  1. I took this post "I guess I don't follow the logic. Let the young man throw the ball" to mean put him in the major league bullpen vs putting him in AAA as a starter. Let the young man throw the ball in the major leagues is I think what he was saying. And I agree. This doesn't in any way preclude him from becoming a starter.
  2. This is good news. Win now mode vs service time crap. For many years we watched the former regime not take the very best 25 men north out of spring training. If Graterol is one of the 13 best pitchers in camp then he should go north.
  3. As of now it is a certainty one of the lefty's, either Thorpe or Smeltzer heads north with the club in the rotation. Spring training results will determine this. I am both scared and excited to watch our collection of young starters this spring. We've positioned ourselves so that we need at least 2 of them to take a major step forward. Roll the dice gentlemen seems to be the bet. I'll bet on Dobnak and Smeltzer to begin the season. I am actually weirdly confident in Dobnak. I like his chances. His mental game seems superior to Thorpe's right now. Dobs is ready for this. We'll see who else is. Maybe Thorpe is ready as well. I hope so.
  4. 5 years from now this winter's signings may also look unremarkable. ChiSox were deemed to have won the 2014/15 off season. Doesn't mean anything was my point.
  5. 2014/15 winter - 2015 season; David Robertson 46M/4 Melky Cabrera 42M/3 Adam Laroche 25M/2 Zach Duke 15M/3 Grand Total in free agent money spent 138M in the '14/'15 off season.
  6. I just hope we take the very best 13 pitchers north this year and that Brusdar is one of them. Without a big trade ( still hoping for it) it looks like our best shot with this staff, is to duplicate the 2015 Royals and have the very best shut down bullpen in the league.
  7. I recall the White Sox winning the off season very recently? A couple years ago? How did that work out for them?
  8. This might be the plan BBAM? Although I still think we flip some prospects for someone or two in January.
  9. All prospects we don't expect at Target Field by Sept. 2020 should be available in trade. All pitchers named Berrios should be extended this winter. Falvery/Levine cannot/will not begin spring training in Feb with this current collection of starting pitching. In my opinion, more to come.
  10. Bad example. Cousins broke our bank and he isn't clutch in any way. We won't win the big games with him sorry to say.
  11. At this point in the off season it is probably fair to dispute all of these "Twins Have interest" leaks. I'm not buying it. Someone in the media or in the front office, or both is playing games and it's making us look bad. How is it helpful to keep spreading rumors, when in hind site we obviously didn't have interest, or certainly not enough interest to actually sign anyone?
  12. In your very intriguing scenarios link the only ones I like are the Alcantara deal and the Price deal. I don't think the Mets will be reasonable and I don't like bailing on Sano and Buxton. I'm expecting their 2 best years coming up. Your deal above I would do. I don't see the Mets doing it. I'm also in on an Archer trade if they are reasonable, but how do you reverse course on that considering what they gave up? Geez the Pirates blew that deal.
  13. I think/hope it is more about saving the 2 remaining spots on the 40 man for someone of greater impact. I agree we probably have several guys already on the roster who are as good or better, and at league minimum.
  14. In "Revisiting Falvey and Levine era trades" 20% of our current 40 man came in these trades. In my opinion that's some pretty good success. Alcala Chalmers Duran Littell Odorizzi Smeltzer Celestino Raley
  15. Ryne Harper is the only "painless" option to drop at this point. If we have 4 more adds as you hypothesize, we have a trade to come.
  16. This is the frame of reference. I remember being quite underwhelmed over the winter of '90/'91. I think there is a good probability that Berrios/Odo & Pineda stack up very nicely with anyone else's top 3 - and can any of these 3 have a top tier year - No question one or two of them can, maybe all 3? I've heard we can expect some offensive regression - I am not so sure about that. Yes, maybe Garver/Cruz & Arraez can't possibly duplicate last year, but holy cow if we finally get a full season from Buxton & Sano, and Kep takes another step, Rosario improves I think - our offense should not be an issue with this lineup. We could see another rookie breakout by mid-June in Kiriloff or Larnach or another surprise candidate. It is important to remember that getting to the Yankees series, and getting our face smashed in, might have been the necessary "experience" this squad needed to become clutch next time around. The groundwork has been laid, but as in the winter of '90/'91 - it doesn't quite look that way yet.
  17. I like the Marlins Caleb Smith trade idea, and I like a buy low on Teheran. I hope we don't overpay for Ryu - he isn't the healthiest guy out there. In response to mikelink, I think Wallner is our next homegrown star. Hope to see him in 2021.
  18. I've been a fan and follower since the late 60's and I do share DomeDogg's disease. I call it BTFS - battered twins fan syndrome. I will say I agree with Ted on this one, and credit the new front office for bringing me back from the Terry Ryan induced disease that has afflicted me since the mid 90's. I believe the hope I have today isn't misplaced, as in years past. There is a whole new system, and a whole new organization in process today the likes of which I haven't seen in Minnesota. What these guys seem to be building, I can get excited about. But I do understand where comments like DD's come from. They were coming out of my mouth every day up until a year or so ago.
  19. And he will be throwing to Alex Avila - 1 year 4.25M Just up on mlbtraderumors!
  20. I am thankful Odorizzi took the QO from us. Based on this deal he probably could have got a 3/60 ish type of deal in this market. Please go get Michael Pineda now already before our options disappear.
  21. Wheeler is going to get someone to give him a 6th year and it's going to be a 130M+ Cole/Strasburg will be at 6/240M+ I say we wrap up Pineda this afternoon - and start contemplating trades. I hope I am wrong but these starting pitching dollars being thrown around do not sound like Twins financial territory to me.
  22. One of the factors in play in my opinion is how to get Mitch Garver more ab's? I think the way is going to be 30-40 games at 1b. I don't see us signing any infielders, and I hope we don't waste a dime on much other than starting pitching. Gonzalez played an exceptional 3rd I thought last year. We are a better defense with Gonzalez at 3b and Sano at 1b immediately. We have no shortage of options for the infield. Based on my reading so far, it is going to take a motherload to reel in Wheeler - the Blue Jays are hawking Pineda right now - it is go time on quality starting pitching, and if we aren't willing to "overpay" it looks like the Phillies/Chisox/Angels et all will. The market is well in favor of the pitchers this year. It is going to take a potentially unreasonable amount of dollars and years to get one of the top 5.
  23. The jury must still be out or Lewis wouldn't have spent so much time in Arizona playing CF & 3B.
  24. We'll know a little more tonight after the Cron decision. Rumors has the Brewers shopping Hader. 4 years of control, and a $4.6m number next year. Wolfson says we are talking to Boras about Ryu. With everyone apparently wanting Wheeler I am skeptical we offer the most? Maybe we see a blockbuster trade for a #1 starter? Hoping if we don't pony up for Wheeler, that we make a trade. Hate to lose prospects, but this is the off season to go for it. One way or the other, I am hopeful the off season rumblings this winter include 2 stud starters please to go along with resigning Pineda.
