  1. There is no question this has exposed something deeply wrong in this police department. There were multiple upon multiple incidents prior with him - and for the other cops to stand still and silent - big personnel problems in this police force. There is no question this has exposed the anarchists and race hustlers, who are using this awful police brutality incident to further their political agenda. It is racism - and it is politics. And it all belongs somewhere else outside this forum in my opinion. And I'll give Max the benefit of the doubt, as I'm sure Byron will.
  2. Like it or not, it is the owners with all the leverage. Player careers are finite - owners careers exist to the grave. Players generally make 100% of their earnings playing the game - owners generally have other business interests to feed themselves. Comparing the business of baseball with other business in America isn't apples to apples in any way. If I don't pay my managers and my staff proper competitive wages, they will end up at my competitor. I believe players will need to do the caving here and they should hurry up. No 2020 season hurts the individual players far more than the owners. No service time and depressed wages in winter free agency - too much supply, and not enough demand will dominate the off season. It is a mess and we shouldn't expect the owners to be kind and gracious. They are the side willing to play hardball and walk away. Let me also go on record as being disgusted by what I've just written. But I believe this to be our reality. I am still keeping my Hulu account just in case, but I am losing hope.
  3. It is fun to re-boot the mind and contemplate a baseball season. I love our chances and I love our team. I am bullish on all the above mentioned. Garver and Arraez maybe regress, but just a little - I am in the "Rosario will be a monster" camp - I love Kepler's chances to continue improvement. The veteran leadership on this club combined with the continuity of the young core that has been together since they were teenagers, a shortened season my be very much in our favor. Start hot - Stay hot - no batting slumps and competent pitching. This season will be a sprint. Thanks Seth
  4. Agreed, but that is the owners plan according to today's report they are submitting to the White House and to the Players association. It would be a sad day if it is money that stops the season rather than the virus.
  5. If the plan becomes an 82 game regular season, and they keep it within the current divisions, then I think it sets up a legit season. Add 1 wild card to each league, with the 2 best records in each league getting 1st round byes to somewhat compensate for the 1/2 season - and I think you get virtually the same teams making the playoffs, as would have otherwise. As to player compensation - Diehardtwinsfan has it for 2020 - revenue sharing. MLB should set the total salaries number as a percent of revenue, just like the NBA - once the percentage is set - then each team can give each player their percentage of the teams percentage.
  6. This puts us in the hardest division if they go with the No league's, 3 divisions plan. I am counting 7 of your top 15 including the Twins in the Midwest division. Eastern easiest at only 3 of your teams - leaving 5 in the West. I don't like that plan if you've got the 15 correct.
  7. 2 words - Ricky Nolasco. I still dislike him greatly.
  8. 1 TV contract in football, and 30 individual TV contracts in baseball will always be the problem. Hulu is all I've got and just hoping they stay with FSN. I am only able to get about 1/2 the Vikings games each year, and the RedZone saves me. I don't think baseball can replicate this without violating individual contracts? I do wish baseball could figure out wealth distribution so we could have a level playing field with salaries and with broadcasting games.
  9. Seems Falvey has answered this query by signing Donaldson. I was in favor of signing him, so I would also be in favor of Bauer.
  10. If limiting travel is the reasoning behind this plan, I am not understanding why we don't just leave the divisions alone - and play the regular season within the division? 20 games against each division rival and you have an 80 game season - add one extra wild card for a total of 6 teams reaching the playoffs in each league. The 2 division winners with the best regular season record get a first round bye. Is this too easy? I don't see the need for re-aligning everything. Keep the integrity of the divisions and the leagues. Geography is why the divisions are the divisions in the first place.
  11. Yes it was incredible. Hard to believe it went away as fast as it came. Now he is on the bench behind Jurickson Profar for the Padres - and today, we'd never trade Smeltzer for him even up. I liked Brian. Good trade in hindsight. I would have never thought. Thanks Ted!
  12. Exactly - Similar to what's happening with real estate right now. Appraisals are on pause, holding up deals until banks get some visibility into post-covid real estate values. Is what you have today, worth what it was pre-covid? Look what happened to the price of oil, Ouch if you're in that business. Everything has been devalued. I suspect veterans like Romo are facing devaluation as well.
  13. Doesn't everyone inject their own interpretation when hearing and trying to understand what someone is saying? I just thought you stepped on your own message. After the seemingly and probably sentence you went on to describe January events in Germany - and then went to comparatively - describing what took place in the USA. I would have understood your point better without the seemingly, probably and comparatively stuff. I'll take your Absolutely not - meaning your intent, and give you the benefit of the doubt, but bolstering your Germany testing point, by running down the USA's actions, or lack thereof wasn't helpful. You could have kept the USA out of it, and made your good point on testing.
  14. While I agree with your point on the necessity of testing before we can play ball - You did begin with the premise that Germany is better than us - and then you scolded him for suggesting you were levying judgments. This led to the mis-belief that you had an agenda. No doubt the constitution, and politics make the American government a very different animal than the German or SKorean governments. This was a real, and good point he was making. As Germany was doing a Covid test in mid-Jan as you say - our President was being impeached. When our President banned flights from China on 1/31 - politicals and media were calling him a racist. I thought both of you had good points, that got lost in mis-believing each others agenda's. Both points are a reality. You are right about testing as a large part of the solution. He is right about the blame/comparison game IMO.
  15. Ok Puckstopper, I just saw it again. NBC News is reporting No new corona cases in NY today. It is according to an interview of Cuomo this morning. Found an article on it, and sorry I do not know how to give you the link. It's on Dailycaller.com right now. I knew I heard this, but it was way early am this morning. Go baseball season!!
  16. I stand corrected. Went to cdc.gov and saw the Covid-19 cases by date of illness onset. Finally saw a zero and got ahead of myself. This number peaked at 15,000 Apr 2 and is dropping like a stone. It was my State of Ia that had zero yesterday. Thanks Puckstopper1
  17. I am also optimistic John! No new cases in NY the last 24 hours. That is progress. Also does seem test kits will be flowing in the multi-millions within 2 weeks. I am less optimistic that FSN will be back on my dumb dish. I cannot believe they won't make a deal under these circumstances. 100% sports network with zero sports to provide and they still won't make a deal.
  18. I am all about Dob's being the guy - but maybe Chacin is last years Annibal Sanchez? After last spring, no way you give the spot to Sanchez, but by June you wished you did.
  19. Disagree with the above take. Graterol for Maeda will prove to be a solid trade. Timing is everything and now was the time - analysis on Graterol's upside and risk is debatable - I trust our guys, and finally we sell high on someone. This trade was a smart use of assets to acquire a more desperate need, given the make up of this years team, and this years opportunity. Ramos for Capps was short-sighted - barely helping us now - very much hurting us long term. Graterol for Maeda will be neither IMO - he will be very helpful now - and helpful for many years. Graterol? He may become Chargois/Burdi who knows?
  20. Strategic rest is a part of the Falvey/Baldelli way. Another example of how the game has changed. No doubt this is a possibility if we have 6 guys effective and healthy at all times. We'll see who starts in AAA and hope they keep the pressure on and give us great options as the year goes. Hard to predict injury.
  21. Agreed on this - but every year is a new year, and I think with no lefty's in the starting 5, Thorpe or Smeltzer will be given every chance if all else is equal vs Dobs & Chacin.
  22. I have read every comment and agree we are conflicted. All of us were calling for a trade when we failed to sign Wheeler/Madbum/Ryu. Even after the Bailey/Hill signings we heard a universal call for a trade. Now we make the trade, and we can't decide if we like it or not. Well, what I like most is that we actually made a bold trade. Whatever happens there will be 20/20 hindsight, and someone will be right, and someone will be wrong. I for one will say nothing, because I love that they made a bold trade. No guts, No glory? Gotta give to get? One thing for sure - This is not Terry Ryan's team anymore.
  23. We have him locked up for the next 3 years. Arb numbers will be about $25M. It is not a crisis if we keep doing this. Might take 5/80 to get those next 2 years. Will he be worth $27.5M per season in years 4 and 5? I know - maybe he will be.
  24. I understand the difficulty in holding players accountable, and generally agree with only holding management responsible but... This whole episode is entirely awful, damaging the game, and screwing with players stats. I wondered how they just pounded everything Darvish threw. The Yankees series before. The whole thing is sickening, and I'd like to hear some players apologize and own up to whatever they each individually did. How much money did Marwin make off this? Would he have even been a Twins target if his stats were legit vs garbage can inflated? Seems players are being let off the hook completely here, and the ones involved were totally on board and working it hard - and they win the world series. Total BS. Thanks DD
