can facilitate this process by implementing routines and rhythms and continuity. Like a kid or a dog acts and performs better when knowing exactly what to expect and what time to expect it. A coaches job (and front office) is to lay the groundwork and set the conditions for the players to have the best opportunity for success.
  17. Wouldn't have happened here. Rocco would have had him on a day off.
  18. Arraez and Urshela would look real good on our roster at this point. Not sure what the FO was thinking in jettisoning our 2 best contact guys? Now we have no contact guys, which is essentially what Royce was saying the other day. Too bad we need him to be our contact guy, and too bad he had to figure it out for himself. Royce has power and should be a power guy, but someone's got to get on base here. We have a poorly constructed roster, and we seem to be poorly coached, and our players aren't making up for this by playing well. We should be selling at the trade deadline. We are miles away from competing with teams like the Braves.
  19. I presented nothing but my opinion. I don't need sources to have an opinion. I have watched the majority of Twins games since the mid-70's. I have a feel for history and the squads we've fielded over the decades. In my opinion, our current results from 2016 or so, the drafts, the trades, the signings, the on field performance suggests we aren't getting things right. Last 2 nights are a good example. We can't play with the Braves. No chance we could beat them in a 7 games series. Sadly.
  20. "The approach" is exactly what Falvey wants, it's what he drafts, it's what he develops and it's what he trades for. The Twins are a top down organization. We are witnessing the execution of Falvey's strategy. Remember his calling card coming out of Cleveland was Pitching Pitching and Pitching, and they had Francona pulling the on-field strings. I don't get the feeling Francona is anyone's puppet. Rocco isn't in the hitting meetings because Rocco is a Falvey puppet. That's what Falvey wants. All this is what Falvey built for us. Saddened watching Rosario last night. He had fire in the belly, like Luis. I miss them both.
  21. And, as said above, it is a solid fist bump to Boros, which is a good PR move. No harm here, and maybe, just maybe. I would NOT have thought Kershaw would be doing what he is doing this year. His fastball speed is 89 on a good day.
  22. Agreed, but that is the topic of this blog. The past, as you say is quite important for learning, and I hope we do better in our next trades. I did not like losing Eduardo Escobar - but today we have Duran. Let's hope for some improvement on this roster between now and the end of July!
  23. We haven't been the same since James Rowson left for Miami. We should look to give the Padres a bag of balls and get Nelson Cruz back here as our hitting coach immediately - and then track down Yadier Molina and beg him to be our manager. We can't fire 26 players. Seems we're close to someone needing to get fired here.
  24. Braves. Buxton is from there. He has a full no trade. This would be a huge move for Atlanta. They are already very good, wouldn't have to give much, and can easily take on salary. We all know Byron is way underpaid if he does what he can do. If I'm the Braves, I'm cherry picking him right now. How much lower can you buy on Byron than now?
