  1. Target is a gorgeous venue. No chance a sale is approved if a new owner expressed interest in moving. Manfred wants expansion. He's not going to expand by moving an existing team that already has a gorgeous park. We need a new owner who can comfortably handle the expected revenues vs expenses, and has some fresh ideas and an ego.
  2. Great comment. Agree 100%. I hope we get an owner w/local ties of some sort. Mauer should put together a group. Great news and I hope it happens.
  3. I found it interesting that this Detroit Tigers playoff roster has a total salary of only $16M after ditching Maeda off of it. While I'd love to have a workable salary budget to compete, the 3 other teams in our division are proving its not the Golden Ticket to the playoffs. Who would have bet in June that 3 in our division make the playoffs, and we're not one of them. No excuses. We didn't get it done. I agree the biggest need we might have is in the Strength & Conditioning department. We ran out of gas? We got tired? That doesn't sound legit to me. We certainly got out managed and out front officed.
  4. Rocco is the parent that wants to be their kids friend. It doesn't work out well. Human nature is what it is. A very small percentage of people are 100% self starters & 100% self motivated. Coaching/Mentoring matters a great deal to most people. Squeezing the absolute most out of everyone, helping everyone reach their utmost potential day in, day out. That's leadership. Starts at the tippy top. Actually starts w/Pohlad. Which will always be the chief problem here.
  5. That was worth reading. Old timer here and I couldn't agree more. I've always found myself being frustrated w/Rocco's in game decision making. Not sure how much of it is driven by Falvey and the already pre-determined playbook for todays game? I prefer the in-game managerial decision making to be more of an "on the fly" "instinctive" "gut" feel, based on the flow of the game, not on something that was determined before the game started. If it were my call I'd immediately have fired Rocco & give Toby a shot. Most of our core now came through Toby's teams. Kind of similar to how/when TK got the job.
  6. Out foxed by the Royals & Tigers this year, shameful. And Cleveland again with a new manager and a young team. I see Pohlad going all the way this off-season and dumping Correa and his salary and we open up next spring sub 100M payroll. Got to turn a profit. Can't get rid of Rocco, he has 1 year left on his contract. Winning is just never priority 1 in Minnesota. Great article!
  7. Great comment! Ditto on this exactly. Given the correct points above, why, and for how long can this team, led by these people have a $35M shortstop? Youth movement is here. We went down the stretch w/3 rookies in the starting 5, and most of the 10 in the every day lineup were 1st, 2nd or 3rd yr guys. I would hope Pohlad's pissed about this. Why did we buy the most expensive shortstop only to go down the stretch with no pitching?
  8. I like this. And I like Festa, and Zebby is coming, and Topa, and maybe Paddock for the playoff bullpen. We need last years Lopez and a healthy Lewis & Correa. I would love to pull in one more stud starter this week. Perhaps an expiring contract stud we don't have to give too much for? I think that's where this is going in my opinion. Eovaldi is my choice. He's a horse when healthy.
  9. I wouldn't have thought Rooker would be a better pro either? Maybe he wouldn't have if we'd have kept him, and Alex was in Oakland? I am beginning to sour on our hitting development and on our player analysis. We are consistently inconsistent at the plate swinging at bad pitches and taking called 3rd strikes far too often as a team.
  10. Great write up. I agree Miranda needs to stay in the lineup. I also agree it's too early for the Twins to ditch a veteran, although I wish they would. Makes sense to remove Farmer from the roster when Lewis comes back based on today's performance and club needs, but they won't. Julian is the weak link right now. Taking way too many called strike 3's and hasn't made the adjustments Larnach seems to have made to the offspeed pitches. I'd like to see Larnach given LF, Kirilloff given 1B, and Miranda given DH for now and see what happens. If Julian doesn't turn this around he's going to go back to AAA at some point. He isn't a world class defender to be hitting .210 and have a place in the every day lineup in my opinion. Still waiting on him but another month like May and he'll be in St Paul by July.
  11. New rule will change these plans later in the year. I think it is only 5 times in a season now you can do this regardless of options. Seems they have used 2 already for both Alcala & Funderburk. With Topa & Stewart needing to return soon they may keep Alcala down now for a while until cutting bait on someone or injury. What I don't understand is using him for more than 1 inning at a time. Sands is your "more than 1 inning guy" - and WHY Rocco didn't let him finish that Seattle game we lost I'll never know? Still not a fan of Rocco's BP management in ANY way.
  12. Will hope Margot & Farmer turn it around at the plate quickly. This team doesn't jettison veterans during the season. Will be interesting to see what happens when Royce is ready. I'm thinking we'd rather have Miranda & Martin on the bench as the year moves forward w/Castro as primary IF backup. Also rooting for Wallner to make it back!
  13. Not replacing Sonny was an arrogant mistake, but sinking $200M into Correa apparently blew up the piggy bank. Dyson, Mahle, Paddock, Descalfini are 4 quick examples of trades Falvey made for the soon to be injured, not helpful. The starter I miss, that Falvey missed on was Littell. Don't like the hindsight but here we are. Better stretch out Sands. I like SWR, but as was said earlier, we'll need a few more starters to get through September.
  14. Thanks Kenny! I love baseball and I love our Twins! Nothing reminds me more of being a kid than baseball. I am grateful it's spring, and grateful to be able to watch baseball again! Go Twins!
  15. I didn't hire him because of his contribution to the vaunted Cleveland pitching pipeline. I am reporting the story I was told about the wonderkind kid from Cleveland in October of 2016. Still waiting...
  16. No Mr. Extreme example. I was expecting whatever the term pitching pipeline means? I didn't invent this term and I didn't apply it to the Falvey deal, but someone did, and we've been discussing it for the better part of 7 years. I take it to mean the cupboard is never bare. I'm feeling a rather bare cupboard this spring, and we've given Falvey plenty of drafts and plenty of off-seasons to work with here in Minnesota. Not complicated. Pitching in Cleveland is WHY he got the job.
  17. "This" may not be a Falvey issue... yet, BUT - where is the "pitching pipeline" we ALL thought was coming when we hired him away from Cleveland? Hasn't Falvey had enough time now to have developed this "pipeline" we were ALL told about, and was the PRIMARY reason he got the job? I was expecting a "pipeline" / I see no "pipeline" / I wanted a "pipeline" Perhaps we should have hired a front office who promised a "hitting pipeline" and could have accidentally swerved into THIS pitching pipeline without even trying? The buck seems to stop in this baseball company with Falvey. Ultimately he will need to go if this year plays out like this for the duration. He was the "pitching pipeline" guy.
  18. Nailed it! I love this time of year. I am always optimistic. IF we get there best, there is no better trio than Buxton Correa and Lewis! I am enormously high on Paddock and if Ryan & Ober take another step forward we'll go very far. This is probably the best Bullpen we've ever had on paper, and I have always LOVED Santana. Plate discipline KING - reminds me of the Cruz signing. I love this team! Let's play ball 😀
  19. Saddest need expressed in this article is centerfield. It's sickening we need a centerfielder. I'll just say this - how many more runs, and how many more wins would we have had if Arraez was our Apr/May/June DH instead of Buck? I love the Alcantara idea stated above and do think the Marlins could be a partner in some productive way. I love Luis. He'd be the best full time DH in baseball. That's his best position. We learned Byron can't hit if he isn't playing in the field. Not sure what we're going to do here but our greatest need last spring was contact and baserunners. Trade Buxton for Luis. If Arraez plays DH everyday he gets 700 AB's with 240 hits.
  20. Had to take the 2nd lefty in my opinion. Ober slated to start game 1 of the next round if we make it. Probably stack Ryan and Maeda for game 3 if we get there. I also liked taking Stephenson, and leaving Buck off. Stephenson will get into every game at some point. Just not fair to the team to take Buck, and last time we saw him at the plate was the last time we wanted to see him at the plate. Feel sorry for him.
  21. Great summary. I'll be most interested to see if we add a 2nd lefty versus another power righty. I do like the way the bullpen is shaping up never forgetting how the Royals did it in '15. That was a shutdown bullpen.
  22. Bremer said on the game last night that Ober was returning from a 2 week vacation in SF and going to prepare for the playoff bullpen.
  23. I am stunned he's only played 85 games this year NEVER seeing the field. Welp, that was a bad plan. New plan has to be playing in the field or what's the point? Sit him down and try again next year. He said it himself, he doesn't have the make up to be a DH, he needs to be out in the field. We seem to have proven this point. We're a better team without him right now, sadly.
  24. Agree entirely with this. Thinking playoffs, I would move both Keuchel and Maeda to the pen immediately so we can see if they will be helpful there. If Ryan can come back and be Ryan again, we have 3 high quality starters for a playoff appearance. We should be looking immediately at other high-leverage potential pen people. Jax needs some time off and Duran looking shaky lately. Let's hope Falvey has something up his sleeve making no bullpen deals last off season or at trade deadline. This division is ours, now if we could just find 3 arms to close out games.
  25. We're going to find out together
