    Agreed brute. Gibson is enough to drive you nuts. I also see Pineda getting better and better. I am about ready to vote Gibson to the pen if we pick up a stud starter. He's unbeatable for 2-3-4 innings and then...sometimes wriggles out, sometimes not. I don't have confidence in him starting a playoff game. I wish I did. Nice win! Better to be lucky than good on this one. I'll take it.

    Justin Verlander 2017 with Detroit prior to trade; era 3.82 fip 4.07 whip 1.28 K's to Walks 2.63 Madison Bumgarner 2019 so far; era 4.03 fip 3.90 whip 1.20 K's to Walks 4.79 Not to mention MadBum is 29 yrs old - Not to mention he has proven his Big Game status in 3 Octobers + my trade also brings Watson. As of today, MadBum's numbers are better than Verlanders at trade deadline 2017. MadBums already a stud and legend. Berrios may become one, but as of today we don't have one yet and I think we need one for October. Also not to mention the locker room factor in having a 3 time WS champ in everyones ear. If Cruz matters in the clubhouse - MadBum will matter at least equally. "who is clearly just ML average at this point" - I don't think so brother.

    One mentally tough, fierce competitor, eats nails for breakfast type starter and reliever please....Agree on one trade partner to get both. Giants are the team. MadBum has the fierce competitor thing down & Watson still has another year of control. Pineda to the pen. Giants, more so than most are looking for major league ready talent in return. Make Rooker or Gordon the centerpiece, and let them have some pitching - 3 of the following, either Thorpe, Stewart, Mejia, Gonsalves or Smeltzer. I hear the Giants aren't interested in anyone below AAA. They want to be viable next year - no major rebuild ha ha. Good luck with that. Also - reading Dodger blogs, don't get lost in MadBums current numbers - Dodger fans know they do NOT want to face Madison in October and are wishing somehow they could land him. I think they would know better than Twins fans what MadBum still has in the tank. Not thinking we could resign him - Watch LA make a play for him this winter - but thinking he'd be a horse for us on the mound with a TC ballcap on this fall.

    The biggest/most pleasant surprise has to be Wes Johnson & the pitching staff. No major off season signings (Perez wasn't in high demand) - essentially the same staff as 2018. I would have never thought this group of 13 could get the job done as they have. Which is why I tend to agree w/Mikelink45 and am concerned about this 13's chances to hold off the Indians and go anywhere deep in October.

    Yes we should be concerned. We are Twins fans and have all suffered from BTFS for decades (battered twins fan syndrome). At long last we've arrived. The long awaited prospect train has entered the station. Credit the front office for adding good pieces to the young homegrown talent we've been waiting for - Berrios, Rogers, Polanco, Rosario, Buxton, Kepler, Garver, Sano have arrived, and they are good - But - here we are, Cleveland is coming - if we lay an egg this weekend, then get swept next weekend - its on. I am concerned.

    Great review Nick! Its fun again to be a Twins fan. Bad week and we went 3-3 and still have an 8 game lead - and only 6 more games to the break. Then we get a chance to face off with the Tribe right away. Big series, & will set the tone for the 2nd half.

    "A man's gotta know his limitations" - Dirty Harry Schoop can't bunt. That makes it a bad decision to have asked him to. Everything else is debatable.

    We'll know we have a solid bullpen when Duffy and May are the 6th and 7th options. Like Pineda - who makes a decent #5 - but would be a poor #2 or #3. We'll know we have a solid bullpen when we stop discussing Duffy or May for high leverage roles. They are decent bullpen fillers. That's it. Its become obvious the front office did not anticipate being buyers this year and being this good. If they knew we'd be this good, Ryan Pressly would be our closer. We'd have never flipped him for some future magic beans. Never. Front office malpractice if they had any clue we'd be in this thing in 2019.

    Agreed. Sano looks like the bad Sano of 2016. Pitch guessing and wrong every time lately. Last night was exhibit A of why we need a starter along with 2 high leverage BP arms to make a deep run this year. Gibson still has one of those starts too often. We don't want a start like that in the playoffs. Not sure what the Sano solution is? Arraez and Austidillo are both great contact, great energy guys - I do wish we had room for them both. In this line up - we could use another contact/energy guy at 3B if Miguel is going to K 9 out of every 11 AB's and boot grounders. I like Sano, but he is no better today than 3 years ago. Identifying pitches, plate discipline - yuck. Hard to watch. Everyone else from his "class" - Jorge, Jose, Rosy, Max, Bux, Garv - all vastly improved in the last 3 years. Sano, nope. Same.

    Good comment here. The Giants are the trade partner I think - The conversation starts with MadBum - and ends with a blockbuster Smith/Watson/MadBum 3 fer. 2 more high lev power lefty's in the pen and a world series veteran. MadBum in the locker room is a big deal - and puts a Pineda high lev power righty in the pen. SF is starved for prospects - any and all prospects. Watson will cost the most - but it could be a numbers game in that SF needs quality bodies - we have alot of good young bodies that will be hitting rule 5 protection this winter. Our window for a world series run is so wide open you could drive a semi through it - unload the prospect vault - this is the team we've been waiting for.

    I like Big Mike. He keeps getting better. I believe this will prove to be a good signing even if he ends up being our 8th inning guy in October. Perez same - except he isn't getting better right now. For us to end up playing in October, I see both these guys in the pen. Last nights game was playoff baseball and in playoff baseball, pitching beats hitting. We need reinforcements and everyone knows it.

    It will be interesting to see what we decide to do. All in - give up some high upside talent - or dip our toes in - and give up no one we will miss? Go bold or hedge your bets? Also be interesting to see how long we wait? Something cooking in the next couple weeks - or do we wait until midnight 7/31? We'll get a real window into the minds of our new leadership on this one. Our line up 1-9 is a world series contender. I see no reason to mess around the edges here. Get us 2 stoppers and give up whichever prospects necessary. We can win it this year with a 2015 Royals type BP.

    Bingo. You can place most of the blame for our fan angst on Terry Ryan. Sano batting 3rd 2 years ago and having our entire future placed on his shoulders was all on the front office. Throwing sand in our eyes as we struggled to watch the 2011-2015 years. Then Ryan decides to make him a RF'er - are you joking? In todays lineup, playing a competent 3B & batting 7th - Sano fits nicely.

    Ok - got me. I'd make that trade. You never know - Nationals fall off the deep end and start ditching contracts and wanting young talent? I just see Lewis in the starting 9 for our 2020 run. (although he is off to a rough start this year) Doubt we resign Schoop with all the young middle infielders we are stocking up on, & his price tag given what looks like a major comeback year will be large.

    I'd like to see who may be on the block 1 month from now - If we can maintain a nice lead over Cle and keep scoring - this years window for a WS run is wide open. Rather than MadBum - lets look for a Houston type manuever when they landed Verlander, and try swinging for the fences. Maybe take on an ace - and take on the last couple years of big money? Scherzer/Grienke type deal. Our 1-9 can hit us all the way to the promise land - but we are an ace and a closer away from being able to pitch that far this year - maybe 2 closers? My thoughts are to be willing to trade any prospects away that we don't think help us in the next 2 years as we go for back to back championships in '19/'20. Lewis and Graterol are the only untouchables for me.
