  1. Sounds like we have an excellent 3B pipeline coming. Encarnacion-Strand - Steer and Miranda. And with Correa blocking SS, Lewis is also coming quickly at 3B. Sano and Urshela had better get it going with Kirilloff gearing up to play again and Larnach looking like he belongs.
  2. The results of our efforts here in this world can often times be discouraging. I hear your heart and it sounds like it is in the right place. It is difficult sometimes to remember we are working for an audience of one, and there is only one that we should aspire to please. In study and in prayer we find our affirmation, and our encouragement to press on. Press on soldier!
  3. Seems it is an organizational (Falvey) thesis to wing it in the bullpen. Maybe it was Addison Reed that did it to them? Just stupid to trade Rogers, especially considering we sent the Padres the money to pay him. WTH was that? Besides, if we stink we move him at the deadline if we aren't interested in re-signing him. Look for our closer to be Juan Minaya very soon I guess.
  4. Thanks for posting this. I enjoyed reading this article, and reading the comments so far. I do believe there is an analogy to be had here and I agree organized religion and organized baseball have similar challenges. As a grandfather of 10, I can attest to the youth of today in comparison to 50 years ago. My passion for baseball and Church was born out of habits developed from 5 years old, and from my parents influence. Kids today aren't in after school t-ball, and in Wednesday night youth group from kindergarten en masse like we were. Passions/Interests begin early in life. Habits begin early in life. I grew up on ballfields and in Church. Good comments from all.
  5. Today he will be playing the position best suited for him. He is a good enough 2nd baseman to be starting there. This is really his only position as I see it. On our team he will need to DH quite often to get to 500 ab's. And I hope he does. I could also see him playing a lot of 1B if Sano struggles into May.
  6. Circumstance and opportunity says Duran is our closer. Not necessarily the plan, but given his lack of innings in 2021, and the opening day trade of our closer, here he is. After Duffy blew the first save chance we had I thought geesh what did we do? It doesn't take a rocket science degree to see a new plan developing here. I like it. He is a 50 save potential guy. And we have plenty of starters and potential coming starters. Not closing games last Apr/May cost us the season. In my opinion, Duran is our new closer.
  7. I would agree with this, although plans change once the games begin. Going back to Mike Tyson "everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth" - we'll see how we begin this year. Arraez most definitely starts the year at DH. We'll see who gets hurt & we'll see how a change of scenery does for Sanchez. Every manager dreams of carrying 3 catchers. Once Arraez starts filling in around the field, if Sanchez is mashing at DH we'll carry 3 catchers all year, and we'll be happy about it.
  8. I agree with all of this except insert Celestino for Garlick. Celestino is already on the 40 man and can field and bats right.
  9. Opening day line up must have Arraez at DH, so I see a bench of Sanchez, Godoy, Gordon and Larnach. Not ideal starting Larnach on the bench, but his bat is looking great. Once we start a rotation, giving guys days off I'd see a DH rotation split between these 3 - Arraez, Sano and Sanchez - getting Larnach in the line up in RF/LF 2 out of every 3 days should be very doable. He looks better than AK at the plate so far this spring. I wouldn't send him down.
  10. I am interested in the limited no trade he has for 2022. Say Correa is fantastic, but we stink - seems we stand to gain a major haul for him at the trade deadline. Heaven forbid we have a first 3 months like we did last year, but we did just swerve into perhaps the greatest trade chip in baseball in case we do.
  11. Falvey obviously knows this could be a one year rental. This means we are not even close to being done. Pitching coming for sure. We're going for it in 2022. That is all I ever wanted to hear. Let's go Twins!
  12. Trade rumors says we are "maybe" one of 4 teams waiting for Trevor Story to make a decision. He reportedly is willing to play another position, and is willing to sign a short term high AAV contract.
  13. Thank you. Best comment. Sad circumstances indeed. Basically trading 2 of our best 3 catchers to unload the Donaldson contract (by the same people who signed him to that contract). Yesterday's showing was also discouraging. We started our "A" team, and they didn't. Our defense yesterday looked awful on the left side - will hope Miranda has a great glove to go along with the great bat. We need a shortstop obviously. Pitching obviously.
  14. I'll be surprised if we sign Story. The Donaldson deal was a salary dump. I do think we work with Oakland and we do have a plan. Montas is the last big name they have to package Andrus with to dump his contract - we will oblige, and in return there goes Urshela and a couple non-40 man quality prospects. I'm guessing they'd sign Story if he'd take the 2 years 50M left on the Donaldson contract? Maybe he will if we are the best AV offer and commit to let him play short for 2 years. I don't think we'll see another large 4 year commitment to Story, or anyone right now after shedding Donaldson's contract.
  15. Entertained, enlightened and updated for sure. Great work these last few months and great work last night on this recap. Given there are a million things to do in a short time, would you think trades are the more complicated transaction to bolster the pitching staff versus signing a couple free agents? I'm guessing less trading than there would have been given more time? Also I assume they canceled the rule 5 draft? Thanks again.
  16. I suggest we are not serious about competing. Therefore I could see this happening. I prefer leaving him at 2B and starting Nick Gordon if we aren't serious, and are looking for a stopgap for 3-6 mo, or a year. Pohlad must have told Falvey to hold his fire, knowing the owners were going to play hardball. Will know more after today's proposal I guess.
  17. Do not extend a player before you give him an everyday position. Who gives an extension to a bench player? I hope they give him a full time position, or trade him if we can get a good return. With our current lineup, I'd like to see him start the season leading off and at DH. Great eye, Great contact. I wish Rocco would settle on a more consistent lineup this year, beginning with Arraez leading off 140 games.
  18. I will hope the Escobar trade and the Pressly trade make this list by mid-season. Duran in the starting 5, and Alcala closing games. The James Rowson hire, albeit didn't stick, but that was an excellent hire.
  19. I think the 2020 season is working against us. Owners learned how to function with no games and no game revenue. Manfred's relationship with the players union is not good, and they don't trust him. Players are more likely to cave than owners, meaning owners will likely push them too far. Fans, concession workers, ancillary businesses and communities get hosed. Money is a divisive force do doubt.
  20. I hope we are not in full-blown rebuild, but I am speculating we are, and if we are, why would JD make sense on this team? If we go into April with our current starting pitching, signing or trading for no one, than we are in re-build in my opinion. You'll never get Falvey to admit rebuild. Bundy doesn't exactly signal we're going for it. Not giving Berrios the contract the Jays gave him doesn't exactly signal we're going for it. Not competing for any free agents in Oct/Nov doesn't exactly signal we're going for it. I gather we are rebuilding, and/or preparing for a partial season.
  21. Trading JD isn't about the bring back, it is about salary relief on a team rebuilding with youth. If we aren't signing or trading for some quality starting pitching (and it looks like we aren't), then you move the old and overpaid. If Donaldson struggles or gets hurt early, you get zero for him at the trade deadline.
  22. The Berrios trade coupled with no interest in free agents this Oct/Nov tells me we are going with what we have. If we are going with what we have, we try to trade JD - and with a universal DH - I think we find a National league taker. I keep Arraez, and he bats leadoff - and he primarily DH's, and backs up 2nd and 3rd. Youth movement for us, especially if we have a partial season I think.
  23. Point was - they should have let him fly as a starter in April after the great spring training run. 2nd point was - if he throws like a stud this spring, we might have something. He didn't get the chance to translate to games that actually count last year. Not on him.
  24. He was by far our best starter in spring training last year. He should have been in the rotation to start 2021. Hindsight says he was mismanaged. He deserves a spot in this rotation. He will have a good spring in my opinion. I am a Dobber fan, and still believe - as does the front office. He'll get every opportunity to begin the year in the rotation.
  25. Paying up for Story reminds me of paying up for Donaldson. We supposedly don't land Wheeler (like we tried?) - and we settle for offense/defense in Donaldson. We need quality pitching as a top priority. If we pass on Donaldson we are in better shape today. I say pass on Story. We seem intent on running out a bunch of kids on the mound. I'll bet we also are intent on running a kid out to shortstop. They got their Buxton signing done. Not sure they sign a big deal for anyone else as things stand today? Let's see how Nick Gordon looks at short this spring might be the thinking until we get to Lewis or Martin.
