Agreed. I don't see it either. Perhaps if he tears it up and is 100% healthy by late June, and we stink. Let's hope not. We signed him to win a world series. Let's bolster the starting 5. I see we missed out on Luzardo. We must be stuck in quick sand with the ownership selling and the payroll situation. Ugh. I think we're playing with the team we've got.

I still have the polaroid's from hanging around the 1st baseline before games of Rod Carew taking infield. I can't imagine the same experience under the Humphrey Dome on a Sunny Day. We have such a glorious field now we need to fill it up. Seems every business has, and believes in "Loss Leaders" to attract customers. They must drop ticket prices, drastically in my opinion. Make it up somewhere else!

Anybody remember knot-hole games? I grew up in the left field bleachers at the old Met 😀 Make the games affordable and kid friendly. My Dad used to drop us off and we'd spend the whole day at the park w/5 bucks eating frosty Malts w/a wooden spoon!

Great comment! He seems to have that intangible quality you can't put your finger on. I think "Hungry" describes it well. No telling how good someone can get if they just want it more than everyone else. I think he's one of those guys! Very high IQ player in my opinion. You want to keep those kind of players!

The team being for sale has to affect Falvey's ability to make large long term financial decisions right now. I'm not sure what history says about how aggressive teams "lame duck" front offices are when ownership has announced their team is for sale? Common sense tells me we're not making any bold, out of the box, long term decisions this off-season as the Pohlad's try to sell the team.

Can The Twins Ship The Sheriff to Sacramento?
In My La Z boy replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Team building requires a consistent approach. Everything is a bet. Dobnak was a bad bet. Perhaps Paddock was also a bad bet? Dumping him now cements the bad bet. It's like folding rather than doubling down. -
Can The Twins Ship The Sheriff to Sacramento?
In My La Z boy replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'd gamble on keeping him. I'm betting he throws well. It's all a bet and I get frustrated with Falvey when he takes a bet, and then changes course before realizing the benefit of the bet he took. Either don't take the bet, or take it and ride it out. Betting on Paddock to earn his $7.5M is good odds in my opinion. -

It's all a gamble friend. At $7.5M and now another year beyond TJ surgery, he's a savvy vet and still throws 98mph - and be consistent dammit. Falvey made this deal and 2025 is the payoff, or not. -

Can The Twins Ship The Sheriff to Sacramento?
In My La Z boy replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'll take the counter-point. I think its a mistake to trade starting pitching, and 2025 is the payoff year for the prior Paddock decisions. He could become a real bargain at $7.5M this year. Or at least that was Falvey's bet a couple years ago. Let's be consistent and stick with him. We never have enough starting pitching by August. Why would we think we will this year? -
PROFAR????
In My La Z boy commented on dxpavelka's blog entry in JOEY GALLO TEAM STRIKEOUT RECORD TRACKER
mlbtraderumors.com at the top of the Twins page - Twins have received calls regarding Carlos Correa. They give a recent Falvey quote and then the writer goes on to say "That's a notable change in tone from last month" Perhaps this is how we afford Profar? -
Then trade one of them. We have to build a team. We've chosen to bet on these guys, like we chose not to bet on Rooker. At some point you need to be consistent and build on what you've been building. If 2025 isn't the year for both Larnach & Wallner to be everyday above average players than we've made a mistake. Just like we should have gone ahead and given Rooker the job and see what happens. Larnach/Wallner and Rooker were all #1 draft picks. I don't want to keep starting over. Draft, Develop and Play. We're making bad choices here.

I appreciate the write up but dispute the premise; "For once, the Twins have enough pitching" A) I do not believe this statement is possible. No one ever has enough pitching. B) Ryan going down in August is a big issue, and we'll see what happens next year. C) After Lopez/Ober/SWR/Ryan, no one has proven anything. Our depth is suspect. D) We finished 2024 very poorly on the mound. And I am in disagreement with the notion we need a RH corner OF. Buxton/Correa are being paid handsomely to be our RH power, and we need to turn Larnach & Wallner loose and let them both play everyday and see what happens in 2025!

"Stuck in a holding pattern until they can find a way to offload some salary" I wonder if we are stuck in a holding pattern until they can find a new owner? How much flexibility does Falvey have? More than he would otherwise, or less? If we are really motivated to "offload some salary" and really have some heavy cash to re-direct, the move has to be Correa. A middle of the road squad in a mid-market cannot afford a $35M DOLLAR player at any position, and we obviously have several other shortstops. I am not advocating this. I just don't know who we want to be? This is currently a poorly constructed roster with 3 players eating 50% of our salary budget.

Are we going to computers calling balls & strikes next year? I thought this was happening? Which eliminates framing. Which i am for.

Exactly this! We have one more year to ride out the Vazquez decision we made 3 years ago. Trying to undo it now opens us up to trouble if Jeffers breaks a leg in April.

Great write up! Shaking up the catching corps doesn't feel wise and doesn't feel like it should be a priority. How many other teams made it through 162 last year with their 2 primary catchers playing every game? Probably not many? I understand Vazquez isn't earning his $10M, but to spend $15M between the 2 and cover 162 decently, not spectacularly, but decently, it just seems as if we have many other areas to be concerned with. The catching corps is currently not broken, and if we move either one, we open ourselves up for trouble in my opinion.

Once Ryan went down last year we were done. Dobnak started, Zebby was rushed, Paddock never helped. We are no where near "loaded" on starting pitching. All due respect to Griffin Jax and if he wants to start, then i want him to start. 2024 Twins proved you can NEVER have enough starting pitching. Never imo.

I wonder what flexibility Falvey feels he has with impending new ownership? I doubt we'll see anything of major consequence, but hope I am wrong. With $94M in guaranteed contracts and an overall budget of $130M, we don't have much room to breathe here. Obviously what we need to the most is for Correa & Buxton to be on the field. The $50M we've got allocated to them has to pay off next year no matter what else we do.
-
How proactive do you think Falvey can be with an ownership transition ahead? I wonder if we will be in a holding pattern until something materializes? We will sell. We are on the low end of what it will cost to join this elite club of 30 owners. $1.5 Billion or so? And Pohlad's have decided they need the cash. This does set us up for Falvey and Rocco to be highly motivated next year with each on their last contract year trying to impress new ownership. I just worry we're stuck on any deals for now?

The Downside of a Lineup Full of J.D. Drews
In My La Z boy replied to Hans Birkeland's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This article reminds me of how dangerous we would be w/Buxton playing 160 games a year batting lead-off. It also reminded me of when we acquired Danny Gladden in '87, and it reminds me of the early 2000's Piranha's teams. I do miss having an identity. We are like a person with an identity crisis. Who are we, and who do we want to be? I'd like to be the Piranha's again with a hint of Bomba squad mixed in. New ownership will definitely infuse some hope....I hope. No doubt some new owner Billionaire will want to have some fun and try and win with his new toy....I hope.- 28 replies
