  1. I am also optimistic John! No new cases in NY the last 24 hours. That is progress. Also does seem test kits will be flowing in the multi-millions within 2 weeks. I am less optimistic that FSN will be back on my dumb dish. I cannot believe they won't make a deal under these circumstances. 100% sports network with zero sports to provide and they still won't make a deal.
  2. I am all about Dob's being the guy - but maybe Chacin is last years Annibal Sanchez? After last spring, no way you give the spot to Sanchez, but by June you wished you did.
  3. Disagree with the above take. Graterol for Maeda will prove to be a solid trade. Timing is everything and now was the time - analysis on Graterol's upside and risk is debatable - I trust our guys, and finally we sell high on someone. This trade was a smart use of assets to acquire a more desperate need, given the make up of this years team, and this years opportunity. Ramos for Capps was short-sighted - barely helping us now - very much hurting us long term. Graterol for Maeda will be neither IMO - he will be very helpful now - and helpful for many years. Graterol? He may become Chargois/Burdi who knows?
  4. Strategic rest is a part of the Falvey/Baldelli way. Another example of how the game has changed. No doubt this is a possibility if we have 6 guys effective and healthy at all times. We'll see who starts in AAA and hope they keep the pressure on and give us great options as the year goes. Hard to predict injury.
  5. Agreed on this - but every year is a new year, and I think with no lefty's in the starting 5, Thorpe or Smeltzer will be given every chance if all else is equal vs Dobs & Chacin.
  6. I have read every comment and agree we are conflicted. All of us were calling for a trade when we failed to sign Wheeler/Madbum/Ryu. Even after the Bailey/Hill signings we heard a universal call for a trade. Now we make the trade, and we can't decide if we like it or not. Well, what I like most is that we actually made a bold trade. Whatever happens there will be 20/20 hindsight, and someone will be right, and someone will be wrong. I for one will say nothing, because I love that they made a bold trade. No guts, No glory? Gotta give to get? One thing for sure - This is not Terry Ryan's team anymore.
  7. We have him locked up for the next 3 years. Arb numbers will be about $25M. It is not a crisis if we keep doing this. Might take 5/80 to get those next 2 years. Will he be worth $27.5M per season in years 4 and 5? I know - maybe he will be.
  8. I understand the difficulty in holding players accountable, and generally agree with only holding management responsible but... This whole episode is entirely awful, damaging the game, and screwing with players stats. I wondered how they just pounded everything Darvish threw. The Yankees series before. The whole thing is sickening, and I'd like to hear some players apologize and own up to whatever they each individually did. How much money did Marwin make off this? Would he have even been a Twins target if his stats were legit vs garbage can inflated? Seems players are being let off the hook completely here, and the ones involved were totally on board and working it hard - and they win the world series. Total BS. Thanks DD
  9. I took this post "I guess I don't follow the logic. Let the young man throw the ball" to mean put him in the major league bullpen vs putting him in AAA as a starter. Let the young man throw the ball in the major leagues is I think what he was saying. And I agree. This doesn't in any way preclude him from becoming a starter.
  10. This is good news. Win now mode vs service time crap. For many years we watched the former regime not take the very best 25 men north out of spring training. If Graterol is one of the 13 best pitchers in camp then he should go north.
  11. As of now it is a certainty one of the lefty's, either Thorpe or Smeltzer heads north with the club in the rotation. Spring training results will determine this. I am both scared and excited to watch our collection of young starters this spring. We've positioned ourselves so that we need at least 2 of them to take a major step forward. Roll the dice gentlemen seems to be the bet. I'll bet on Dobnak and Smeltzer to begin the season. I am actually weirdly confident in Dobnak. I like his chances. His mental game seems superior to Thorpe's right now. Dobs is ready for this. We'll see who else is. Maybe Thorpe is ready as well. I hope so.
  12. 5 years from now this winter's signings may also look unremarkable. ChiSox were deemed to have won the 2014/15 off season. Doesn't mean anything was my point.
  13. 2014/15 winter - 2015 season; David Robertson 46M/4 Melky Cabrera 42M/3 Adam Laroche 25M/2 Zach Duke 15M/3 Grand Total in free agent money spent 138M in the '14/'15 off season.
  14. I just hope we take the very best 13 pitchers north this year and that Brusdar is one of them. Without a big trade ( still hoping for it) it looks like our best shot with this staff, is to duplicate the 2015 Royals and have the very best shut down bullpen in the league.
  15. I recall the White Sox winning the off season very recently? A couple years ago? How did that work out for them?
  16. This might be the plan BBAM? Although I still think we flip some prospects for someone or two in January.
  17. All prospects we don't expect at Target Field by Sept. 2020 should be available in trade. All pitchers named Berrios should be extended this winter. Falvery/Levine cannot/will not begin spring training in Feb with this current collection of starting pitching. In my opinion, more to come.
  18. Bad example. Cousins broke our bank and he isn't clutch in any way. We won't win the big games with him sorry to say.
  19. At this point in the off season it is probably fair to dispute all of these "Twins Have interest" leaks. I'm not buying it. Someone in the media or in the front office, or both is playing games and it's making us look bad. How is it helpful to keep spreading rumors, when in hind site we obviously didn't have interest, or certainly not enough interest to actually sign anyone?
  20. In your very intriguing scenarios link the only ones I like are the Alcantara deal and the Price deal. I don't think the Mets will be reasonable and I don't like bailing on Sano and Buxton. I'm expecting their 2 best years coming up. Your deal above I would do. I don't see the Mets doing it. I'm also in on an Archer trade if they are reasonable, but how do you reverse course on that considering what they gave up? Geez the Pirates blew that deal.
  21. I think/hope it is more about saving the 2 remaining spots on the 40 man for someone of greater impact. I agree we probably have several guys already on the roster who are as good or better, and at league minimum.
  22. In "Revisiting Falvey and Levine era trades" 20% of our current 40 man came in these trades. In my opinion that's some pretty good success. Alcala Chalmers Duran Littell Odorizzi Smeltzer Celestino Raley
  23. Ryne Harper is the only "painless" option to drop at this point. If we have 4 more adds as you hypothesize, we have a trade to come.
  24. This is the frame of reference. I remember being quite underwhelmed over the winter of '90/'91. I think there is a good probability that Berrios/Odo & Pineda stack up very nicely with anyone else's top 3 - and can any of these 3 have a top tier year - No question one or two of them can, maybe all 3? I've heard we can expect some offensive regression - I am not so sure about that. Yes, maybe Garver/Cruz & Arraez can't possibly duplicate last year, but holy cow if we finally get a full season from Buxton & Sano, and Kep takes another step, Rosario improves I think - our offense should not be an issue with this lineup. We could see another rookie breakout by mid-June in Kiriloff or Larnach or another surprise candidate. It is important to remember that getting to the Yankees series, and getting our face smashed in, might have been the necessary "experience" this squad needed to become clutch next time around. The groundwork has been laid, but as in the winter of '90/'91 - it doesn't quite look that way yet.
