Front Page: The C.J. Cron Conundrum
In My La Z boy replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Looks like we will let him go and I agree. Adding $25M per for Donaldson looks much better by subtracting Cron's $7M. Leaves a Sano/Garver/Gonzalez rotation at 1B. Improves the defense greatly at 3B - gives us another slammer bat. The Donaldson signing and the release of Cron only eats $18M next year. Plenty of money left for pitching. I like this direction. I want to see Garver get 500 ab's next year. He needs another part time position to do that. -
The left side of our infield will be a major point of decision this winter. I am not so sure we break camp in 2020 with Sano at 3B? He isn't a DH candidate. He needs his head in the game, and his DH numbers in the past prove he needs a spot on the diamond. 1B is the only other option. I wonder if we make a bid to sign him for a couple more years, or if we receive major interest in him and look to make a trade? Or if we roll the dice and let him play out his remaining 2 years and see what happens? And if we do that is he at 3B or 1B for 2020/2021? Not exactly sure what I would do? Depends on; 1) Interest in him by other clubs 2) Willingness to reasonably sign extension 3) Readiness of someone else to play 3B In any event the poster is accurate in that the left side of our infield is in the best shape its been for quite a while. Polanco keeps getting better with the arm and glove I believe. Maybe Lewis is the future 3Bman? Maybe the future is next year? Maybe we go for broke and sign Rendon? I'm in on us. I am looking forward to 2020 more than any season I can remember.

Yes and Yes - Players association traditionally sets the rules favoring veterans, at the expense of rookies. We'll see what happens next. Buxton case has no merit. Bryant does. The Twins deserve an extra year I believe. I also believe we either sign him or trade him this winter - making this irrelevant.

Exactly. Seems $7M wouldn't stop us from signing anyone we go after - but if it does, don't do it. Whether prospects Kiriloff or Rooker are ready next spring or not, we can play Gonzalez and Sano at 1B - I'd like to see Cruz there at National league parks. 3B can also be manned by either Gonzalez or Sano depending on other IF options. Arraez seemed good at 3B if needed and maybe Gordon makes the team at 2B. We need pitching the most of anything and I'd throw Cron's $7M at pitching and probably take a pass on resigning him.

In My La Z boy replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If we "sell" on him this winter, we will be selling low. That is never a good idea. The return won't be worth it. -
Your thinking here is logical. Might even work better by implementing the "opener" strategy. I do like the idea of creating certain rhythms so relievers have the same advantage starters have in preparation. I also like the idea of niche relief. Everyone should carry at least 8 relievers next year. So you have 3 specialists who open games, 2 specialists who work middle relief, and 3 late game high leverage specialists who close games.

Moving Eddie Rosario, but Where?
In My La Z boy commented on Ted Schwerzler 's blog entry in Off The Baggy
Good take Ted. The other side of the argument is maybe more powerful. Rosario doesn't bring us a stud by himself. Buxton or Kiriloff probably do. Rosario still has upside - maybe more upside than Buxton or Kiriloff - debatable. Will either Buxton or Kiriloff materialize - I don't know? I suggest Rosario has already materialized with more upside to come. This is why Falvey was hired. To make the right call. I am not convinced Buxton will ever stay healthy and give us a season. No one can know if Kiriloff will fulfill his promise. I say Eddie keeps getting better and I say he is our swagger guy. Every champion needs a swagger guy - an attitude guy - a clubhouse guy, and Eddie is one of the young guns who all came through the system together. There is some karma there I don't want to mess with.- 26 comments

Yes I hope they attempt to sign him - and I would give the QO if necessary. Playoffs this year prove what we all know. You cannot have enough quality pitching. Cannot. Love to see what the Nats did - after Harper. Pitching rules the day in October.

MLB Tonight had a good piece on Berrios - When he is on - he is throwing it high and hard inside to right handers. When he is off - he isn't throwing high inside heat to righty's. Our advantage is also our lefty dominant lineup. NY will be throwing righty's at us all weekend.

Who’s Winning the World Series?
In My La Z boy commented on Ted Schwerzler 's blog entry in Off The Baggy
I'm looking for a rematch of 1991 - and again we win game 7 at home. Berrios goes 10 shutout innings and Gene Larkin knocks in Dan Gladden with the winning run. Then Jose Berrios signs a 60 day contract with the Vikings to assume QB duties, and leads Minnesota to its 2nd championship in 4 months. Either this...or Astros/Dodgers as you predict.- 5 comments

Rocco will play him against NY lefty's for sure. I agree with your assessment here. I like Schoop against the Yanks in the playoffs.

Well said. In a nutshell, I think our FO was blown away by our performance and success this year. I think they would have bet the farm that NEXT year would have been the year, NOT this year. I think it caught them off guard. Trade deadline came, and we still had a decent starting 5, with Pineda looking better and better. Hindsight is always 20/20. I harbor zero blame on our FO. Riverbrian rightly describes the playoffs as a "small sample size on steroids" - in other words, anything can happen. Getting the division, ensuring us of a 5 game series - gives us a chance. All you can ask for is a chance. I like our chances.

Front Page: Week in Review: Closing In
In My La Z boy replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Looks like he is playing again on Wednesday. As cautious as this front office has been this year, I highly doubt anything is wrong with him right now. They wouldn't start him again if something were wrong. I don't get it except to say the front office is giving him every chance to make the post season roster. Therefore I blame his performance entirely on him. No excuses. He's playing, they agree to play him. Results are squarely on him and not his ailment. Also good for Kyle, I have not heard him blame his ailment. Why are we?- 38 replies

Front Page: Twins May Pick a Postseason Specialty
In My La Z boy replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I totally agree with your premise, but if we need 13 pitchers in a 5 game series we're not winning. I like 14 position players and 11 pitchers. Maximum flexibility in a short series is a must I think. I am counting on Rocco going longer with Jose & Odo - and counting on these 2 guys for 7 or 8 innings - and if the series goes 5, these 2 will pitch 3 of the games. I am also counting on Duffy, Rogers & Romo to appear in all 5. Also, I don't see Rocco playing Arraez in LF in a playoff game. 5 man bench of Castro, Cave, Austudillo, Schoop & Wade.- 24 replies

Front Page: The Future Value of Luis Arraez
In My La Z boy replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You are probably remembering the fall of 2014 and Mr. Danny Santana. In my opinion, Arraez is no Danny Santana. But in Sept of '14 I thought Danny was the 2nd coming of Carew too. He came out of nowhere and lit it up for a couple of months. -
Will be interesting to see how this team handles Sept next year when we can only expand to 28 players. We'd be fresh out of team if this were the rule this year. I think the FO would have made different choices this year if that were the rule. Maybe it will be a positive. With very limited call ups you're more likely to see a Kiriloff or Rooker added I think.

Annoying game indeed. Rocco didn't manage the staff last night to win. Leaving Gibson in too long - putting Stewart out for the 6th. I agree he prioritized saving our high leverage guys for Cleveland but we don't have one game to waste in my opinion. Limping to the finish line here. I agree w/Tom - with our line up right now, it is no sure thing we beat up on Chicago Detroit and KC.

What should we do then? Does he still have peak value this winter to another club? Based on your analysis - and I tend to agree, shouldn't we trade him? It would be a shame if this analysis comes true, and we never get the value we've been hoping for, either on the field for us, or in trade for top notch pitching.
-
Guessing we have more courage to trade potential stars for pitching, than the courage to sign someone to a monster contract? I wouldn't be surprised if we make a big trade this winter. I would be shocked if we sign one of these high dollar players. Cole no way - he'll get $30M + per season. We need to move an outfielder of significant value, and a shortstop of significant value to receive back some starting pitching of significant value. We look loaded in the corner outfield and the middle infield heading into the offseason this year.
